Muscular female dolls- who wants one?

Jul 27, 2015

1. Pardon if this has been specifically done/asked before, but I didn't find anything quite like it in my search. I am frustrated by the lack of strong female bodies on the market for my dolls, many of whom are superheros. I know some companies are looking into it, some DoAers have petitioned Iplehouse, Impldoll, Mirodoll, and there was a huge disappointment with the Nobility Doll muscular body when that was group ordered back in... shoot... was that 2012? Earlier?

I would love a show of hands of people who would say, "Yes, if you offered a well-engineered and aesthetically pleasing muscular body for the ladies, I would be delighted to drop my hard-earned money on her!"

Not hypothetically, not where can I get one of these, but 'Please companies, listen, we want this. Yes, we really do.' Whether you want one NOW (wouldn't that be awesome!), or in the future or just think you MIGHT want the option, please let's make our desires known. If that's OK with the board. I hope I am not overstepping boundaries, but I am really interested in what the demand actually is for this product.

Or it is just me?

----------------------

I tried to put up a poll, but it seems I was timed out. So here are some options for answers if you'd just like to post a number and not leave a longer reply:

Would you buy a muscular female doll body?

1. Yes, I want one. I need her now. Gimme. Please and thank you.

2. Yes, I have future plans for a girl like that.

3. Not right now, but maybe some day.

4. Not personally, but I think the option should be available to all.

5. No, that's silly! Muscles are for boys.

• x 4
2. 1- Yes, please! I would buy muscular female bodies in both short and tall sizes!!

• x 1
3. Yes I want one, and I intend to preforder Byrna from Shelma in september.
i have read Twigling is considering making one too... and april story or classy doll doesn't have a female toned body with abs?

4. Count me in among #3! I have no immediate plans, but if a body like that was available ... oooh yummeh. I don't think I could resist even if I tried. :XD:

5. Well, if I liked it and if it came in the right resin colour so that I could use it for one of my "surplus" heads - sure, why not? I'm sure Aidan would look great as muscular amazon/warrioress! XD

6. Anwer 3, and I'd like to add, it would be important for me to be able to choose the boost size. I'd prefer smaller breasts, so different options would be essential.

• x 1
7. YES! I'd forgotten about that ... too big melons on that girl would be the deal breaker for me. Very muscular girls have less body fat, so the boobs are usually smaller (and would need to be for me to like the body).

• x 2
8. I think Granado makes a bony, slightly muscly female body (but it may be being phased out?) But I'm so in the market for an athletic, toned female body!

9. I'm probably a 3 right now, but for sure the option should be available. I personally love muscular/athletic/well toned women, and think it would be wonderful for doll companies to have more diversity in female bodies like with male bodies.

10. Yes I want one VERY MUCH. I have specifc plans for a doll based off of my Nord warrior woman Skyrim character. I have been planning on making her an Iplehouse Bibiane because the face is exactly perfect, but the idea of her having a soft curvy body when she runs around in heavy armor in freezing weather swinging a warhammer has always annoyed the hell out of me. I would LOVE it beyond measure if Iplehouse specifically would make a female superhero-type woman body so I could have my Bibiane head on a body that suits the character.
Also agree with the above comments that I would want that body to NOT come with the huge ginormous boobs. Ideally the same bust size choices currently available on Iplehouse women's bodies would also be available on the superhero-type body.

11. 3. Not right now, but some day.

If It could fit a Impldoll Star head too, it would be great (I'm thinking Karena special head). So wide shoulders and smallish breasts. Muscular but not built like a brick wall.

12. I'm currently in the 2-3 range, because I'm not in a position to jump into buying a new body, but if I had the money, that'd be a different issue! :chomp:

Either way, I do wish to own one in the future, because I would just LOVE IT if there were more muscular female bodies. The lovely anatomical details are great on muscular male dolls, but I prefer female dolls and get kind of disappointed when the detail on them is focused on just boobs and bellybuttons x'D.

It'd be really cool if there was even a range of them, because athletic females' muscle builds look different. For instance, a gymnast's body looks different than a swimmer's body due to focus on different muscle groups and aspects of the body. The level of definition varies with bodyfat, which also differs with the athlete's profession; a weightlifter looks MUCH different than a bodybuilder, as one is for lifting the most weight and the other is about working off the most bodyfat and achieving the most muscle definition. I think of the photoshoot Howard Schatz did with professional and olympic woman athletes http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...os-women-professional-athletes_n_4297902.html. You can see a HUGE variation of bodytypes for what it means to be 'muscular and athletic'. Some of the variance is individual, but the variance in muscle definition is probably worth noting.

