Who is opening a new project thread? It's me! Well, welcome on my fourth project thread! One day I will learn to work on my dolls one per one... The Soudoll Shiva for arms in grey skin was my grail doll from a very long time. I wanted to buy her back in 2010 but I didn't have the money for her... Then I discovered that she was rereleased in brown skin in 2013. I like tan even better than grey, but she was already sold out. Finally I had the chance to catch a Shiva four arms in brown skin in late 2014! But grabbing a grail doll was not enough difficult for me Sadly I didn't bound with the Shiva head. I returned lurking the marketplace in order to find an Elfdoll Euna head in replacement of the Shiva head. I was lucky a second time! Now I own a nice Elfdoll Euna Homme skin on a Souldoll Shiva four arms body. I want to turn her into a six arms wild lady. Hope I will have enough guts to make this mod! What I'd like to do: Mods To Do: add two arms on the body (done by @pandalilou in 2019) Aesthetics To Do: faceup (finished on 11/02/2016) tattoos (finished during July 2022) bust blush (finished during summer 2022) manicure (6 hands! Eek! - finished on 07/28/2022 ) pedicure (finished during summer 2022) Crafting To Do: wig (finished on 11/28/2016) dragon skull helmet (finished on 06/28/2019) sewing/crafting an outfit (finished on 08/05/2022) five small skulls for her belt adornments (4/5 finished on 07/17/2022) For the moment I only work on the wig. It is nearly finished. I only need to add adornment on the dreadlocks! BTW, does someone remember my failed dying attempt for my disfigured cyberpunk girl? This try: by Follow-the-Wind It was a fail for my cyberpunk girl but it gives me an idea for my Multi-arms Lady. I useed those fibers in order to make brown and red dreadlocks. I only needed to put red dye on the orange part or the fibers to get the right red shade I wanted. Currently the wig looks like this: by Follow-the-Wind I want to add red threads on the top of the dreadlocks. Maybe some bead too but I don't know in which color...
@Black Widow Thank you very much! A little update! I begin the face-up yesterday. by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr Explanations for the first step (sorry for my bad english): Toothbrush mix (with proportions): 1x blue + 1x burnt sienna+ 2x carline+ a lot of water 2x carmine + 2x scarlet + a lot of water 1x raw umber + a lot of water I also use some transparent white acrylic ink + white acrylic on the forehead. I begin with applying with a toothbrush all the dilued ink mix on the low part of the head (meaning under the eyes). I put many layers on the cheekbones with the red mix and the violet mix. Then I use pastels above the chin and around the nose: violet, red-brown, brown and a little of flesh for a nice shading. Under the eyes I make a gradation from black, violet + brown to red. I do slightly the same on the eyelid. On the lips I make a first try from black on the external corner to red-brown in the middle. But I dislike the effect so I remove it with an eraser and redo it from pink at the corner to red-brown + a little of brown in the middle. Now I use the transparent white ink. I apply it with a toothbrush on the forehead and a little under the eyes. I wipe the unwanted spot from the cheeks. Once it is dry, I apply white acrylic with a cotton bud on the forehead. I dilute it above the eyes but I use it pure on top of the forehead. I wait for this first layer to dry, then I apply a second one, this time helping me with my fingers. I wait at least 10 minutes before applying a layer of tamiya on this head.
