my 1/4 sized doll, olivia

Sep 16, 2016

    1. i have always wished to have a BJD, but never had the money to buy one. and so, i decided to make my own!
she is a character of mine, from a story i have been writing for a very long time. her name is olivia rappucini. she is half haitian (or maybe egyptian? i can't decide!) a quarter italian, a quarter japanese. teehee. she has a long story.

here is my "blueprint" for the doll. i drew it like.. ten years ago, or more. haw haw.

and this is the head. i sculpted it long before i even had the clay to make the rest of her... she sat on my laptop, staring at me, for weeks.

i took this photo today... aaa the horrors of not having a camera phone! but this is what i am working on now. nearly complete!

    2. here are some more pictures for you...

the hands, and the big lump of clay i have left to work with (i have to finish the hands and make feet! maybe TWO pairs of feet!)
      View attachment 814

i made these feet just because i was impatient and wanted her to be done. XD but i made them before i bought her marvelous shoes, and so. they didn't fit. i cut them to bits with my dremel. the feet need to be so thin!

i've made all of her body, and so, i have made her two dresses. i am impatient, i tell you! but i love her dresses. hreeee.

AND SO that is the doll i am working on right now.
the only things i have not made for her have been her eyes and her shoes. and the actual hair i used to make her wig, of course. lalala. i love working on this thing. toot!

    4. It's nice to see a new project pop up around here.
What kind of clay are you working with?

    5. yayyy
i'm using fimo, because i can get such nice colours by mixing the standard colours together. chocolate, light flesh, translucent, and white. and i am using plain old aluminum wire inserted into her feet and hands, to hold the elastic. it seems to be holding well!
i've read about using sculpey, but i have had horrid experience with sculpey (i made a series of little sculptures with it, and they broke to bits very easily. >:C ) and as you can see in the background of the head pictures, i have sculpted some heads out of la doll... i LOVE la doll, but again, i have troubles with how fragile it is. i wanted to actually be able to "play" with this doll.
but i do hope to eventually cast her in resin... after some more work on her surface and joints and such.

    6. hahaha... i just want to talk about my doll! FOREVER AND EVER.
her is her torso now.. i finished her smelly hands yesterday. i'm going to try again with the hands, since these are not beautiful like i want them to be, but these will do for now.

i know that there is so much wrong with this head, but i am pretty pleased with it. I LIKE IT AAAAA

and then will come the sanding.

    8. Don't worry about minor imperfections. As long as you are happy with her and are having fun in the process, that is all that counts. Especially if this is your first doll. It takes practice to get things to really turn out the way we intend them to. :)
And I think you are making good progress.

    9. hreee. oh i keep finding things about her that i would rather do over, but fimo is expensive! and i have learned to be ecstatic over what i have done so far. :D :D :D

and this is my first larger doll, but i have made smaller dolls before, like this one (never finished her arms though, because i get bored easily...)

as you can see, the joints are pretty bad, and i would change a lot on her were i to finish her... BUT.
i really love making dolls just for fun, so yay.

and yayyy thank you for the encouragement. ;D

    10. AND STILL i work on olivia. but of course.

so! all parts finally sculpted.. blee. now just for some sanding and sealing.

i'm finally satisfied with these hands. they could be better, but... these are nice?
      View attachment 827

aaaaand her feet. they are a bit messy, but i can fix some of that with sanding and shaving. i hope. :X

    11. oh man, i thought i posted pictures of her here.. OH WELL.

but anyway, i've been working on her a bit more. her neck was kind of broken-looking, so i fixed the joint in her head, and refined the ball on her neck. so now she can look up! hooray! and i think i destroyed her pelvis. i could work on it with the dremel, but i might just leave it alone.

i'm disappointed in her joints, as she cannot stand, and it takes a trick to make her sit upright... but at least she can sit upright, and pose her arms??
and i've still yet to sand her properly, and paint her face, and seal her... hehe. so much work to do. but it is fun, and i love her, so.
(and i just love her faaaace aaaa)

    12. Wow, it's great that you got a whole body done! Maybe once her joints are sanded and sueded, she'll be able to stand! ^_^

    13. oh yeahhhhhhh i forgot about sueding. XD i even have several packs of moleskin that i bought forever ago.
but i am proud of herrr even if there are things wrong. :D i can just keep working on her!

    14. bahaha i keep working on her
and now she looks good and ridiculous yayyy

      [IMG] [IMG]

(i need to watch some tutorials on how to do a proper faceup... ah well.)
i also need to make her yet another pair of hands, as these have broken a bit as the wires in the fingers are bending.

    15. That's quite an intense expression. :XD
With the tiny painted lips it makes it look like she is sucking her cheeks in, where Before she had more of a gentle smile.

She sure has some spark, though. And it looks like you are having a lot of fun with her! :)

    16. ahaha, i need to wipe her face clean and try again. with different paints, i think. bahhh. if only i could use real makeup, then i could get the effects i wanted. XD
but yes, i am having tons of of fun with her. :D

    17. Whoa, bright wig!

The outfit and make up make her look like she's having a lot of fun. She's certainly come to life with some colour on her!

    18. i loooove this wig, even though it is a bit messy. (it is my first.) i still need to style it, with some boiling water and mousse. the green is not quite that bright irl, but i messed with the contrast. :P
yay i am glad she looks fun-filled. XD she is a fun character.
