Meme: Some confession sharing?

Jan 19, 2015

    1. @BratifulDragon lmfao you have stated my confession word for word.
Why is it that I can shell out the money for a new doll no regrets there, but clothes, accessories, shoes I hesitate to buy, so my girls are all mostly shoeless, with no pants! :doh Why can I justify a new doll that cost more, but oh no 80$ for 4 clothing pieces is too much. Send help. Lol

    3. When I got one of my very first dolls (I think she was the 3rd), I had her delivered to work. I was sitting at a counter in the back room to take her out of the box, and just as her foot cleared the padded bag, I dropped her. She smacked her face on the edge of the counter and took a big chunk out of the tip of her nose! I was so heartbroken!!

Thankfully, I had a friend who was able to sand her down, and she ended up looking better than new, but my blood ran cold when I heard that thud.

    4. Sometimes I feel like I have too many dolls... but I just can't bear to part with the ones I have... Hm. They can stay for now, if they make me happy.

    5. I let a friend borrow two of my dolls when they were brand new. While she had them her sister came over while she was at work and let her kids into my friends closed room where they played with, dropped and damaged the dolls, mostly scratches on the blushing but one had a dented nose and a broken ear. My friend was so guilty she bought a replacement head to replace the one with the broken ear.
It took a full year for the replacement head to arrive and my friend came to drop it off at my house but I didn't answer the door as I was out in the backyard and didn't hear so she hid the box with the head under my dog's pet mat on the front porch because she didn't want it to get stolen.
I didn't get the message from her telling me where the head was until hours later and by that point several people had come in and out that way, the box was squashed. The head inside had a broken ear on the same side, in exactly the same place as the one she bought it to replace. I didn't have the heart to tell her.
To this day I don't know if the head was broken in transit or someone stepped on it here before I got the message. And to this day I have to photograph that doll with her wig covering up her broken ear.

    6. Here's one of my confessions:

So—I decided to do a full body blush on two of my boys once, junk and all. Well...when the sealant started chipping on their adjustable junk, I ended up saying screw it—I'm going to stick them in a dye vat and add color that way. Well—those two boys had a set of those bits each, and all of them ended up taking a dip in the dye vat as well. I had so much fun (and laughs) with going through with it, I couldn't help sending a photo of the end result of them to my mom.:XD:

On the subject of dyeing—I've gotten a bit obsessed with the concept. One of my girls got a full body dye treatment to achieve a darker color, and I've got plans to change the color on at least one or two others. I've also gotten rather enthused with taking bland clothing pieces from my crew's wardrobe and sticking them in the dye vat. It's resulted in some cool effects on a few pieces.

    7. I love (most) of my dolls a ton but they just sit on the shelf in my closet.... mostly because three out of five are just heads XD

I also got a Mirodoll Lili who I unfotunetly am really not a fan of.... but it does mean I have a doll I can mod and experiment on :mwahaha

    8. I finally order my boy Leaph a body after owning him in a floating head status for 14 years. However, I just bought 3 more heads in the past three days because apparently I need more floating heads in my life.

    9. When I’m looking for a new girl doll to buy, I find all a bit weird... I like the ones from 2013... 2014... but most of them are discontinued.

And now, when I finally find one that I like. I see the cover photo and I say:

Uh, this is a really pretty girl.
And then the description says Boy...

All the “girl” looking dolls I like, are Boys....

So I finally bought a Boy head and a girl body.
And I think the head is a bit oversized...

    10. I am actually kinda ashamed of my first doll so much that I don't post any pictures of her. She is a Mirodoll and her face is cute but her hands and body are so not posable. I just have her because she was my first BJD.

    14. I love blank dolls and will probably always keep 1-2 of mine in an unpainted state. Once I commit to painting them, I feel like they lose all their potential to ‘be anything’ and then are locked into one look. But I can look at a blank sculpt and see endless possibilities.

