does this mean we can still order up till march or are they just dealing with their current order until then? D:
I think Denny means that whether you're happy with the head or not, all current orders will be finished in March and no new orders will be accepted.
pendrithgirl, if you follow the link to the board post, the subject line is "Minimee service is closed" and the site no longer offers a link to the Minimee customizing service. It's probably safe to say they're no longer taking orders, so there's plenty of time for Denny to make sure the remaining Minimee custom heads are completed to their future owners' satisfaction by March. I think you may not realize how bad that makes Denny sound, especially when it's not what he said at all.
Someone may want to post a note/sticky about this in the Marketplace forum that deals with Minimees. A lot of people there still haven't seen it.
Sad news for the Minimee Fans: Link from web site: http://www.dimdoll.com/board/pop4.php3?ID=167 P.S. Note for MODs if this isn't the appropriate subforum please move this thread into the appropriate section, thank You.
This is really too bad . I hope he is able to put a new team together -- I have two minimees, and love them both. It would be nice to have the option of commissioning more heads in the future. I agree with Tokiko, I wouldn't think there would be an issue with getting heads finished including changes if they are just working to finish up orders already in. The GO I was in for one of my heads requested changes, and it really didn't take much time to get them done.
I'm really sad about this. I hope Denny gets a new team together, because he's always been such a pleasure to deal with. I also hope we can find out if the Chinese team sets up its own shop. They had a talented bunch of sculptors.
I had a GO ready to place the order as soon as the team came back from holiday. I'm really bummed, but moreso for my participants. I hope the best for Denny. He is a joy to work with and I have truly nothing but nice things to say about him and the work he did on my three Minimee orders.
Oh noes! I had so many MNMs I was interested in getting one of these days. The sculpting team Denny worked with was truly amazing. I can only hope that he'll be able to find another team that is just as amazing as them and re-open the service someday. On the other hand, wonder where the original MNM team is moving on to? Hmm.
This really is very sad news indeed! I have several Minimee heads all of which I love very much. They have produced so many amazing custom heads over the years, I just hope Denny can get a new team together very soon!
This news to me it's simply shocking,i mean that was completely inexpected.. But imo Denny should closed the orders on December. I'm truely sorry for all people who open the GO,i should say that the quality of the MnM heads casted went low down in years,so this stop maybe it's good. I'm quite surpriced also to discover thta the sculptor was chinese... Are other companies that provide this service of custom manifacturing but aren't DIM,so we don't know actually how the things works for these company.
I was surprised too, I had always had the impression that the sculptors were Korean, and they were just getting the heads cast in China. I've seen some recent Minimee heads that were excellent, so I think the talent was still there. Denny and the team just got overwhelmed maybe? Angelsdoll offers a similar service but it costs a fortune. Another company had planned to start up a service a year or two ago-- can't remember who it was-- DoD? But it all came to nothing.
That's unfortunate, just when I was thinking of getting one. Hopefully Denny is able to start a team in Korea. I do wonder though if he does if the prices will increase. Generally speaking manufacturing in China is cheaper, as cost of living. And from the way Denny worded things is sounds like the Chinese sculptors want to do this kind of work on their own, so maybe they'll open up their own service? Either way I wish Denny the best of luck.
Me too... omg I'm so bummed out that I won't be able to get my Ron Perlman head... I had planned a whole doll around it It sounds like the sculptors in China may be setting up their own company, it wouldn't surprise me as they are clearly a team of very talented individuals, so perhaps there is hope yet! I always thought this service was kinda too cheap to be true though...
Sorry, let me rephrase 'I think what Denny means is that after March, all current orders will be sent out because his sculpting team will no longer be working for DIM, and therefore he will be incapable of changing anything about the sculpts' Better?
There's an update from DiM - http://www.dimdoll.com/board/pop4.php3?ID=168 Dear Customers, We've decided to launch new minimee service in Late March. New team will be organized in our office in Korea. All production will be made in Korea. [Price] Individual order will not be available. Only 10, 20 etc group orders will be available as set price. Detailed information will be announce in March. With many experience for customer service and highly dedicated Korean sculptors will be working in my office which will make communication and work smooth and faster. Thank you. D.I.M
I have several of the DIM Minimees and they are wonderful! Of course my fave is Beauty and the Beast Vincent....LOL. Hope Denny can bring it back sometime in the future.
Nobility Doll offers a similar service. They seem to sculpt bodies to order but I think they may do heads too. I'm sure even if they don't they would be more interested now >.> It is a really sad thing though. I have 4 mnm's and I love them all.
That is good news! I wonder how this will affect the price though? I'm betting the sculpts and the speed at which they are made will see improvement (as I know from experience that communication seemed to be an issue).
Any word on Who or where the original Chinese sculpting team was? It mentions they want to do their own business, and I'd be interested in doing business with them, since I don't think I'll be able to get the 10 head order together Denny mentions will be necessary. That, and I like the matching work I saw from the old group. I'm less happy with Nobility doll's work, so I'm kind of scared of trusting a new team with something I've had in the making for 3 years.
