Body Comparison MNF Boy A, Motion, and Moe-line (nudity)

Jun 19, 2018

    1. Someone in the mnf discussion thread was asking for comparison pics of the A-line and Motion-line mnf boy bodies, so I figured I'd just do one big comparison for anyone that might want the reference!

From left to right: John (scar breakaway on a-line), Kane (mir/mika on motion-line), Sam (el on moe-line)

So obviously there's some big differences between these bodies. The motion-line, I will say, is the easiest of them to pose, which makes sense seeing as it is the latest Fairyland design. It really is superb. That said, I still much prefer the aesthetic of the a-line, but that's just my personal preference. Mine does have that classic a-line issue where it pretty much always has to stand with it's weight on the right leg or it'll kick out. It's not bad to work with once you're used to it, though. The moe-line, while a good slender aesthetic, is the weakest when it comes to upper body poses just because of how low the torso joint is. It is a more stable standing poser than the a-line, though. Mine is prone to slouching, which is fine because it suits the character, but it might also just be because he is strung just a tad loose.

The moe-line's lack of a hip joint doesn't impede it much, which is nice, but the motion-line does benefit from having one. However, it's a bit more constrained than the a-line hip joint, which I think is a good thing. It has a little too much range of motion on the a-line, I think.

Chest closeups. Obviously I'm partial to the more muscular build of the a-line. Even the 'non-muscular' version, because it has stronger looking arms and thicker thighs. Again, that's just personal aesthetic preference lol.

Feet! Obviously moe-line has much smaller feet. It and the motion-line have magnetic feet, though, and you can always pick up the larger ones to swap out the teenie ones so that's nbd (you can also pick up the parts needed to convert an a-line to magnetic feet from Fairyland). My personal faves are the motion-line, though. They're a bit more detailed than the a-line and I quite like them.

Kneeling. Honestly all of the bodies held this pose pretty well, none of them were particularly difficult to pose.

Standing on one foot. Again, motion-line was probably the easiest to get into this pose with the a-line taking a little finagling. Moe did it pretty easy too. When they have boots on, though, I'd say they're all pretty equal.

I still hold that a-line looks best in this post. Motion-line holds it fine, but you do get a bit of a gap in the chest piece when it does, unlike the a-line which locks very nicely. Moe was the weakest here. The joint doesn't like to lock as well, and the fact that it's so low down on the torso hinders it when trying this pose.

Cross-legged. Motion and moe kinda edge out a-line, but not by much. Honestly more of the struggle probably came from the fact that I was shooting this on linoleum. In clothes and/or on carpet they'd probably be equal.

Well that's it! If you'd like to request a specific pose or close-ups or anything, just comment and let me know, I'm willing to add to the thread!

Overall I'd say that motion-line is definitely the strongest poser. That said, they're all good, I think it mostly just comes down to the body type you want for your doll at the end of the day. If we're lucky, maybe Fairyland will even do a renewal for the boy a-line body like they did for the female and fix that troublesome right leg/foot for us XD

    2. This is an excellent post! Thanks for putting it together. Now I know I want a motion line body :)

    3. Thank you for this!

    4. Thank you very much! Now I kinda want motion line more than moe line XD (but moe body looks so cute:XD:)

    5. Thank you for the comparison! It helped clear up a lot!!

One question I'd still like to ask though is:
Are any of the bodies taller than the other?

I know I should be able to thrust fairyland measurements here, but I've heard conflicting information of the motion line being noticeably taller or smaller than the a line for example ..
So I'm looking for the hight of the neck and not the top of the head (as that can vary too )

    6. @Roseleaf The a-line body is just BARELY taller than the other two in the shoulder, though the motion-line seems to have a slightly longer neck. Once you start putting shoes on them, and also taking into account the fact that some of the heads are bigger than others, though...the answer is really no. I would not say that any of them is noticeably taller than the others. Their builds are just very different, which can leave the impression of moe-line being a good bit smaller than the others, with a-line being the biggest. A-line is definitely the bulkiest and widest, for sure.

    7. Ooooh my goodness!! Thank you so much for all these pictures and reviews! My MNF Niella is in need of a buff partner in crime and I was worried that going with another company may dwarf him too much. But the A-line looks perfect next to the motion-line so I'll definitely be looking in to ordering a tan boy once tan comes back around!

    8. @Hakari-chan

Would it be too much trouble to ask for pics of the Motion or Active line feet on the Moe line body?

I love my Moe line body but his sausage toes bug the heck out of me X'D

    9. Super helpful post!! Thanks.
I have to agree with you, I also really like the aesthetic of the a-line body. The feet on the motion line are really beautiful though.

    10. The poor motion line body looks so scrawny next to the buff A-line.
A pic request if possible: the side view of them sitting with legs straight out. I know the A-line have super curvy calves, so their feet are up in the air when seated like that.

    11. Thanks for the comparison.
The one thing that bugs me about the a-line and motion is that pelvis joint, it's personal aesthetic preference but to me it looks like ken undies lol.

I do quite like that slender petiteness of the new motion line though.

I ordered my bw Mio with the moe boy body, hoping i love it as much in person as i do in photos i have seen. :whee:

    12. Thanks very much for this comparison! Do the knees on the motion line really look that different when kneeling? I ask because the way their bent knees look is one of the main things I love about my FL dolls :)

    13. @Hakari-chan Thank you so much to lead me here :D

      This help me a lot!
