Aesthetics Minifee Face-up

Apr 12, 2021

I feel like celebrating that I finally have managed to figure out my prefered eyebrow style and consistently apply them to face- ups. That being said, this artform always has room for growth and improvement. So I come looking for constructive critiques to apply to the next face up :chibi:kitty2 Please and thank yous

    2. Your eyebrow shape looks great. My main criticism would be the freckles. They look too.....uniform? Like all have perfect spacing between them. I would recommend looking into different ways to apply freckles! I saw one where you use a toothbrush to 'fling' watercolors onto the face in random specks and it looked really cool.

    3. Great job on your linework, it's really neat! As Capn says, I would perfect the freckle technique, personally I dot them on one by one but use some ref pics of real people with freckles - you'll notice they concentrate more on certain areas and are not uniform. I also would use a couple different shades of browns for freckles. Other than that don't be afraid to use pastels and blushing more, some shading on and under the brows, on the eyelids etc would look great.

    4. Your linework on the brows and lashes is really good and even.

Above posters already made helpful recs for improving the execution of the freckles.

What's the raised media on her eyelids? The particles looks out-of-scale for makeup glitter and incongruous in a face that otherwise has minimal "makeup" (no eyeshadow; no lip color if we can still see freckles; no blush). They might read better as applied decoration with some more eyeshadow underneath, maybe with a little bit of microglitter or mica for additional contrast from her skin texture.

    6. Thank you all!
I definitely agree about the freckles, I did the hand placed method to avoid making a mess, but I do plan to try the paint splatter method soon someplace I won't accidentally ruin important paperwork.

I really need to make a reference photo file I can pull up every time i sit down to work on a face up instead of picking some reference photos for concepts and working for memory :frownyblush: I can see how that would help with not only freckle placements but with the shading with pastels part.

It is a mixed small glitter, I mixed it with some watered down white glue and I played it very safe and didn't add a huge amount of the glitter to the glue, I was trying to mimic the mixed chunky glitter gel look.
      this was the inspiration
Login • Instagram I think I will go back and indiviually add some of my smaller chunky style glitter to the eyelids.

    7. Eyebrows look great! My only critique are the freckles! Freckles are usually concentrated around the T zone of the face then scatter (and sometimes fade) the further they get away from said T zone. Don't rush on them either! They take time.

    8. Your line work looks really good. Your using watercolor pencil. You need to keep your pencils sharp when you use them to cut down on the lines looking grainy. You can also go over, or dab at, your lines with a kneadable eraser. If you use more colors in your hairs you create depth.
You could try a little blushing in the T zone when you do freckles. Shading around the nose, above the lip, and the crease above the chin. If you vary the shading it will give it more depth.
You can also do slightly darker shading on the mouth corners. Leaving the center area a lighter will make the lips look fuller. A darker top lip will draw the eye away from the fullness of the lower... You get the idea.
Play with color to bring your babies to life. Even using the same color but different tones will enhance a natural look. It's all about the layers, creating depth. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing your next faceup. Have fun with them.
