Hi, divi here. It's been so long since I've posted on The Joint! I actually didn't realize it moved over to DoA. Finally found it again last night thanks to Sabs. I started my doll in 2010, then left her for awhile, picked up again this fall. She's almost done now! I'm casting her myself. It's not as hard as I thought it would be! So here are pics. She's still rough here.
Wow, she looks fantastic! I looked at your pictures at first and my very first thought was, "Wait, where's the pictures of the prototype? All I see is a company doll for comparison... oh WAIT!" Your girl is so smooth and graceful! I love the details of her body. She's so graceful! Is she resin cast already, or is that something else?
Hi HystericalParoxysm, I had to type out your username because it cracks me up! Thank you SO much for your nice compliments!!! I needed that! This work is so isolating... Yes, this body is already resin cast. I've just been finessing and re-casting her for months. I did the first proto in Sculpey, which was a bad decision. It was so hard to smooth. So I went to resin early on, and since then it's been basically a carving/sanding project. The good thing is that it gave me lots of mold-making and casting practice. I'm going to be selling her as a full doll later this month. So I'm running a race! Also I'm doing IDEX mid-April. **shake** **shiver**
Yes, "Ack!" is the operative word around here right now! I am definitely in the home stretch... working on final molds. My helper is coming down on the 22nd -- he is a stringing expert and is going to string 20 dolls for me. Hoping to have finished doll pics right around then. So it's a race to the finish line! I'm going to have to do faceups really fast!
She's beautiful! I really like her back/shoulder blades~ If you don't mind me asking...with casting yourself, what type of resin do you use and where do you get it? Do you use a pressure pot? Have you found that working in resin is easier than clay for you? I imagine it would give me some peace of mind to know that if I messed up carving something that I could just cast another piece and start over with it. XD;
