might have gotten a little carried away (new pics - 9/21 - body work)

    1. back from the conference - and instead of working on tiny heads, got sidetracked on a rather large one. I think he would be perhaps 1/2 life size when done.... (hmmm, head is about 5" tall, 8 heads high would be 40" - if 1/2 scale that would put him at 80" or 6'8" I think - kind of tall.....) at the moment he is all premier paper/stone clay with 22mm glass eyes. Here are pics of him beside a 3 sisters sd10 head for comparison...

    3. Wow, that's REALLY awesome!! I'd love to see him completed . . . a lot of the Asian art-dolls are closer to 1/2 size than 1/3 size, and they're really striking . . he'd be awesome on just a torso sculpt, too . . . or anything else that you come up with, given that I love your awesome bug-bodied sphinx-y reindeer-antlered creations!

    7. I decided part of the strange expression is his nose just being too short, so i'm working on that - thank you for the nice comment on Oni's tattoo - I always liked it, but it usually photographs looking kind of like a bruised eye...

      going to go ahead and make a torso for him, and decide from there where he is going to go.

    13. Oh, wow, this is a very nice head sculpt. I am completely in love with the expression and features... he seems very familiar, did you base him off of anything?

      The nuances of the expression are excellent... he seems able to be mischievious, a grinning big brother, a safe friendly person, a 'buddy', and yet also serious and maybe even a bit sad depending on the angle.

      I am willing to bet that he is extremely personable in person.

    17. not feeling terribly enthused by that beginning torso armature I was working on, so I let myself get sidetracked and made him an articulated, ball jointed hand.

      (ok - it would be a ball jointed hand if I'd strung it on elastic, but since its a prototype and I wanted it to be very poseable - I strung it on wires instead)

      not terribly pleased with how it looks, but it works pretty well. took all week though - blech! oh well - maybe the next one will go faster

    22. Wow. He looks amazing. His face is beautiful, very full of personality and character, you can tell that he's a bit miscivious, but all around a good guy you can count on.
      As for the hand: Sweeeeeeet >D It's looking pretty awesome for a prototype. I can't draw or sculpt hands very well, so you've defenately got my respect.
      I can't wait to see him finished. :)

    23. Why am I NOT surprised to come back and find that you've come up with an articulated hand? !!! You are amazing. I swear to GOD :D You ROCK, Pat!! The head is delightful. Your sculpts have such deep and complex personalities. You must love to people watch- that's the only way to explain how well you put across all the nuances of expression. I do expect to hear him say "Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!" (Yule Brinner from 'The King and I'). Does he have a name?

    24. ok, my daughter Darkmothflame had to go showoff and create this exquisite faceup for her elf el girl and make me feel all inadequate and underachieving. (she posted pics up in the gallery if you want to see what I have to try to live up. sheesh. how unfilial to be a better artist than her poor old white haired mom..... you should offer your mom a free faceup on the doll of her choice, dear...... as an apology --- and for giving her those white hairs!..... right, an apology - that sounds pretty good. i'll go try that on her now.......)

      anyway....

      so i'm posting pics of this poor boy's body in progress to try to boot myself into working on him more.

      going to be carving back his shoulders to eliminate the overhang, and build up his hips a bit more....

      and a pic beside Calev (luts shiwoo elf for size comparison....)

      decided to go with the 2 part body for stringing ease (I hope) - he has fairly good bending forward backward motion, and some limited twist side to side - I think his back needs to be filled out a bit more --- and his second hand is in progress, though now they look kind of large for him. going to have to do his arms and see how they look.

      Guide - I would love to cast him in resin, but I don't have the budget for it. someday maybe...

      < grin > hey Baakay --- snork! it gets worse! Darkmothflame is an incredible illustrator, and the boychild is a 3d animator, in school at the SF Academy of Art - can we say, mom is a little jealous?????
      Golemgirl owns another direction I would have loved to explore - she is aiming towards a doctorate in molecular biology.

      ah well - its pretty cool to have neat kids, isn't it?

      hey guys - sorry for long time, no update.... I got invited to show some of my figures at a gallery show in NYC and have spent the last 3 months working on that - I'm back now, had a great time ( grew up in little mill town in Oregon, not used to lots of people - thought i would hate NYC - but I was wrong - very, very cool place - lots to see and some very nice people - sold my dolls, as soon as they get shipped off I need to get back to work here)

      have gotten slightly sidetracked - will be posting pics soon of a bit of a giggle - but it demands jointed hands - so going to make some sd size hands like this too....

      Darkmothflame is kicking me to get this guy done, so hopefully i'll have some more pics to post soon.

      thanks for all the great comments..... I see that Nobility Doll beat me to the jointed penis - sigh. oh well <grin>

    60. His face is amazing and it has so much personality. He totally has different moods depending on what angle you are shooting from. I love his lips and the jointed hand idea seems to be working well for you too. He's just coming along wonderfully and I wish I'd seen this earlier. :kitty2
