But the best way to get well-fitting stockings/socks is to wrap some masking tape around your doll's foot, then cut it off, spread it out - and now you have a pattern. Here's a dress project journal - the OP uses the same method.

UPD.: I actually found a fitting mnf stockings pattern here, the leftmost one, the number 1. The dotted line means 'fold'.
