Can this be done? Is it beneficial? I just bought some white apoxie sculpt because I love testing out new materials and I've heard about mixing apoxie sculpt with other clays. Has anyone tried mixing apoxie sculpt and ladoll together?
You could probably add in a little bit without it being a detriment to the curing of the apoxie. I mean if you can mix sculpey into apoxie (I had success with 1/5th sculpey to 2/5 apoxie part and 2/5 apoxie part b, haven't tried anything more yet.) Not sure what the benefits might be, perhaps it would be easier to sand, but have the strength of apoxie?
Making it lighter, increasing the working time, changing the plasticity or other textural/tactile qualities.
Why not add something like micro balloons or cab-o-sil to lighten it and adjust A/B ratios or temperature to affect cure time rather than Sculpey which requires baking to cure?
I have not needed to bake where polymer clay was added to apoxie. Mixing dry powder or microballons to clay in a large enough quantity to affect the weight will change the quality of the clay, like adding flour to a dough. The clay would not hold together as well, and might be more brittle. With apoxie you don't want to adjust a/b ratios too much ~ it's designed to be used 1:1 by volume, other epoxy clays may be different. To increase working time with apoxie alone you would have to use cool temperature. Which makes the clay more firm, harder to apply and blend. Personally I work better when I am warm and comfortable. Use and need will vary from project to project and from one artist to another. It's about experimentation. and using what you have on hand, to try to find a better medium that suits what I want to do.
