Has anyone found the Boo-riginal Monster High dolls in store? I just found out that select Walmarts have them, or had them. None of mine have them. I am excited for them to make a return. I am also really happy to hear they no longer have glue in the heads. That was one reason I got rid of all the dolls I had and stopped buying Mattel dolls. Nothing worse than loving a doll and they have nasty, sticky glue running through their hair and down their necks into their clothes!
God…literally, I have a few really old second hand monster high dolls and it’s like- their hair is disgusting glad to hear the glue is gone!
I haven't been able to find them at my local WalMarts. I was kind of disappointed because they made it sound like they were going to be available across the United States, so I hope they do come to all WalMarts soon (and international).
I feel like there is a MH thread on here already, if my dusty brain works at all. I haven't been able to find MH at any Walmart near me. I kind of hoarded too many of them when they were new, but I made the huge mistake of unboxing the first 7 dolls. I am into horror, so playline monster themed dolls seemed super exciting to me. Later I greatly regretted it, so I would love to be able to get Frankie and Draculaura MISB for my collection, maybe Duece and Cleo if they re-release them. Sadly, I think scalpers will get to them before actual collectors can. I do get Mattel newsletters, but I don't receive news about "regular" releases, only about the "collectors" releases, which I have no interest in (although I do love vampires and Dracula is tempting, I would have preferred male Dracula). I probably won't hoard MH new releases, unless they do Skelita or re-releases of the lines I wanted but wasn't able to get at the time they originally did. They kind of got harder to find at some point (I live in n a small touristy town). Otherwise, I am okay not hoarding MH this time around.(:
I don't believe there's a need to apologize. My old-fart brain doesn't work well, although I always had issues with memory even when younger. (: There are two older MH related thread on here, both about customization: Face-ups on monster high dolls & Modding a Monster/Ever after High. Those haven't been merged yet, although they probably could be (they probably won't be). This one seems more about discussion of the dolls themselves, so it probably won't be merged at any point. I recall there being discussion about MH on here, so that's why I commented about it, but wasn't really sure, since my brain does fail me most of the time. You didn't do anything wrong.
I haven't found any either. I was starting to think that they just weren't released yet. Especially since all of the ones that I've seen online are from people who got them as PR. But now I've heard that some stores do have them?? I hope I can find them soon
I haven't seen any as of yet I remember I got into MH right at the tail end of their run around 2017-2018. There were very few and far between dolls in-store and I ended up ordering a lot on Amazon (as well as Ever After High). I know they announced a return of the dolls but I'm hoping their prices aren't insanely high and that scalpers won't get to them first. I'll definitely keep an eye out! They used to have them at some Walgreens locations too as well as Target, so don't forget to check those out as well if you have any near you ^_^
Omg Ever After High was my entire life!! The dolls, the novels, the show, literally everything. The day that they follow Monster High and rerelease dolls will be the day that my wallet hates me the most-
I did see those, but thought they were about something different or in a different section :/ I figured posting in them would make people think I was wanting to customize rather than talk about the actual dolls. oops lol
That makes me so happy to hear about the heads no longer having glue. I love to get MH dolls for repaints, and having to clean out all of the greasy hair and nasty glue from their heads was absolutely the worst part of customizing them
They are not for sale in stores in my country but I just ordered lagoona some days ago and I love her! Really happy they fixed the glue problem too the hair felt so nasty before
I was a big obsessed with MH a few years back, sold them all before I moved town. The only one I have left is the Adult Collector's Draculaura... really wish I'd grabbed two so I could have one MIB, she's gorgeous. Really wish they'd kept using that body for the Adult Collector's line. None of the other ones have really tickled my fancy, but I'm glad they're doing them. They're much prettier than Living Dead Dolls are and if I was still into horror in a big was like I was when I was collecting LDD and MH, I'd snatch them up.
When the Creeproductions dropped I couldn't find them in stores at all - there wasn't even a display so I don't think they were sold out, just never delivered or intended for a physical release. I did manage to snag the ones I wanted online for preorder but shipping has taken forever.
