Wigs Merino Roving for wig making?

Aug 16, 2023

    1. hello, i recently got some merino yarn roving off etsy to make a wig...forgetting that most people use acrylic yarn for wigs like this :sweat Can I still use this fiber for making a wig? Do you think it will be safe to straighten?

    2. I don't see why it wouldn't be safe to straighten, its basically hair, though since it's been carded, it should already be pretty straight anyway.

I don't know how long the individual fibres are, which is what would make it suitable for wigs, I think.

    3. I've attempted this before and there's a couple issues I found. The first is that roving yawn doesn't really have a staple length. When brushed into wefts, you'll get a mix of 2"-4" pieces depening on fiber. So you can't really get very long wefts from it unfortunately. Another issue is what specifically morino roving is made of as it's a type of wool. When brushed into wefts, wool goes super duper fluffy. I actually want to make an afro wig out of that fiber some day. Ultimately the fiber can be used, but you are very limited to what style of wigs it can be used for. For refence, 100% acrylic yarn is popular due to it having a 5-6" staple length and becoming relatively flat once wefted, or it can be straightened fairly easily.