I'm not sure if I'd be into a body-builder doll body, as I'm more into a body made for function rather than for looks. An MMA/boxer's body would probably be the type of muscular body I most prefer, as female fighters are AWESOOOME, followed by something sleek and lithe like a swimmer's body, which may be more versatile in it's use.

13. I'm going with 4 here, as I like my girls either thin or curvy and am not at all interested in owning a muscular girl, but I do think the option should be there for those who would like one! Angel of Dream girls have some abs, and even that is too much for me personally, though I think they look good.

14. Wow, thanks for the link, BioniCandy!

15. Definitely 1. I have a strong lady with beefy arms who needs to be shelled. Preferably 42cm and under, but I can dream.

• x 1
16. Awesome link, Bionicandy! Very big eye-opener!

I agree with you all about different heights and chest sizes. I would want the option for large breasts and smaller for the sake of variety and individuality. I forgot to mention those items, thanks for adding them!

SKIMO, thanks for the info on Birna from Sheema, I looked her up and she is AMAZing! I need to find more info on her. She has great abs!

I had also heard Twigling wanted to make one which isn't a huge leap for her- her girls already have wonderfully muscled legs. I hope we get lots of companies offering girls with muscles, so we get lots of variety, height, and aesthetic differences!

Please keep raising your hands and voices! This is great to know and share!

17. I'd love to have an athletic lady. IOS has been working on a female that may fit the bill. I'm looking forward to it's release.
I think it would be fun to create an "action" figure type character that has a little bit of a six pack, slight biceps, defined thighs and modest breasts. I'd be about a 3 on the poll.

18. 4--definitely would love the option available for those who want it.

I can't rule out someday wanting a muscular female body someday, but right now the one girl I have is a soldier (admittedly not muscular, but she's a space opera character) so if I get another girl, it's going to be something super-femme for variety. :) (My other three are boys.)

19. 4 - - I would not want this, but if there is enough demand, which seems is the case, it would be nice for those who would want this body type to have the option.

20. #4 I like my female dolls to look like average teenage or young adult girls. I don't like overly muscular male dolls either. But of course the option should be available for anyone who wants it.

21. Yah, optional breast size - small, medium, large - would be awesome! Also, well-toned but not "She-Hulk". Ideally, something that would work with my Volks Garnet head - muscular but still feminine enough not to make her look like a boy (which is already difficult enough with that head. ;) ) ...

22. I'm between the 1 and 2 range-- I've had an Oc that's more on the toned/muscular side that I would love to get in doll form! I also agree with the others; muscular but still feminine and different breast options would be nice! :)

23. I think I'd put myself between 3 and 4; I have no real active plans for any muscular ladies, but having the option available would be quite nice, and I'd love to see it for others. (I'm blanking on both the doll's and owner's names, but the muscular MNF lady mod who's around here is stunning.) Who knows, maybe having the option available in multiple sizes would inspire me!

24. That's Rosslyn's Moira. ;)

25. Thank you, Jany! I knew it started with an M! :D

26. I definitely want one - or several. I second the viewpoint that a large bust should not be mandatory. Active women generally wear compression bras. Female bjd heads need more character and maturity. Of course, this doesn't fit in with the "Asian aesthetic" of egg-shaped, girlish faces. Let's have some freakin' cheekbones and jawlines! Really, it shouldn't be hard to modify a male body to have smaller waist, possibly narrower shoulders, a less "stringy" neck/collarbone area, and smaller feet.

27. Me me me! i'm very interested! ^_^ I have tried to ask Iplehouse with others, but they don't reply anything so I guess they are not interested. But do not forget Immortality of Soul!!! They are making a bit muscular female body. They said this is going to be the same size range as Iplehouse girls, so I'm looking forward to see more! Immortality of Soul has ok blushed match to Iplehouse and Spiritdoll for sure, I have tested so I'm going to have a Iple + IOS hybrid if the final product look good and is suitable. :D https://www.facebook.com/dollios/ph...0.1438097146./546730285439259/?type=3&theater

28. 100% in the #1 category. As someone who is into fitness as a career, I would love to see a more muscular female body for my dolls. I don't really care what size chest it has as girls that workout have as varied a size as all other girls, and a lot of the companies that have been mentioned offer multiple size chests :)

29. I would buy one. I wanted a muscular female SD character and the Nobility Custom order was a fiasco, in spite of the great efforts of the lovely people organizing it.

