Mid Europe based photographer

Dec 13, 2022

    1. Hello,

Always liked BJDs, never believed I personally could come even close to owning one or a few. But now situation is changing and I happily jump over from daydreaming to active planning phase. Retiring mid next year and moving from high priced capital city to a nice calm village. This change will give me both free time and fun money. My points of attachment are in Luxembourg, England/Wales, Latvia, and somewhat Warsaw (Poland). Anybody from those places here?

My husband and I (and the dog too) travel a lot and have plans to cover most of Europe. We are interested in stone age monuments, gothic architecture, old battlefields, events like Steampunk, reenactments, tall ships, and we plan our travels to follow those. We have appropriate outfits for the events, either full costumes or at least not sticking out like a sore thumb.

Learned sewing 3 full years, can knit, crochet, embroidery. One of the reasons I want the doll is to make their clothes to enjoy both the result and the process. I'm a part time photographer, like crystal ball photography, and recently started to edit videos. Again the doll fits in. Maybe there will be stop motion videos with the doll, who knows.

Daydreaming was easy, all dolls were mine, all parts and skin tones fit any combination... The perfect doll I want most likely is going to be a hybrid. The bodies I like don't have heads I like and the other way round.

He will be a ballet dancer in his 20ies, up to 70 cm tall, lean and strong, just like his human family looking Northern European, fair skin, red(-ish) hair, grey eyes, mischievous, artistic mindset, likes travelling and modelling for photos, including crazy projects. Mostly dressing like any modern guy, will have clothing for events and for photo shoots, and one of his outfits must be a proper Scottish kilt set detailed after my husband's parade uniform.

My husband's doll will be a lady, but this idea still needs some fine tuning before it can be laid out. Nominally she will be his but really it means I get 2 dolls, win win.

      With love, AllSmokeAndMirrors

    2. Hello and welcome to this website and the BJD hobby!

It sounds like you are well set up for doing many fun and creative things for your new dolls : ) and having your spouse wanting a doll as well is so cool.

Getting a hybrid doll together is a lot of research and sometimes a little luck, but the results can be really good and worth the time and effort. I highly recommend looking at some the discussion threads when you get an idea of what dollmakers/companies you might be interested in, there's a wealth of information of going back years.

Welcome again and wishes for good travels and good research!

    3. Thanks!
Yes, I know, he is 1 in 8 billion, took me 50 years to find him.
I really hope so. For the research - that's why I came here, the best place to find stuff about bjd. And safe place too, with the strict policies.
Have an eye on Granado Adagio 70 body and Iple House Eric head. Not set in stone but that would be the first combo to explore.
