Bimong's letter to DOA about Dandelion is here in this thread. DISCUSSION THREAD FOR BIMONG's DEAR DANDELION Bimong Dandelion Discussion part 1: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?248839-Bimong-Dandelion-Discussion-part-1
Another masterpiece with that look of innocence... What size is Dandelion? Is she the same size as classic Narae or is she smaller?
She's 38cm... so about 2 inches shorter than Narae. I think she'd make Narae the most perfect little sister! I am also a lifelong collector of traditional Asian dolls, and Dandelion seems like the most beautiful combination of modern doll art blended with the serene charm of traditional Asian dolls. I always hoped Bimong would one day let us have her... and now he has. What a sweet man.
Her measurements are similar to the Kish 14 inch Chrysalis dolls, lots of seamstresses are making clothes for those dolls right now.
Here are measurements for Kish Lark: Chest 7 7/8, waist 7 1/4, hips 8 5/8, neck 4 1/8, shoulder joint to wrist 6, wrist 2 1/8, inseam 6, foot 2 1/2 L.x 1 wide. length back neck to back of knee 8. All measurments are in inches. I no longer have the doll (bought her to steal her dress) so those were the only measurements I took.
She is soooo adorable! Even years later I am still enchanted by my original Narin, my only MSD-sized doll to date, and I think Dandelion would make the PERFECT little sister for him. Her detail is absolutely amazing! Bimong is a GENIUS!
She is so real. She looks so much like those very realistic porcelain BJD by Japanese artists and scrulpters. She is pulling my heartstring. If only she was a little smaller
different head size ...well that sorts that out .well it has to be done ...for my wigs ..you see .were is my credit card LOL Is there a picture of her body any place ? ...I would like to see the torso ...and joints if possible
D'you know Tinybear, I really need an excuse like wigs... what can I make that means I HAVE to buy a doll I asked in the news thread for a pic of Dandelion's body and joints and Catrina said that she will ask Mr Bimong for one
How exciting Carrie, congratulations!!! Maybe when you've finished measuring her for wigs, I can borrow her off you Not sure about resin choice, will French go too yellow, or won't that matter with her being oriental in looks...
The new French resin is supposed to be UV protected isnt it ? I did have an old Narea ..and she did go very yellow ...but she was still hauntingly beautiful and the yellowing didnt make her any less to me ...or to the lady who bought her from me ....I do wish I still had her ..but I always wanted a classic face ...so that may be on my list for next year Classic Narea ...I get more e.mails from my FLikr asking me what type of doll my Narea was than any other hopeing Dandilion will fill the gap left
i am pretty sure it is 7-8. i think catrina posted in the news post for dandelion that her exact size was something like 7.25?
Yes, it's 7.25, I just checked. I won't have time to make Dandelion any clothes before she gets here, I'm too swamped with work. Does anyone have any ideas what clothes I could get that may come close to fitting Dandelion? I have no problems doing a little alteration. I'm clueless on what might fit, but not look too mature...
my Viola Im not sure of her look yet ..I want her dress her in the dress I ordered for her ..then I will make up my mind but it hasn't come yet...so she isnt finished I gave her a look like Fleur ..but Im not sure of this one yet she is awesome
I forgot to add ...her head is bigger than Narea .and she dose take 12mm eyes which Im thrilled about ,I love this size for my Narea/Unoa and Moona ..so I have lots LOL
yes ...she is more MSD proportions than Narea .. dresses may be a little long ..but I think it will depend on the style , Tops should be fine
She's here and I love her. Weather here is definately not compatable to face painting--cold windy and humid! But I dressed her anyway and gave her new eyes and here she is:
Here is my little Kyoko, which means "shining lake". I don't think I can tell you how wonderful she is...I love so much! She is every inch the little girl I'd hoped for. I think the face is very adaptable, and could represent an older girl, too. In person she's breathtaking, I can't seem to get my photos to show just how special she is. Kyoko is in pinky white matt resin. Her painting is very delicate, I'm so pleased with her!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!! More photos in the gallery... http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4103837#post4103837
i wanted to post this Christmas Eve ...but just ran out of time Congratulations all the new dandilions home for the Holidays Viola in her new dress love these shoes
Carrie, if you get some Kips disks from Volks those things work wonders for the bobble head problem. Can someone tell me what is the difference between the Matte Resin and the old French Resin?
