mini Grommets/Eyelets For Clothes/Shoes?

Aug 17, 2025

    1. Hello!

I have been hunting for decent quality mini grommets for some clothing I'm making for my doll. A lot of the listings I'm finding are using the same photos across multiple websites, and the reviews are equal parts excellent and terrible (citing bad quality and frequent breaking.)

Can anyone recommend sites or sources they trust? Or is this just the nature of working with small thin pieces of metal and it'll be prone to breaking no matter what?

    2. Try ISewForDoll. I recently bought some grommets from them. They have a few scales but mostly sell for fashion doll size (like barbie). I imagine the smaller grommet sizes might work for shoes. I've bought multiple things from them several times.
Now, I have yet to actually use the grommets. But in my experience with people sized ones, yeah, they do kind of tend to sometimes just break or not quite bend right. I've often ended up having to try a few times on some parts. And sometimes they work perfect. It just happens.

    3. Thank you!! :whee:

    4. My two main sources are ISewForDoll and CharleneLuDesign on Etsy. Generally if I need a doll notion and one doesn't have it, the other will. The latter especially has several grommet sizes and tools for them, and I just bought some today.

CLD has faster shipping; ISFD has more fabric. It just depends what you need.

    5. I buy the ones used for papercrafting. I find with any size (even the ones for human size clothing) there's a certain amount that don't work and need removing and redoing, so it could be the bad reviews are from people with unrealistic expetations...

Yes, I know the lacing is wonky. I was in a hurry to get it on the doll to take pictures and didn't notice until later.

    6. I have purchased eyelets from ISewForDoll and when they were owned by the friend of the current owner/seller (ZipperThatDoll, a million years ago), they work just as well as other similarly sized eyelets. They tend to be more expensive than if you were to purchase them from a Chinese seller, but being from the USA, now it's probably not a time for me to be recommending any of those do to taxes for purchases outside the USA. I am not sure how Canada's taxes work, so I won't even begin to suggest anything for you, without saying ISewForDoll is in the USA, for anyone not here. Their eyelets are the same as the ones you would get in bulk from Chinese sellers -- they all break easily all of them, and are tiny so you have to either have a mechanical setter that works for those sizes of eyelets, or do it by hand with the good old eyelet setters meant to be hammed to flatten the eyelet onto the fabric. The barbie sized ones work well for giant dolls as well, as most hardware on clothes for larger BJD tend to be oversized (and look cartoony, IMHO). The ones meant for Barbie are smaller, but not so much so, that it looks ridiculous (just my own personal preference, probably).

The eyelets in all these are the ones meant for "Barbie" clothes. Sadly, I can't recall if these were the 2mm or 3mm versions or which I got from Chinese sellers and which from ZipperThat/IsewFor. They are all the same quality, regardless. I also own the 1mm eyelets, but those are way tinier for "larger" BJD clothes. The blue haired dude is 67cm tall, he has "Barbie" sized buttons on his shirt, the redheaded little brother is 45-ishcm tall, and he has the eyelets in his corset.

They carry zippers with size #2 teeth and pull (I believe they might also carry size #1), which to me is the most important aspect of a zipper when sewing for dolls, for them to look proportionate. You can always cut them shorter or longer, but the size of the teeth, slider and pull makes the whole entire world when it comes to proportions on doll clothes. The only downside of getting zippers for Barbie, is that because they are meant for Barbie, they tend to chop them at lengths under 6", which means they only work for short dolls, or if you're using them for short tops/jackets for giant dolls. I believe they don't carry zippers like this anymore, with the flat pull, but this one I got back when they were still ZipperThatDoll, ran by the previous owner. This is the same 67cm blue-haired dude, but he has gone through major plastic surgeries, throughout the years. Lol! DX

Hope that helps, and good luck!