... which is really too bad for people who want a head done after their own design. I'm glad I got my Celaran head when I did and didn't delay any longer. I wouldn't be able to get it now, at least not from DIM, since I wouldn't WANT to do a group order cos, call me selfish but I wouldn't want anyone else to own one. It's MY Celaran ...
FYI, Denny has started a board where GOs can be organized: http://dimdoll.com/board/list.php?board_name=DREAMBOARD16
This is a real shame. I've had 3 awesome MnM heads made in the last few years- Denny ran a steller service. I hope to see him up and running again in the future!
Denny's update is a joy to read, even if it means more group orders than individual ones. (I have to wonder how many individual ones they were getting, anyway -- I seemed to see the larger group orders more than anything else, but to be fair, the single orders might never have made it to public view.) This was such sad news, and it looks like there's a bright side. I really hope everything goes well with the new team, and that both groups continue to do really well in the future.
Well that was certainly faster then expected. Great to know that he'll be able to start it back up soon. It's unfortunate that there won't be anymore individual orders though. Guess I better learn how to sculpt my own head. Hehe.
Ok so.. seems thta that is not so bad in the end. Besides that i agree with Alewife 100% about the sculptors,it's a shame thta the service will be avaible only fro GO. I ran a personal order for several reason: i liked that picture i liked to decide on my own what changes may need the head i didn't wanted to accept the majority decision on certain changes... It's a shame thta personal order aren't allowed anymore,plòus we need to see how this new staff of sculptors work and if they are skilled enought,Just my two.
So my stupid question is: What is the price of an order of ten heads? Is it the same total price as before?
Actually we don't know,as DIM posted into the note that the heads are till 20 now i suppose that shall be an increase into the sale price for the event MiniMee,obviously this is just a speculation.
Some people have said there's been quality related issues with minimee in the last while, maybe that's why Denny is no longer working with the Chinese team? For example, people in the Mass Effect Thane GO recently reported that the tabs on the head had been broken and glued back on
The discontinuation of individual orders really saddens me. I had I was hoping to get this year and it's my own creation so I would deem a GO not to be an option. *sigh* But I am glad the service is not going away for groups.
I don't know about this. If you are lucky enough to find people to order together, you still have to wait till everyone pays etc. Besides, you can't pretty much order your "original" design dolls or your "mini-ME," which kind of defeat the purpose. And last, who's making new heads? Is she/he as good as the Chinese person ( I didn't know she/he was Chinese) who's been making the minimees? Now the cost of minimee increased but I don't see any benefits. It's really sad...
Here's the latest announcement at the DIM site: 2011/02/18 [04:53] Hit 6 Title New Minimee service will be launched soon with an event price Dear Customers, Thank you very much for waiting. Current minimee orders for modifying or casting are being done after the Chinese new year's holiday. New minimee service will be launched earlier than late March. Price will be similiar to the previous minimee service but the production quality will be better cared. When we open this up again, we are going to have an event price for celebrating on the new minimee service. [Event Period] From 7th. March to 10th. March Detailed information will be announced late Feb. Thank you very much. D.I.M
Man...does that mean I Have to order in a group order? thats bad T___T I only wanted to have to single heads..... and I wouldn't find anyone who would order with me. and that's exact the same way I think of it for my plannings....
>Any word on Who or where the original Chinese sculpting team was? I'd like to know WHO was making all those sculptures for Minimee. A Chinese designer? I don't care where the heads were manufactured but I'd like to know who was designing those heads, because the sculpture designs are one of the main reasons why DIM Minimee was great. Does anyone know??
DIM had several sculptors. I don't know if the sculptors were independently contracted, or part of a work team. They may have been affiliated with the casting service DIM used. Taobao is an auction site, yes.
weirdnessmagnet, chibaraki, and Alewife; Thank you! >isn't Taobao a Chinese auction website? That's like saying the dolls were sculpted by eBay. I didn't know it was something to do with Taobao. I googled it and it seems to be a shopping/auction service. Hum...confused... >DIM had several sculptors. I don't know if the sculptors were independently contracted, or part of a work team. They may have been affiliated with the casting service DIM used. Oh, so the only way to know is to ask them directly and hope DIM will answer. Thank you so much for the info. If this whoever the Chinese person has established new service then she/he might say something at here under News. Unless, she/he has a contract not to say who she/he was and will not reveal her/his identities when she/he makes a new company.
Thanks for that info. I was given the Taobao info from a former GO participant who said she'd communicated with the former sculpting team. She speaks Chinese and I don't, and I took her word for it.
That's interesting, I wonder if the sculpting team could have been selling their service through Taobao or something?
Has anyone been able to order Minimees now that the service is reopened? I tried to place an order but when I hit "add to Cart" nothing happened. I alerted DIM's tech support but so far haven't been able to resolve the issue. Anyone else had trouble with the site?