Thank you Carrie (ps-I am drooling over your Viola!). And Sharon, the matte resin is the urethane resin that we are used to for most dolls. It still yellows, but not as quickly as the more translucent French Resin, although I would love to know if the UV protect is working well for the French Resin. Does anyone have any real life experience with the UV protect?
on the posing thing: i really like how this girl poses. she stands so well. she does seem to have an issue with the head, and i do have to reposition her torso so she is more human like when she sits. but over all way easier to pose then my 60 cm DOT girl. resin: my girl is UV cut french resin, oriental. but i think that most people would figure that she had yellowed severly. my camera did not catch this when i took pics of her. i am really love the look of french resin but the color changing thing frightened me. these one do have the UV cut, but i figured that if i was going to get a 'darker' skin tone for the doll then the french is fine. but if you are considering a paler look for your girl i would have to suggest polyurethane matte resin instead. unless you plan to coat with UV protectant. which is what i am going to be doing anyways. hope that helped?
What I really want to know is if the "matte" resin is translucent like the French. The yellowing doesn't actually bother me.
What is the color difference between oriental resin and the golden beige resins? Is one darker or a different tone than the other, or more yellow? I couldn't find a color comaprison between golden beige and the oriental resins, could someone point it out to me if it is there?
Here is a straight on shot of my Kyoko's head as requested... and another because I can't get enough of her! Spoiler: pic 2 I find it's really hard to capture her in photos, she seems flatter in the photos to me than she does in real life... also she seems to have a more childlike look, with more roundness to the lower cheeks and jawline that you don't see well in the pix. Maybe I'm crazy? Also, her painting is very delicate, I asked for a pale face-up and got that. She is gently shaded around her face with a light pink color that doesn't pick up with my camera in most of the photos. So beautiful IRL! Posing, I totally agree with tinybear. My girl's head poses okay though, she prefers to tilt it sideways but I can keep it straight without a problem. The sitting issue is the same for mine. Kyoko is in pinky white matt resin, there's no translucency which you get with the gorgeous French resin. I adore French resin but it would kill me to have her yellow prematurely, so I went with the matt resin. That being said, I love the matt resin, it's a creamy, lovely consistency, beautiful quality and weight. This is an art doll, as far as I'm concerned. She's realistic but not overly so, her hands are absolutely beautiful and her expression is deep and soulful. I literally can't stop staring at her.
well she dosnt creep me out now Viola and Fleur I much happier with her,I want to bob ,Viola`s hair as Fleur is closer to the camera .. they look more like each other Fleur is smaller , more slender ,although taller Viola is the same height sat down ..but her legs are much shorter the picture is a bit misleading Violla is amazingly beautiful ...but I I keep looking at her ...and wishing she were on a body like Narea I am very very torn at the momment ... I think she has the most beautiful perfect face ...and she has got a beautiful sculpted perfect childs body ..but I think its that , that I cant take to ..I do love the slender more mature body and I really dont know what to do
i've been playing around with various looks for Junko, i wanted to get past the sweet girly look that kept coming to mind, so i let her choose her own outfit, this is what she picked. ( i have a few pics in the gallery as well, more of same) has anyone resolved the head "pop" situation, i find it very difficult to keep her head straight. her waist pops a lot as well, oh well, her cuteness makes up for it.
