I love miniatures. They are so cute and bring another level of immersion to bjds. Do you like them? If so what are your favorites?
I've always loved miniatures, long before I discovered bjds. I have a ton of them, some I've even made myself, and they definitely come in handy for doll props. Had a dollhouse when I was little, of course. And that's one of the reasons I loved the original Barbie--the outfits came with really nice accessories.
Yes! Before I discovered BJDs I was deeply into collecting and making miniatures. I created room boxes (dioramas) but never a full doll house due to lack of space. A lot of my minis were stolen during a cross-country move, but I still have a few, and have been thinking of getting back into the hobby lately. There are a lot of good Facebook sties dedicated to miniatures.
I had a dollhouse growing up, as well as a ton of Barbies and other fashion dolls, and a ton of props and furniture for them. For my BJDs, I currently don't have much (long story, but I had 9 room boxes which were cleared out to move then we got majorly delayed in moving and three years later are still here....without my dioramas...), but I loved their dioramas almost as much as I love the dolls. I still have a couch and bed, some bookshelves and a coffee table, and little drinks, snacks and a few props for them. My plan is to build a coffee shop when we finally do get to move. My favorite miniature is my 1/3 scale couch that my parents made for me. My dad used to own a furniture store and did a lot of repairs, so it's made from real couch fabrics with a real wood structure inside. It's basically a real couch, shrunk to doll size and it is amazing.
I really love miniatures! Before I got into BJDs I liked to collect re-ment miniatures as well as some other handmade ones from various places. Those kinds tend to be 1/12 or 1/6 scale, so they're too small for my BJD now, but I still like looking for new miniatures that I can use with the dolls I have now. Nowadays I really like miniature instruments and foods, as well as books; I think they're fun to use in doll photoshoots. I also really like furniture props, but those tend to be quite large, so I'm hesitant to call them "miniatures". Most of the in scale miniatures I have now are small fake weapons and random background props. I'd ideally like to collect enough miniatures to make several room box dioramas for BJD photoshoots, but the cost and space limits are making the project advance really slowly.
I love miniatures but don't have a lot of room for them. I have a lot of Re-Ment or similar brand items because I can use them with my smaller BJD or off-topic dolls. Plus they're cute! I wish I could have had a dollhouse as a kid - I was always envious of the other kids who had them.
Wow that's so neat that he really built a real doll sized couch for you just like a real one! Re ment miniatures are so cute. This is one side of the doll hobby i haven't thought of yet. Now you all have me excited to make a little space for my doll when i get her
I never had a dollhouse as a kid, but I did inherit some dollhouse furniture, and I always thought it was super neat. For some reason I was obsessed with all the doll accessories, but not the dolls themselves. Now that I'm into BJDs, I love acquiring little in-scale things for them. My favorite is when I find antique or vintage items that just happen to fit perfectly (like a tiny glass coke bottle), or when I find weird things (like a cheese grater).
A cheese grater! What an interesting find. Do you have photos of this doll cheese grater? Id love to see haha
Haha, I do, yes! It's an actual working cheese grater, I think I got it at Target or something. This is a 1/3 scale doll's hands (Luts SD65).
@BlackSheep , @Iceymelody , the tiny graters are actually made for nutmeg! But they make great cheese graters for doll photos. Self-saucing by Nadine, on Flickr
Don't get me started on addictive little plastic food. Target has a good supply of stuff for their 18" doll line, Walmart has some too, and the sizes work for 1/4 and 1/3 scale. The stuff in the Real Littles handbags and purses is better suited for 1/6 scale, the purses work for bigger dolls. The surprise shoes in boxes and stuff from Zuru is kind of 1/6 scale, definitely smaller than a lot of the Shopkins. Anything that feels too big is "club store size" but there's a bit of a cuteness to dolls with slightly too big things. Re Ment and similar stuff doesn't have an exact scale, it's more like what will fit in the box, but in all my sets only a very early one was too big in scale to work in my roughly 1/6 scale house. A lot of it is on the almost microscopic side and they make extremely tempting cat toys.
Oh for sure. Tiny things amuse me so much. I have a lot of little things I've kept since I was a kid. Mini Brands became a staple to buy when they finally started showing up here in the stores where I live.

I love these Today i went to the craft store and was very tempted to get an eggs in a frying pan miniature it was so cute
Miniatures is my main hobby. My bjds are tinies that I got to go in my dollhouses. I love combinining the two as it has made me really enjoy my dollhouses more and buying accessories for my dolls makes the dollhouse more fun and interesting. Both are expensive so I am moderate about doing projects and am teaching myself to make things where I can. But i am always tempted by amazingly made miniatures.
I have half of a 1/8-1/12 ish dollhouse diorama full of Rement stuff for my pukifee Multihead dolls but the ones who have ended up living in it are the Azone Pico Neemo 1/12 dolls. I used to love making miniatures out of polymer clay. These days I haven't done that in a while.
My wallet would like it if my polymer clay miniatures skills were better. And I would need to get a working craft oven again.
My love of all things miniature is a big factor in getting into dolls, honestly. I have a lot of tiny things that I collected that aren't necessarily correctly scaled to my dolls, I just love them-- especially tiny food! Dollhouse food always makes me think of The Tale of Two Bad Mice.
Not only do I love them, but I have a miniature Etsy shop. It is an obsession of mine. kind of like me. My miniature work is my favourite hobby. My BJD dolls are my (very expensive) models for my miniature work!