Moira is my attempt to give myself an MSD muscle girl, and she took some serious work.

Edit:
:blush
Aw thank you!

Moira says hi.

30. Although I have muscular female characters that I enjoy, to be honest I would not purchase one in doll form. That's not to say that I don't think they should make one (or more for variety and options), as I do think it would be wonderful for others to have this choice. But I personally like my dolls with a softer, "meatier" look (if such a thing really exists for BJDs), and I'd rather focus my efforts on getting some girls produced with smaller breast sizes and more height options.

31. I'm definitely a no.4 on this issue. I personally am not in need of one, but I think they should be available to people who do want one. Unfortunately, as bjd body's are a sort of 'glorified' version of real person's body's, and what humans want to look like. As not many women want to be very muscular, and men don't particularly find very muscular women attractive. Maybe company's think nobody wants them. Though, I think you're totally right in trying to make this a poll, because they need to know what you want in the end. Then they can make it, and please everyone :)

32. I'm gonna go with 4. I like my girls curvy, delicate and non muscular but I most certainly think the option should be there for those who want it. The more variety the better! And if it was well made and nice looking, who knows, maybe someday I'd want one too. I agree with those who mentioned the breast size too, super huge boobs on a muscular lady just doesn't work for me. A body can be beautiful and feminine without looking like someone put two baloons under the skin.

33. You better believe I would!

One of my female characters would actually be more actively shelled if she could have a more muscular body because she is very athletic, and he line of work is extremely physically demanding.

I hope maybe Iplehouse will decide to make a muscular female body. I know they could do it and make it the most stunning thing on the market.

34. I would absolutely love that, so I'm obviously going with 1.
Since I'm playing soccer in my spare time and know what it's like to not look delicate or 'slim' at all, I'd be so so excited if a few or even just one company decided to offer more muscular female bodies! I would definitely craft myself a soccer girl. :')

So I guess Im voting for an athletic, 'muscular' body, because too many muscles or body building isnt what I'm looking for tbh.. I'd just like a more realistic span of options for female bodies; not every woman looks the same, so why should all my dolls represent delicacy. I like sportsy bodies, so of course I'd like to get it doll-sized.

35. If there was one to buy, I'd be first in line for it!

36. Could someone tell me why the group order of muscle body was a fiasco years ago? I know the body, I think it looks quite nice but it's so short? Short girls are nice, but most of my females are 65cm so shorter but bulkier girl would look more cute than powerful strongwoman :D

37. I'm totally 1-4... or... well, I'd be 3 then! (I'm indecisive, what can I say? ) I'm the kind of person that is inspired to make a character by the actual sculpt/doll, instead of creating a character then shelling them as a doll, because, well I'm weird. But actually seeing a muscular female body sculpt for sale would totally make me want to create a character to base around it. :D Not to mention the overall aesthetic would be something I'd be into, since it's super neat to see unique and new BJD body types.

38. Oh it was tall enough, around 61 or so I think, but everything else, from ordering to shipping to the horrific lack of anything like quality... it was bad.
Here's my blog post about it at the time.

39. Wow.. that was quite a horrible story :( A person in Finnish community sold this body many years ago and I was tempted to buy it but I just can't take any shorter than 65cm so if there's a company which could make one, I'm totally out if the body is smaller than 64cm, just my character problems, they're already all Iplehouse EIDs so... :(

But a body like this would be awesome in general, in any size!

40. I am all for more variety of any kind in body types. I feel like the hobby went from having a lot of smooth, lythe almost elven boy bodies to nothing but huge muscle men with 8-packs while the girls went from being petite and curvy to huge and curvier. There really isn't any variation in between or entirely different unless you want those same bodies with hooves or wings. When I have seen some companies doing WIPs of muscular girl bodies, all of the muscle detail has been scaled back or lost in the casting process. I am surely seeing some interesting innovations in body styling for single artist studios making mini girls, but not much for the larger girls.