It looks fantastic!! What a great stippled effect on the face. I love it. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
@Black Widow Thank you! Next step for the face-up: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr For this second step, I begin with the lips. I slightly paint them with watercolors. I use mostly red and ochre but some violet and brown too. On top of the watercolors I paint thin ribs with the three color mix I previously made for the skin effect (those I applied with a toothbrush). At the end I add white ribs in transparent white (acrylic ink). The heart of the mouth is darker than the corner : lot of dark brown inside the mouth. I enhance the mouth with a white line around it (water-soluble pencil). Nostril corner: violet, red-brown, pink pastels. Under the nose: red-brown and pink pastels with a little of flesh on the nose. Above the chin: violet, brown and red-brown pastels. For the eyes, I paint the inside with the pink-redish mix I made for the skin effect. I add violet, brown, red-brown and pink around the eyes. I put a little of brown and violet (watercolor) inside the eyelid wrinkle. I apply violet pastel with a brush on top of it. I add some brown at the external side and some pink near the nose. Under the eyebrow arch I put violet and brown pastels again. With my wonder-toothbrush I put some layers of red mix and brown mix on the cheekbone. I wipe the unwanted spots before it dries. I draw dark rings under the eyes with my white water-soluble pencil. I add white water color and violet + brown lines in my acrylic ink mix. Finally I apply white acrylic with a cotton bud on the forehead, on the nose, some under the eyes and on the chin. Once it is dry, I put a new layer of tamiya on the head.
She is so beautiful. You have added so many details and layers of color as you have described, yet they are subtle and very well blended. I think it's amazing what you are doing. Everything is coming together so well. Keep sharing!!
@Black Widow Thank you so much for your kind comments! I always use a lot of colors. I like the way they are melting on a doll face. Don't worry, I'm going to keep sharing! @Plucifer Thank you! I keep working on my Eun-a face-up : by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr Here are the explanations for this third step! I add more white ribs in acrylic ink on the lips. I paint two little teeth inside the mouth. I darken the inside of the mouth around the teeth with brown acrylic ink. I add black, violet, brown, red-brown and pink pastels around the eyes. I put violet, brown, red-brown and flesh pastels above the chin. At the corner of the mouth and near the nostrils I add blue pastel (dilute with white pastel). Under the eyebrow arch I put violet and brown pastels again. I apply some more white acrylic with a cotton bud under the eyes and on the chin. Then I work on the dark rings. I repaint the lines with the violet and the brown toothbrush mix. I enhance them with white acrylic inks. I paint the eyebrow in white acrylic ink and white acrylic paint. I add some light violet hairs in the lower part if the eyebrows. After that, I paint the eyelashes in sepia and raw umber acylic ink (partialy dilute with water). I finish this step by adding two layers of spots with the toothbrush. I use the red mix for the cheekbone and the violet mix for the area under the eyebrows arch. I let it dry. Then I put a new layer of tamiya. In the meantime I'm working on her wig adornment, but it's very slow: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr Thank you for viewing
She is absolutely stunning. I was trying to imagine the face with the wig on, then today you had them both together. She is going to be fabulous when she is done. Continuez le bon effort, elle est magnifique!!
Her faceup is amazing! I love the scattered texture you've got going on, and the amount of detailing to it is so neat...I found myself staring at it for some time. I can't wait to see how her wig turns out too because you have a great start.
@Black Widow Merci beaucoup! I add some white acrylic paint on the top of the wig. I hope it helps making the face-up and the wig looking greats together! @kaien Thanks a lot! The wig is still unfinished. I need to work more on it! I finished my girl's face-up yesterday. Or the day before, I don't remember: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr As before, the explanations: I do only little things for this last step. I add white lines on the cheeks : I draw them with a white pencil, then I paint them in white watercolor. When I'm happy with the whole finish I repaint the line in acrylic paint. I also add details on the forehead. I slightly paint wrinkles in water colors (violet and some brown-ochre). I enhance them with both white acrylic ink and acrylic paint. I put the last layer of tamiya on top of it. For the finishing touch I paint the lips and the inside of the eyes with gloss varnish.
I like the red eyes. They work really well with the other colors in the face-up (and they will work well with the wig too). Are you working on the arms next? I am excited to see her each time you post an update.
Oh wow, I'm so impressed with your face up! It looks really amazing and I can't wait to see the whole doll when finished.
That face up is most excellent! As for the six arm mod, I've done it with my grey shiva! I used a large eye beveler for my dremel to smooth out the new arm cavities, and one of my engraving bits to slowly dig the new sockets out and shape them. It's nerve wracking, but it's totally doable, you just have to make sure you have plenty of room for those sockets, and enough resin around everything to keep her torso nice and strong!
