This is posted on the Migi site "We are informing you very sad news. We found that pirates copies of Migidoll have been selling in the second hand market. Two copied heads was sent to us, and we are very convinced that they are very pirates ones. We will make some ways to prevent dolls from being copied in the future. We can trace all of doll heads sold in the past by checking Paypal history, messages in the site, and e-mails which are all saved. When you have any second hand Migidoll, you can let us know who was the previous owner. So that we can tell you if it is real or pirate. Hope for no other victims...;; " Just to be aware...
Their suggestions are ok, if a lot of hassle, but what if you're buying from the head's third owner who can't remember who they bought it from? Or who bought it from someone is no longer on the board and used a different name to order? I would also like to know where these heads were being sold
I just did a quick search on taobao for Migi here: http://s.taobao.com/search?q=migi&commend=all&ssid=s5-e&sort=price-desc there's a chance someone is bootlegging them and selling them there. I can't tell by looking myself but it's worth sending Migi Doll the link if they want to look through the sellers.
for username " 8023 change ", it's a designated agent, people could order the head on group here when Migi release the head, however, it's not for sale for the moment, it's mostly a pre-order banner or ads, to let people know they could do group order here for sharing the shipping fee or something. If you have any question, maybe you could send them a mail for asking about it. Also a lot of head down there are for showing the make-up, not for sale. Taobao is kindly like a eBay, you can purchase goods and services online, that's all. If something doesn't make sense, it's because of my english...>_____<
This really sucks but tbh I'm surprised it's taken this long. Migi is pretty popular so it was only a matter of time, unfortunately. I'm just glad I already have who I want! But I do not have any kind of certificate for either of them, even the one I bought straight from her in 2008.
I can read this Taobao site. It doesn't seem to be selling bootlegs. They help people buy from Migi or when Migi opens they buy a lot and then sell later like a dealer. It is not recasted. It says they are official dealer that is recognized by Migidoll. Migi授权代理 (that is what this line means) But only Migidoll can confirm this. If Migi does not confirm it, then they cannot say they are official dealer and is questionable. I think I do have seen migi heads bootlegs on Taobao. I don't use Taobao at all. This is not a surprise to me. I always buy from Migidoll directly anyway and all of us should do it and never buy from Taobao (too many questions about authenticity on TB and I hate how TB doesn't do anything about bootleg items they do not care, they just want to make money) And if the seller doesn't list the fake heads by their official name like Migidoll Yuri etc., you guys will never find it by using search engine. And I do know that some of them sell them like this....as long as they can sell something they just sell, sometimes they do not even try to pass them off as official items.
Agree with Izam. Just don't buy from TB. But somehow, I'm scared that the heads would be sold elsewhere, like on Ebay or even in the MP, regardless of whether the sellers know about the authenticity or not. My Ryu is from 2008, he doesn't have any number, headplate, or certificate. I bought a Yuri before in 2009 and still no certificate at the time. (_ _) And it was a long time ago, I wonder if even Migi still has the list of owners. With the new kind of head (Shion, with faceplate instead of just a head), maybe they will be able to distinguish the fake from the real ones. >.> I wonder if Migi will recreate all their previous dolls like Shion, too? They really should start making certificates and headplates... (_ _) They're getting too big to be ignored by pirate companies.
I ordered my Ryu head through a group order back in 2009 and I also don't have a COA, however, Migi does say they have records for all sales, so as long as someone remembers who they did a group order with, etc. I think they will be fine. I think it is wonderful of Migi to do this. They could just say "good luck" and let it go. Instead they not only let everyone know about the piracy, but also give us a way to authenticate our purchases.
Are there specific skin tones that the bootlegs are being cast in? The newer Migi's are being cast in their own skin tones instead of Volks and Leeke correct? Perhaps that would help narrow the field of possible bootlegs? I, myself, bought a Miho head second-hand on ebay. The user is also on DoA, but it would be nice to have him checked. He's a Volks NS 08, wondering if the bootlegs are being cast in those tones though.
I don't think we need to panic yet and it is impossible to determine authenticity by resin color since there's been so many batches already and every batch is a different color and resin does yellow. Just beware of future purchase. I haven't purchased from Migi in a long time and none of my older migidoll heads has plate or anything, back then they did not have such a thing anyway. Just beware of future purchase. I wonder how come 2 heads were send to them for them to discover this. Perhaps from a face-up artist who received heads for commission and thought the heads were odd? maybe I need to stop speculating. :S
I have two Migidoll heads (a Miho and a Ryu), and I ordered them directly from Migidoll. Neither came with a plate in the back of the head. Are more recent heads coming with identification plates?
Most dolls can't be easily identified as real or bootlegged... particularly when you're buying on-line. You basically have to trust the seller. If they are a seller here and have good feedback, hopefully they aren't going to be lying about where they got the doll from. But it's good to ask about where dolls are purchased from when anyone is buying on the Marketplace. Particularly if it's known that there may be bootlegs out there. People selling dolls should try and keep their own records about who they bought from, just to make sure there is some sort of provenance. Most of these dolls are worth a significant amount of money... even heads for $100 aren't exactly cheap. Hopefully there will be some ways for people to check to see if a doll is the real thing or a copy... We'll have to wait and see about that.
I wonder whether the restricted access to Migi dolls has been prompting bootleggers to jump in. I suspect that pirating Migi heads will be less appealling when they have their new site set up, as one will be able to order a head whenever one wants, rather than having the frustration of waiting for an order period. Has anyone asked Migi about the Taobao listing? If not, I will email them with it.
People who buy bootlegs knowing that it is a bootleg, are the people who doesn't care that it is not authentic. It's not about being hard to get or not. People like that always exist. And bootleggers are there to make quick money so....recasting anything that they think will sell, they will do it. That is their mentality.
This is true, but I am working on the assumption that it is not obvious that the current heads were bootlegged. I may be wrong.
A new release will take time for bootlegs to appear....that is usually the case. If it's an existing release....that is a different story.
I have purchased a Migidoll Yuri in early 2009, and I am sad about this news. I am not surprised, though, if it's popular and quite rare to get bootlegging is on the way. I believe that '09 heads have some kind of signature inside the back cap, maybe just the name of the sculpt. But you can't tell if it's original or not by this. I have bought my head directly from Migidoll, and I will continue to do so in order to avoid problems. If there is someone still doubtful about the authenticity of a MG head currently on sale, I would suggest to wait more and get it directly from Migi. I am happy to see that Migi is going to help. Perhaps, second hand buyers can ask for a screencap of the Paypal receipt from the first owner. =)
The incident migi talking is about two secondhand ryu heads sold in China. It was discussed on DZ forum sometime ago. The seller (a face up artist) sold the two heads to one of the forum members as authentic heads, however the two heads appeared to be quite faulty. So the buyer asked a lot of other members on the forum for authentication but the seller insisted that the two heads are authentic. The buyer ended by sending the two heads to migi for verification and that's how migi knows about the two pirated heads.