Miss Ally - your Dandelion is amazing, what a cute modern girl, I can hardly believe it's the same sculpt!!! Gorgeous
Miss Ally, Junko looks SO cute like that, *loves her with the violin*. It's amazing how versatile this pretty girl can be. sfhope, wow, such a nice clear picture of the oriental FR! She is gorgeous in that skin tone. Can't wait to see more of her, congratulations!
hoshinokachi264 your girl is amazing - so sultry and mature. Love the eyebrows! My daughter's Dandelion, Christabel wears 12mm eyes (these are a pale gray/yellow Ruddy Peach)and a 6/7 wig (Bravotte mohair)that was a bit too large for the Yo SDs. Here is a shot from this month's meetup. My hands were shaking from caffeine so the focus is a bit soft.
Oh my, Sheri and Hoshinokachi, your girls are beautiful and so different from each other and the way I could ever imagine Dandelion to look. I can only say--post more pictures for me!
What she said!!!!! Hoshinokachi, oh my. I gasped out loud when I saw your photos. Shari your girl is lovely, and the photo looks intentional, soft focus, very cool.
Oh Many thanks you two. I gave her to my dear daughter Lirin for Christmas. Turns out Christmas is a good day for faceups! Here is a holiday snapshot. Lirin is very busy with work deadlines (assistant on a huge felting project) at the moment and hasn't been able to give Christabel the photo shoot she really wants to with the set and studio lights. But she adores this amazing doll and Christabel has a place of honor on the pillow beside Lirin.
aw gee thanks! yea the only other photos i have of her are in the gallery post with my other doll. but once i get some more time i am planning on doing another photoshoot of her so that you can see more of her outfit. thankyou guys a lot! Sheri your girl is super cute! i love her pouty little face. both hair styles match her so well too.
You guys have absolutely sold me, I have to have this girl! Here's my other question, what is the "Oriental" skintone like? What is the difference between that and the Golden?
Stella, mine is pinky white so I can't give you much detail on the other colors... but there are pix in this thread of the Oriental. My guess is the golden will be more yellow, at least that's the way Catrina from Dollfair described it once. hoshinokachi, what a wonderful job you've done, I know you've put a lot of work into your Dandelion. She's amazing. Sheri, I'm delighted to see Lirin's Christibell again. She looks beautiful as ever... Who made the lovely sweater? I have a lot of dolls, but this one is really special to me for a lot of reasons. She's really beautiful but has a deep sense of soul to her, IMO.
Stella, i have the Oriental matte urethane, it's not very yellow at all IMO it just looks like a "yellow" NS tone, as compared to a "pink" NS tone, you can see her photo a few posts back.
thankyou! aw toydogz4 your girl is so sweet looking! i have the oriental french resin and next to my NS DOD she looks really yellow. but when she is sitting by herself she does not look so yellow to me. i think that toydogz4 explained it well that the oriental is like a creamy buttermilk kinda color. it's a sweet sunkissed look. kinda right between the golden beige and pinky NS, i am guessing on that one since i don't have the other skin tones to compare to.
Oh my she is wonderful!!! This seems like a doll that Raven would adore, but alas, no elf ears. It sounds like she worked some real magic on your girl. Is she wearing 12mm eyes? Love her outfit so much!! Winternight, Lirin's Christabel is wearing the bolero sweater that is part of a Volks MSD outfit from a few Dolpas ago. Some of the MSD stuff fits just great. The slim stuff may not though as she is so youthful that she has very little waistline. Stella Maris Christabel is Oriental french resin. She has a lovely warm tone and very nice translucence. I am hoping the UV additives will save her from too much yellowing. Lirin has a WS french resin Narsha who is quite yellowed. Not sure of her age, being her 3rd owner. The 2 of them do look very nice together. (adds another request to the photo session project).
My Lixue is oriental matte urethane too, but I would actually say it IS rather yellow. But not unpleasant at all, it's a lovely buttermilk colour that photographs beautifully.
Hmm, my Dandelion is Oriental matte as well, but I don't find her very yellow at all, more of a creamy tone. Whatever you all it, the color is lovely, I adore my girl.
Thanks to a little birdie (named toydogz) for this information... Dandelion wears the Kish 14" Chrysalis clothes and shoes. I'm doomed now. But at least I'll go happily.