I was able to snag all the girls through Amazon! Prices varied but all were fairly reasonable. (Goes how much to show you that BJDs have ruined me lol) Looking forward to any further releases. I'd really like a Cleo or Ghoulia!
Whew, got my hands on all the Haunt Couture girls (so far) too. Now that was a wild ride. So many crazy prices. I managed to get them within $50 of original price so that was fine but it took a while. Still building up my collection again. I used to have just about everything Frankie related but I sold all that off. I have pretty much everything I want after a few days of looking. I just need a Signature Cleo!
I kept mine, I think I have every regular base character that was sold and a few others bought mostly for rerooting purposes. I never got to opening Nova and Gooliope before they got put in storage tubs when I redid the shelving system and just never quite made it back out before we moved. When they changed the faces it made it easy to be done with them unless it was someone specific. The only warning I have is to make sure any soft clear accessories and shoes aren't melting. That turned out to be an unpleasant surprise.
I've still got all my old MH, i originally collected 1 of each character(except con exclusives and never got a holt sadly), and have recently been getting them all out of storage and fixing them up(yeesh the glue heads, so glad to hear the new don't have that) in anticipation of the reboot. This seems to be an unpopular opinion but I'm really liking the new character designs for the new cartoon series coming out, I like that they are so different and their own thing, rather than just a weirdly softened version of the original sculpts like the 16 reboot was.
I still haven't seen these anywhere near me, probably just as well. I really shouldn't start this back up again haha
My Monster High collection has exploded! I really need to tone it down. I actually have a website of all my dolls, if anyone's interested in buying/trading. Boo Plays with Dolls
I found them in one of the local Walmarts and I grabbed Frankie, but the next time I went back they were gone already. I kind of regret not grabbing Lagoona too while I had the chance. But I have a rather large MH and EAH collection going for me (just added Dracubecca in fact). Haven’t had any issues with glue seepage so far, but apparently there are a few methods to fix the problem if it happens.
I just found out about the haunt couture line and I'm very disappointed I missed out on those. Actually I didn't know the toy line came back until today so I'm potentially very excited for the future releases. And I'm stoked about nonbinary they/them Frankie from the new movie they're doing this year, while I don't plan on watching it, I sure hope that Frankie's nonbinary stuff makes it into the toyline. I'm not holding my breath though, as I saw what happened with creatible world dolls :/
I never found any creeprodutions or the B&W versions. I have seen some of the latest G3 dolls. They're pretty cute. I tried multiple times to find the Draculaura Gore-Ganizer. But I had to order her. Finally have her and she is sooo cute! I don't know if I will get others but I am very happy with this one.
I don't want to know what a hot summer in storage did to the glue in my Gen 1s... The only place I have even seen the new dolls in the wild has been Walmart. They're doing the different body types like with Barbies.
I did not know we had an MH thread *slides on in* I'm loving the new dolls, I've gotten Deuce, Goulia, Cleo, and Draculaura. I plan to get a Frankie too once I make up mind on basic or the one that comes with Deuce, as I do not mind having another version of my fav MH boy. I like the new dolls a lot so far and the new bodies are nice. As for the They/Them pronouns on Frankie the dolls have pronouns listed on the boxes for Frankie as They/Them and I hear the new cartoon show will also have them be a them. As someone in the LGBTQ+ I'm loving the heck out of Frankie being a they now, and hope someday there will be other MH characters openly in the rainbow. Oh and I managed to get the "Skullector" Bride of Frankenstein two pack, and I can't say enough good about it. The Bride of Frankenstein is like my favorite romantic horror movie, so this doll set feels made for me. The details are wonderful, and it's cute to have a young version of Frankie's parents.
