Modification Mods to 50 cm BBB Luna/Lotus body

Apr 27, 2009

    1. Well I wanted a 50 cm resin in the worst way....

      That's kinda what I got.

But the price was right for modding, so I determined to make this work with my DZ Mo head.

First, deliberately yellowing the BBB WS to match the DZ WS. Took about 2 months in the direct sun, in a window.

No, I know this is neither a Mo head nor a BBB body. This is a MEI head I yellowed at the same time, now on the 44cm DZ body I was "leaving behind."

Next about 4 hours of grinding and polishing, to reduce the BBB bewbs to something that looked they would be on a human body, as opposed to an alien in a human Halloween costume, assuming aliens celebrate Halloween.

"A lot off the top and sides, please." Basically, that was all it took, 4 hours with a dremel a grinding head, and a polishing head.

Also removed the enormous neck-goiter and reduced the neck size so the Mo head would fit.

Now what you cannot see is that the usual wimpy BBB elastic in these bodies is replaced by something even thinner and wimpier, pretty much guaranteeing that they cannot stand. Add to that the bizarro "I must have been an apprentice dollmaker" hinge-like single joints (no, they are not even remotely "balls") and you have a recipe for acute frustration.

More robust elastic doesn't fit in the itty bitty wrist and ankle joints. Forget S-hooks. The wrists don't hold a pose AT ALL.

Multiple answers here. More robust elastic in the leg and torso. Tie the feet onto the elastic with a short section of smaller elastic. Wire the knees with 14 gauge automotive wire. Leave the arm elastic alone, but tighten it and add wire to the wrists--covered florist wire. Silicone kip in the neck to help with head posing (problems there are possibly due to my own sanding.

      This is what you get.

A serviceable 50 cm resin body that can stand, pose, and hold things. Still has issues, and it's nothing I would want to show unclothed (I won't even get into the skinny arms) but the price is right if you are not afraid to mod and want a shorter body.

Oh, the bewbs are pretty much solid, so you could also take this down to a flat chest provided you don't mind a boy that looks like the Pharaoh Akenaten--

    2. An excellent job! She looks like a post-pubescent girl - still skinny but with all the right curves.

    3. Vickie has a very ballet-dancer-like figure, and is EXTREMELY short, so this is pretty much perfect for her.

    4. Wow...you made that body look good...at least with clothes on! I like BBB...but I HATE that body...mostly the skinny arms and the breasts. Especially the breasts. They just look...glued on...or like they were thrown on as an afterthought...even under clothes they look odd. But your mods to them...well, that 4 hours was WELL worth it! She looks so good!

    5. I don't know what BBB was thinking with that doll. You've made her quite presentable, though! Good job!!

    6. I just love your honesty about this body. And the dedication of yellowing it to match the head! wow.

I think you did a good job making the body servicable, but part of me thinks it's a shame you left the hands as is. If you steamed and bent the fingers a little bit, it could go a way in fixing the 'bbq skewer' look of the arms.

    7. I'm actually planning on bending the fingers, but they are so thin I am going to have to be very, very careful, so I am going to see if I can get some spare hands first.

    8. Ok, so this is a really old thread ... but did you ever manage to get the fingers bent? How well did it turn out if you did?

    9. I would really love to see those pictures, as I plan to mod exactly this body.

    10. Unfortunately Photobucket stopped supporting a free account option and began charging a completely ridiculous amount for their paid accounts. I pulled all the photos and told them to take a hike, but I haven't found anywhere else to post them.

    11. Oh. That's sad. I think a lot pictures are missing here nowadays.:sweat

But thank you for your reply!
