Materials Mixing different types of sculpey

Mar 16, 2013

    1. I like to mix firm, super, and normal white and black sculpey together, for what I like to call my perfect blend.
Does anyone else ever mix different types of sculpey?
Also if you do...is there any easier way then hand blending it together or using the hand cranking pasta makers? I would love to be able to mix whole boxes in a go if I could. :)

    2. How to Make CLAY Characters.
      Maureen Carlson.
Cincinnati, OH: North Light Books, 1997.
      ISBN: 978-0891347217

Not only is this book a good clay modeling tutorial for beginning modelers, but it is also a lot of fun, and has a ton of useful polymer clay information in it.

Use World Cat to find this book in a Public Library.

      Hopefully helpful?

    3. Thanks for the info, I did try out the food processor. It worked fine for Super Sculpey and Sculpey III, but when it comes to the Firm brand it killed my Ninja after two runs. Oh well I will be returning said food processor. I didn't even get it to a sticky point...it just died. Maybe I just got a bad unit.

That's my little update for now. I will keep trying out things to save time. I hate spending half a day mixing clay.

    4. I want to get a pastamaker extruder myself. I hand knead my super sculpey with my dried out regular sculpey and my hands ache after awhile.

I'm not sure I would get enough use out of a food processor, I am incredibly lazy and the level of cleaning detail required each time you use it just isn't my cup of tea.

    5. Have you looked in the clay isle of your local michaels/hobby lobby? I got a pasta machine for my clay at my local michaels ^^ I havent tried a food processor before though... dont really have room to store one in my tiny apartment either.

    6. I sometimes use my clay only pasta machine to mix clay, but have no inclination to mix such large amounts that I'd need a food processor. My first attempt at a ball jointed doll is more of a dragon than a human, but I used a combination of white Premo and a bit of black Fimo Soft. Had sore hands the next day from mixing stiffer than normal clay. And because I'm the sort of person who always has half a dozen projects going at once, I'm also using sculpey Bake and Bend mixed with a bit of Premo. It's a bit too flexible after it's baked for me to ever use it for another project like this. I like how well the Premo is working so far. It slightly flexible but fairly sturdy.
