Moldmaking moldmaker?

Oct 10, 2005

    1. There are some few things I want to know about a moldmaker…

      how to find one?
How much will it cost to cat a 54cm doll?
Do they make the doll hollow?

I'd be really thankful if any one replied :chibi

      Thank you!!!

    2. I'm curious as well. Making a mold for a hollow doll seems too complex for me O_O

    4. Hi Angelique,

You can do a search online, or through the dollmaking.org forum. I am using a NiADA artist who has molded and cast for a lot of major American doll artists, but there are others. I know that one of the most highly spoken of is Tom Banwell. If you go to lumicast.com you will see his website. His company has been doing resin casting for a long time, as well as giving lessons. I found my moldmaker through word of mouth on the dollmaking.org forum. I figured that other doll artists would know who does good work...

The size and complexity (hollow casting, undercuts) affects the quote, so just take photos of the pieces, label w/ measurements, and email to get quotes. I tried a few before I chose the person who is doing mine. I think that you want someone w/ a lot of experience doing other dolls for ppl. You'll also want to ask what types of resin that they work with...some people prefer a particular kind, others are more flexible. If possible, you should have a piece of something in the resin that you like so that you can send to the moldmaker to match.

I don't know how Donn does it, but the hollow casts are some of the more difficult ones!

    5. Ok!