At first I was kind of ambivalent about the G3 designs but they're much cuter in person and I now have the basic Draculaura and the Goreganizer version. The line as a whole seems to be selling well so fingers crossed that this generation will stick around
@Tippetarius Lucky you getting the Skullector dolls! Congrats! I like Frankie’s They/Them too. I might get the Creepover version. I will have to see in person. I love how the new dolls look, especially Draculaura and strangely, Deuce. He has a very charming smirk. I generally don’t care for the boys.
I really hope they bring that holiday draculaura to walmart. Thats the best outfit theyve created since this brand relaunch started.
ive always wanted to collect MH dolls but most of my money goes to my dolls (or more yarn lol) so i never had the chance....i would love to snag the new Draculara tho, she looks so cute!
Just saw the multi pack at Walmart for $$$. A fair enough price if you break it down per individual doll. Saw some single Clawdeens so there's a decent chance other singles are out there.
I stalked the local Target for a month and managed to find everyone and the coffee shop on an end cap one day. So far I'm loving most of the new designs. (Hate the skirt on Ghoulia, it rides up constantly.) Surprisingly Cleo is my favorite of the bunch. She was fairly far down my list in the previous versions, but a lot of thought went into her current design and you can tell.
Was just about to say Target has a good selection. Saw a Laguna who I assume changes color because a lot of her was pink. And please don't tell me there's a coffee shop.
Laguna doesn't change color. A lot of the dolls got color changes with G3, Laguna's was the most obvious. The Coffin Bean set is super cute. It comes with a lot of cute props, but the furniture is the highlight. It blends well if you have previous furniture sets.
I'm really happy about NB Frankie! All the research says that dolls that reflect kid's identities improve their self-esteem (I think most of existing research is about race, not gender, but I bet it transfers). I can imagine Frankie being really special to plenty of kiddos.
@lady-broscar I think you're right about Frankie as a they/them being something wonderful to some kid out there. I'm trans-male and use he/him pronouns, and as a kid my favorite Disney movie was Mulan. I had every doll and action figure for Mulan, those dolls gave me something of an early click on identity. I would be an adult before I fully figured it out, but as a kid I needed that doll in male drag to say this is ok, you are ok. So I am 100% there are kids out there that need the they/them Frankie to help things click, or to go they're like me I'm not alone. I love MH is giving kids that it warms my heart. Speaking of MH and Frankie, I keep eyeing that Frankie Deuce two pack. So think that might be the version of Frankie I end up getting with this run. (Also if my collection says anything it's I personally can never have too many Deuce dolls. XD)
Oh, thank you! No, I didn't. I commissioned it through an artist on Etsy. I believe their name is Nenasdolls.
I used to reroot Monsters, not doing any new ones until the old ones sell, and it just takes time. I did needle and thread and knotting and the biggest advice I'd give is get at least twice as much as you think you'd want for a Barbie. The hardest part is getting all the glue blarf out of the head.
I have two of the new G3 Draculaura's coming. She is the only one I really like enough at the moment to buy. I have seen them all in stores and I am trying not to compare them to what the originals were, but to look at them as a separate doll line, but I am not really liking them much. They could grow on me, other than Draculaura, I like Cleo and Clawdeen kind of, but the rest I don't care for at all so far.
I'm still really torn on the new line. I love that they've come back but I have yet to pull the trigger on any of them, though if I come across a Draculara for the right price I might eventually grab a couple so I have at least one to customize. Haven't been following the line too closely so does anyone know if they've made/plan to make Lagoona?
@TwistedRiver They have made Lagoon, but made her pink. People have mix feelings on her, but I think she looks ok though I don't plan to get her. I have Duce and a few of the girls and like the ones I have, I do still want a Frankie.