Thank you for your enthusiasm! No I still haven't begin the arms mod. I'm so afraid of making a big mistake! Thank you very much! Thank you for your kind comment! And thank you so much for your advise! Knowing someone already did it before me (and succeed at it) helps me feel a little more comfortable! For the moment I've begun her Helmet. It's supposed to be a Dragon (or monster skull). Currently it's more a dragon than a random monster... And I finished her wig's adornment! by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The dragon skull is made of Ladoll. I will add some woodform (a wood paste). I don't know if I'm going to make the teeth in woodformo or in an epoxy paste. Both have their drawback : the first is breakable but the second will be a pain in the *** when I will need to glue it on the skull. The horns will be made of epoxy or of fimo. I dislike fimo so it will be more probably in epoxy. And for the frill I'm thinking of paper or fabric. Something very light. Anyway, I have many hours of modeling in front of me!
Her faceup is so beautiful! I can't wait to see more updates -- also your sketches are absolutely gorgeous and leave me so excited!
Oh my! Already more than two years without an update! Thank you! Thanks! I hope you are patient, if I update this thread once every three years... Thank you! Thank you very much! I work again on this girl. Still have so much to do! Thank you! Thank you! I finally did the teeth in an epoxy paste, because I feared wood paste would has been to breakable. Thank you very much! Thak you! I like a lot the color of her wig, even if it wasn't what I expected when I first work on it. ( I was planning blue-green locks, not deep red XD ) Thank you! Thank you very much! Thank you! I wish I would be better in sewing. It's one thing I'm not really good at. Thank you! I hope I will finished it one day ******* Dragon skull helmet - still in progress I worked a little on this skull back in 2017 but I didn't finished the modelling and I let this girl in her box for the next two years. I don't really know why, I just wasn't motivated anymore. I may have done the teeth in 2018 (I'm not sure) and I let it unfinished for a long time. But four days ago, I dedided to work again on her dragon skull - it was waiting on my desk all the time. I was modelling masks for other dolls (hannya, tengu and kitsune masks) when my eyes fall on the dragon skull and I convinced myself to continue it. The teeth are made of an epoxy paste, the horns/veins are made in milliput. I think I will made the frill in fabric, and sew it to the veins after I'll paint the skull.
@ronnie92 Yeah that's right! Hopefully, in fact, because I let this girl aside for a very long time ^^' ******* Dragon skull helmet - painting in progress I've paint the skull, but I'm not totally happy with it. What do you think about it? Does it need a repaint?
I like the helmet! you could do a dark paint wash over top. It would make it look aged and worn, it would also make it 'feel' darker if that's what your going for.
I have to tell you, dude, this is one hell of a project and by far one of the coolest faceups I have seen. Using the toothbrush for that texture was an inspiring idea. But that MASK. Duuuude. I love love LOVE it. Did you just use Ladoll for the frill bones, too? My only painting suggestion would be maybe use a lighter touch/a wash like somebody else said...but honestly it is beautiful as is. Amazing work!
The paint wash was such a good idea! Thank you so much! Thanks ^^ Thank you! No I didn't use Ldoll for the frill bones, I use milliput. I did the wash and it was the perfect touch for this mask painting. *** After a dark paint wash like suggest by @VelaRen , the painting is done! Now I'm happy with it! I wonder if I will add the frill or not… maybe I must give it a try.
Man!!! Look at that, how awesome. Yeah, that wash was just what it needed. I'd be interested in seeing it with the frill, I imagine it making the whole thing a little more crown-like--but, that said, it looks bad ass without it! What sorts of references did you use when designing the dragon skull? Also, how long have you been modeling? You must have lots of practice!