    17. I'm getting a doll in the mail on Thursday that I'm stupid excited for. It's not even mine. I finally convinced my sister to join the dark side and buy a BJD (she's been trying to sculpt her own BJD for ages and I kept telling her that she just needs to buy one of her own so she can see them and how they work), and she's having it shipped to me so I can do faceup, bodyblush, and wig for her. I know I'm going to fall in love with this doll and I'm torn between hoping my sister will fall deep into the hobby with me and buy more dolls for us to photograph and design together, and hoping that she decides BJDs aren't for her and gives me the doll she just bought >~>' <~<'

    24. My confession is that I don't like the newer luts line....everyone is going towards smaller slightly more realistic heads--and the shoulders are very...angular???

like- compared to the new little monica body the sharp elbows are balanced by the hips, but luts went full dorito.

small disclaimer, I still love their new sculpts, I'm just sad that I'll probably have a cow over the head size difference. (so it's a me problem)

    27. I lied about the cost of my doll to my brothers when they asked. And specifically the one full-set I ordered with outfit, fantasy parts, face-up and everything. The general "basic" price seems to be their "ok, fair enough." limit. If they ever found out this one doll is the price of a gaming super computer, there would be a hobby-turf-war among us XD

    28. The right wig can make the difference between ":aheartbeayou are my heart and soul, absolutely perfect, my favorite doll :aheartbea" and "get your goofy-looking ass listed on the market asap:barf".

And sometimes, I can spend $50+ on a "high quality" wig that comes in looking like roadkill, but the perfect one is something I slap together with wool and hot glue in an hour or order off AliExpress for $9. You just never know. And that's the most frustrating part of wig shopping!

    29. HA HA . . . I can relate! In 2011 I acquired an unpainted head as a free gift with doll purchase. He remained a blank floating head until a couple of years ago. I finally got him a faceup. But I am still trying to get his original body, with no luck. In the meantime he is a hybrid with a random body. AND just like you, I now have 3 more floating heads which will probably remain that way for another 10 years.

    30. I confess I have a weird love/hate relationship with Bobobie Mei. I bought a white skinned Mei way back in 2012 because I thought I wanted an elf doll. My only other MSD was a Dreaming Doll Misora. Well, for some reason Mei and Misora never looked compatible with each other. I also realized I did not like the white skin. All my other dolls were normal skin. Mei looked out of place. So I sold her.

But a few years later I was seeing what everyone else was doing with their Mei, and was sorry I'd sold mine. So I bought her again, only this time I got her in light tan because she was in stock at Denver Doll and I could get her right away if I bought from stock. Well, needless to say, I regretted getting her in tan. I just could not get used to her in that color. So I put her up for sale. She sat on Marketplace for a couple of years, but didn't sell. I figured I was meant to keep her.

Ok, so since I decided to keep Mei, I needed to get her a faceup (she was blank). But I couldn't decide on what kind of faceup. I also tried a bunch of wigs and outfits on her, and nothing looked right. Once again I could not bond with her. Soooo . . . back onto the Marketplace she went. I also listed her on several facebook sites. One person on FB said she would buy her, but then changed her mind after paying for her, so I had to issue a refund. Fate was trying to tell me something. I un-listed her and decided once more to keep her.

So that's where Mei and I stand now. No more trying to sell her. And as luck would have it, while browsing etsy this week I found the perfect outfit and perfect wig for Mei. After a long 10 years, I think she and I have finally come to an understanding and she is here to stay. Next payday I'm going to get her a faceup FINALLY. Poor kid.

    31. New Confession: I thought I was careful. I thought all of my dolls were safe from the sun and the windows.
They were not. A couple of yellowed oddly, and I am sad.
Cue frantic covering of dolls, moving them around, and making extra-extra sure they aren't in sunlight.

Oop, confession #2: I used to leave my dolls in clothes and shoes. I was doing my cleaning (I like to undress them, wipe them down, and redress them), and some of those shoes are not meant to remain on doll feet. I now have some stained toesies. Shoes went into trash. More socks were put on feet. Everyone else is barefoot.

The good news is, the stained/oddly yellowed dolls aren't going anywhere (all keepers). It's weirdly off-putting looking at all these bare feet surrounding me, though.

Was the lining on those shoes black? I have shoes with light colored lining and feel pretty safe keeping them on the dolls, with socks on (I still check periodically). Am I getting into a false sense of security?

My confession is that I've run out of space but I don't want to admit it. I'll get the reality check when the bodies come in.

    34. New When I sold dolls (non-BJDs) that I wasn't interested in anymore I probably had enough funds to buy us a new sofa. Instead I used that money to buy my first two BJDs. Our sofa isn't awful but we probably should replace it, as the support in the seats isn't that great anymore. It's a 12+ year old Ikea Ektorp sofa that's outlived its usefulness. At least my husband supports my hobby and said that I should use my money on what I enjoy. It's not like we sit on the sofa that much anyway (we're not TV watchers). We'll probably see what we can find in the furniture sales later this year.