I got creepover Twyla today...I didn't plan on getting her but I saw her the other day and almost grabbed her but didn't, this one was the only one they had and I caved lol. I also got the core Cleo, I really do like her. They had a ton of her as well as Toralei, Clawdeen (core and creepover) and Frankie (core and creepover). I am not keen on any of those so it was an easy pass. Upon opening them I am a bit disappointed because I was told that Mattel doesn't put glue in the heads anymore, but that is simply not true. Their heads are rock hard and when squeezing you get that crunch of dried glue smh. All the MH dolls I collected in the past were ruined once that glue got gummy and leaked all over That makes me definitely a bit more hesitant to buy too many of these going forward. Twyla's hair was a mess right out of the box, Cleo's is nice, and I checked every doll, this one had the smoothest looking hair from what I could see. The others had bunched up bits in the front or on the side and back. Cleo's hair doesn't feel as silky as it looks, but that could be from the tinsel. Twyla's feels about as nice as it looks. Not much has changed in the land of Mattel. pics in spoiler Spoiler
@jenlovesdolls They’re so pretty! It’s a shame about the glue. My g1 dolls get pretty sticky. I’ve managed to clean up my favorites but it’s such a hassle.
Thanks for letting me know, sounds like unless a Lagoona falls into my lap or I see her dirt cheap I won't be getting her. Lagoona was one of my first MHs, I got her and a Draculara second hand years ago with a bunch of random doll clothes and accessories my sister and I went in on for our Blythe dolls and I still feel she is objectively one of the prettiest MH dolls I own in spite of her "played with" condition and a big part of that is due to her coloring. @jenlovesdolls your girls are lovely, especially like the way they remade Cleo. I really like her outfit and accessories she came with but I could do without the tinsel in her hair. I like to change up my girls from time to time, brushing their hair and whatnot and I've had bad luck with tinsel not holding up in the past.
Yeah, thankfully the glue is still hard, but I know down the road what happens all too well Thank you. I may try to pull the tinsel out if it poses issues while brushing etc, but I don't mess with my dolls too much so for now I won't touch it.
Today I removed the bangs on my Twyla and gave her a boil wash. Her hair was so ratty out of the box, I am pretty happy with how it came out. Pics in spoiler Spoiler
I got my Draculaura's today I love love love the creepover one the best The Drac's are definitely my favorites though. I can't wait for the skulltimate secrets to come out. I really wish Mattel would stop with all the stupid T strap things...one of my girls had FOUR in her head! That is absurd to me. There is no need for that many, but anyway, on with the show. Pics in spoiler Spoiler One pic out of spoiler because for some reason it won't show up in the spoiler :/
Your Draculara's are lovely, I think out of the new gen dolls she's the one I'd be most likely to pick up, but I'd want a double to customize just because of how much I do like her sculpt, though the OG version will always be my favorite.
Update. I have read that they don't use glue in the heads since 2016. So I may be wrong about my dolls have glue heads. I have read they burn the hair in place. My dolls heads are hard and have that crackly noise if you try and squeeze them so I assumed it was glue, as that is how it used to be until it got tacky and started seeping out. I hope these people are right, not sure where they got the info from. For years Matte said they didn't use glue, when clearly they did so I have a hard time believing anything they say.
I know now of days they do not use glue in the hair of dolls, but the phasing it out was slow. With at least one of their factories using it longer then the rest, so you could have two dolls made in the same year one with glue in the head one without. In other MH news anyone see the Elvira doll? I didn't have the cash so had to pass on her, but love the idea that she has an MH doll. It sold out in one day as per normal sadly.
Ah that makes sense, but I would hope all these new MH dolls that just released won't have them. I saw the Elvira doll, I like her but trying to get one of the Skullector dolls is too much of a headache. I will just enjoy photos of them I got Frankie and Clawdeen today, Lagoona is supposed to show up today too but so far no movement at all. Walmart had several dolls marked down to 20 on the website and with employee discount they were even cheaper so I ordered the ones they had that I didn't have already. Poor Frankie looked like they had no neck, I had planned to redress them in this OMG outfit and I love it on them. Pics in spoiler: Spoiler
Actually it's not glue, I've removed the hair from a few of the g3 dolls to customize them. And there wasn't any glue but the ends of the hair on the inside of the head were burnt and melted together, and that's what was causing cracking sound and hard heads.