@Alchemicat Thank you! Well, I can't tell how many hours I worked on it. I worked on it from time to time during three years. I've absolutely no idea how long I've been modeling ^^' I use dinosaur skull pictures as reference, along with other animals skull. I don't have so much practice, I do Nô masks from time to time (Hannya, kitsune and tengu) but this was the first time I tried something different!
Man, that's awesome. Excellent work! Yeah, I noticed in the course of reading the thread how long you've been working on this doll...glad to see you picked her back up, and I'm sure she is, too! It's so satisfying to see a project come together over such a long time, well done!
It's so cool that you've picked up from where you've left off. I'd never thought of trying to bleach a wig would have thought it would melt or get destroyed but the color you drew out of the wig is amazing and makes it look like real hair wowow!
@Alchemicat Thank you @spittake Thank you! But the hair are made of goat, it's not synthetic hair. That's why I could bleach it!
Your faceup work is truly breathtaking. All the little layers and colored details the add up to a doll that looks more than human. Incredible work.
Thank you very much! ***** Dragon skull finished! I haven't change a lot of thing since last time I've shown Ydriss' helmet. I finially didn't make the frill, but I added some beads, like in my initial sketch. Now the dragon's skull is varnished and I'll let him like that! Dragon helmet by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr
Gorgeous! I used to sculpt a lot in clay... I am a bit tempted to try my hand with a skull mask, it looks like such fun, I might try a cat skull, or a Neandetal, wouldn't that be jolly cool?!
Thanks! Oh, that sounds cool. You must try it! I'll be curious to see the result. Thank you very much!
*** 6 arms *** WIP Ydriss by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr WIP Ydriss by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr My girl has 6 arms now! I didn't made the modifications, it's a friend of mine (@pandalilou ) who did it yesterday. I was so afraid of doing it... I put her torso and arms together to see if everything goes well. Now I will disassemble her again in order to make body painting/tattoos on her. And her blush too. Currently the head looks darker than her body.
This is amazing! I'm really in awe of your brush work and vision. I can't wait to see everything together!
@Sephora Thank you veru much for your kind comment! And sorry for the late reply ^^' Well, I let AGAIN this doll in a box for years. But a friend of mine challenged me to finish a doll customization by August 5th. And I choose this one! This is going to be very challenging! Today I made a necklace for her. Shown here on a Feeple60 bust but who cares . by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr Maybe the feathers are too long. I will think about cutting them a little.
Aaaaaand small skulls! I already made one for my shaman but I had 5 more paper bases for 5 more skulls. Here are 4 of them! I wish to hang them at my Euna's waist. They are a little more heavy than I would like, so I don't know if I will hang all of them or just 3 of them.
You dropped something - my jaw!! Those hands are exquisite, I can only hope to be as good as you one day (with a lot of practice) ☺️
@Sno-Oki Thank you very much! Yeah practice is the key! I'm doing BJD's faceups (and tattoos and so on) since 2009 now. I'm surely give the impression that I do everything in the same time/ in disorder, but that's because it's the case! I need to work on everything in order to have done this girl on August 5th. It will be a little challenging, as I bought today some beads that were missing for her jewerlry. And I must get them on August 5th In the meantime I'm working on a leather corset for her. I use the kitchen towel and scotch tape technique for the pattern. Here is the pattern I got in leather: A friend told me the breast part was strange, and she was right. But as the necklace will hide most of the upper part, I don't care that much! Not enought to find the will of doing it again. Here is the corset done:
All six forearms are painted! I wanted something quite simple for this girl. She won't have tattoos on arms I think, only forearms and hands. And maybe something on chest/neck, but I'm not sure since her outfit and her futur jewelries will hide most of her neck and bust. It's not perfect but I will live with it
My Elfdoll Euna's customization is nearly finished! She is only missing some bracelets (many bracelets) and I have one more skull to complete. But she has already much presence, hasn't she? (I want my striiiiiiiiings for her bracelets! I need them before August 5th and it is still not shipped!)
I finally took the time for pictures of the outfit: She is officially finished! But I think I will make more outfits for her later
