40–49cm Dolls MSD Boy head!

Jul 13, 2015

    1. Just barely finished my first BJD head and I've started another. *LOL*

This one will be MSD sized or rather SDCute sized. Since I will be making it to fit a Volks SDcute boy body.

As per usuall, most my work is also posted on my DA gallery: The Midnight TeaParty project Gallery
      ___________________________________________

He is made from paperclay, the gray stuff is a mix of super scuptly and two-part apoxy-scuplt.

Most of the head-base is done, working on making the inside of the head smooth and professional looking.

Covered the eye holes with strong apoxy scuplt, will carve out the eyeshape later. (long since learned to use strong material here since the walls are thinner.)

Covered in gray primer (Secound photos) because it helps stick the sculpty to the paperclay better.

      Here are in progress photos:

    2. And an update!

Here is the MSD-sized head with the facial features on, it's uneven and unbalanced in some places. I will be working on making the face even in the next few days.

The cracking that you see is the result of putting the layer of super sculpt over paper clay. However unlike the SD-sized head that I had done, the eye holes should be much more stronger since they have been enforced with apoxy putty from behind within the eyewells.

    4. BuffDolls: Thank you! :)

      UPdate: It's been awhile huh?

Anyways, below is the progress that I have made thus far, I am hoping to get him casted at the same time as my other head (to save on shipping)

I started the shape of his eyes, I'm not totally happy with it yet, but the strange thing is, you don't notice right away the unevenness till after. So I started on making his head cap which is that half egg looking thing at the bottom, I really liked the way it turned out

Things fixed since my last update: The cracked parts of his face, replaced with apoxy/scuptly mix. More of it added to the back of his head. His nose was carefully taken off and re positioned. His little frown fixed. Eye-holes started on.

Things to work on: Eyes (obviously!) Neck-hole, upper lip maybe? Sanding to even out the shape of his face a bit more. Add a bit more depth and facial definition. FInish his head cap.

I have his ears already pre-made, but they will go on last.

    5. Hello Update on my latest!

And I put in some eyes and.....nope, nope, nope, nope.

Totally not what I was going for!

Sure the boy is cute, (oh so very very cute!)

      BUT! It's not Ciel Phantomhive!

I do like this face, I want to keep him maybe have him casted in resin, but he wasn't what I was trying to go for.
I don't know, I don't know what I am going to do, should I try again?

    6. If you feel he's worth casting, despite not being what you were going for, you might then use one of his resin casts as a base to make adjustments on in order to bring him closer to what you had in mind initially?

    7. Honestly, I'd rather start over again.

and I have started, I am going to be using more paper clay then supers sculpty. When I get the base done I will start posting up photos of my progress in a new thread.

    8. You're making a Ciel doll?! All the best :}