At the same time, if a sculptor (either as a solo sculptor or working for a doll brand) isn't personally invested or interested in creating a muscular female body type but makes one anyway, we'd probably see similar bad results to the Nobility doll. All sculpts start from a point of interest or inspiration on the part of the sculptor, it's just the nature of this hobby, so I don't think general fan demand will make it happen. I think sending words of encouragement to the sculptors who have already leaned in that direction would go a lot further towards getting this type made. I'd think sending some fan mail to IOS, Dollstown, Grenado, Iplehouse and the like to let them know how much you've liked where they have headed with their body sculpts and that you hope they will consider taking it further with their girls.

41. YAAAAS I would LOVE female muscular bodies!! I would love to see a slim/lithe muscular body as well as a Big Buff Cheeto Puff body available for female dolls!

42. They would be great! I would be game if they made one! Especially for something like an Iplehouse EID woman.

43. Actually, I think I remember seeing a doll artist who did a muscular female body...she's on dA, the name is just escaping me at the moment...

44. If I had the money I'd slot right in at #1, all the way! I have quite a few muscular women I'd love to shell. I'm such a huge fan of Dana Linn Bailey, a body with her proportions would be awesome. I also agree with koukles, a female body with the proportions of Jasper from Steven Universe would be amazing as well. c :

45. YES!!!!! Dana is incrEEEEEEEdible!! (I WANT her hair!) And I had to look up Jasper, but she reminds me scary amounts of Image's Glory relaunch:
http://i.usatoday.net/life/_photos/...lassic-heroine-with-Glory-T0RUL2B-x-large.jpg
Looks like Jasper w/o the pink face makeup.

YES! I want BOTH!!!

And maybe a third 'toned but not-so-muscular' version, too. Variety! WHEEEE!!!

46. Dana is %100 percent life goals. XD Oh, the character in your link looks pretty awesome. I think I'll have to check that comic out! It's called Glory, right?

A variety of different bodies would be super nice. Most of my characters I want to shell are muscular but some are bigger than others.

47. Yes, Glory by Image comics- she was a Rob Leifeld brainchild waaaay back when Image ruled the world (of comics). This new big one is a HUGE (pun intended) revamp pf the old massively-chested but waspish waisted Amazon princess. (His answer to Wonder Woman.) Maybe the change was influenced by Jaspar, I don't know, but they look eerily similar. Not sure the Glory/Jasper aesthetic would suit many at all, but I'd MAKE a character to fit her!

48. #4.

Personally, I like my girls with a sturdy looking body but not muscular if that makes sense. I don't find women with muscles attractive AT ALL :/ But hey, if you like that, by all means, go ahead!

49. I feel like I saw this somewhere, but there was a discussion of doughy men also included in the thread? I dunno. But yes. Absolutely, I would buy a muscular lady. Please also make her tall. Or hell, make her in a range of heights, but I would personally buy a tall muscular lady body in a heartbeat.

50. Yes! You're right! I separated the 2 so companies could see the market for muscular girls as some are on the verge of making them and just need a nudge to prove it'd be worth it. Thanks for adding your voice!

51. Absolutely! Incidentally, I'd also love to see some doughier boys (like a Shatner body or even a little heavier), but that's for another thread. > v> Which... exists yet??

52. *LOL* *whispers* I don't think it does! I know it's in demand, softer bodies, and you could start a thread then send an email to Impl/Miro/yourfavecompanyhere and request w/proof of interest!

53. I would love to see a muscular female body, some plump ones as well.

54. I've seen a few plump MSD sized bodies, like Freakstyle's Salome, but I would like an SD size as well. Maybe a good topic for a separate thread! Companies need to see what we want to see.

55. Oh yes, I love <3 the Salome sculpt! I think Cerise dolls have an interesting silhouette too.

Sent from my LG-P769 using Tapatalk

56. I would love a well engineered, muscular female body! I'm especially interested on one with a high level of muscle definition in abs, arms, and legs for one of my characters.

57. I really want a strong 58cm girl!
but I want one more on the lean muscles side. I know some bodybuilders aim to be really big, but that's not a look I personally like. if you google "Espn body issue" there's a lot of good exemples.

58. #3 Not right now but someday. I find strong women very attractive so oneday I'd like to have doll character with some muscle. Tough I prefer MSD size so it would have to be under 50cm.

59. I guess I am at a position between 1 and 3. I had no previous interest or idea until I read this thread, now I am at the "I would so buy that!" position. I normally avoid buying girls, but the idea of a muscular one intrigues me. A lot.

60. I legit want to make a Jasper doll