OK, update, I changed my order to Oriental resin because Joan at Dollfair told me that they made that color just for Dandelion. So, who am I to argue. Also I really did not want her to look "dead". Not that I mind that, for many of my other kids, just not her. Are 14mm eyes best for her?
Weee she is home! Had just enough time on lunch hour to run to post office, get her, take her home, open box up, have quick squeee moment and then run back here to work I do see what you all mean by the head thing...any way to fix it ? If I use an S hook will that help at all as opposed to the silver bar? Awww but her face...even without a faceup you can SEE what a wonderful face sculpt she has!
. Has anyone else noticed their default wig staining the head??? I took Kyoko's wig off for the first time today, and popped on a new gorgeous Leeke heat resistant one. I came back two hours later and took the wig off and there was a stain on her pretty head. Now I don't know whether there's a problem with the new wig or the old one, since I took the default wig off in a semi-dark room and didn't notice the stain then. Maybe someone could check your dolls for staining, if you have the default wig on. I'm afraid to put anything back on her now! Oh, I miss the city!*sigh* Stella, Her eyes are 12mm. Sorry to make you wait, things have been a little hectic here with the flu running thru the house. Zenna, congratulations, she sounds wonderful!
*raises hand* The default wig stained my Lixue's head. But I don't mind too much, being as she wears a wig all the time anyway.
**squeee* the dresses that I bought for her arrived today!!! Here is the thread with some pictures of my sweetie http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=275328
It is such a treat to see the many faces and moods of the amazing Dandelion. She is such a satistying doll. I ordered her for my daughter's Christmas gift in oriental French Resin and she is so breathtakingly alive!! Lirin and I went to a wonderful meetup this week and Christabel had a lovely time meeting new friends. The Volks MSD outfit called Gretel fits her great except for the necklet which was a bit too tight to fasten. A little rest time... And a romantic portrait too. Spoiler: romantic If you'd like to see the rest of the copious amounts of meetup pictures here is the link... Lirin's photos are towards the bottom of the page. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276335
Here is a picture of my Kaiko...I tried to do a lighter face up on her that will hold over until I can get her to *Meee*
Here are my first pictures of Li-Hua, which means pear blossom I think. She wore her default wig for a minute, then I wanted to strech out her new Tinybear one. I can't get over how lovely she is, she is everything I love about Narae, without any of the things I don't love. Her maturity, the intelligence in her face and wow! her hands are amazing. She is Oriental French Resin.
Well, she turned out to be a precocious pre-teen, little Li-Hua. Here are a couple crappy snaps of her new very red faceup, she's playacting some kind of character. I know, I know she was supposed to be natural, and she was I swear, and her faceup was so sweet, but then I noticed a little mark in it, and well, something happened. Yeah, that's it.
LOL, she' s very naughty. Well today I was feeling empowered as I managed to get my daughter to wear a cute dress for picture day, so Li-Hua got a new faceup. Of course after I downloaded these photos I noticed her eyelash was crooked. Ooof. Annoying. Hope you like her!
Winternight, you are the one I was listening to the most when I first thought of getting Dandelion. I just love your doll so much and I know you ordered the pinky white matte resin which I was thinking of getting but only in French since that is the only kind of resin they have right now. I did order the Oriental colour because I love the prototype of Dandelion so much I just decided to go with that look. I also had thought of getting the lighter coloured lips like yours but I just basically tossed a coin because I like both looks. I am glad to hear you are pleased with how they did it. That was reassuring. I haven't heard of anyone that has gone with the darker colours like the pictures but I did go with that look and when she finally comes I will try to post pictures. I hope I can figure out how to do it. One other thing, will Doll Heart clothes fit? Her chest seems very wide.
Shashy, her chest is not too wide, if you are talking about Dollheart MSD clothes. However remember that she is short. I have my girl in an MSD dress now that would be above the knee on an MSD, and it is mid calf on Li-Hua. I think it looks just fine ! It' s just a different look.
