Meme: Some confession sharing?

Jan 19, 2015

    1. ***Please keep it nice and chilled

      Do you have any confessions?

Like something about a sculpt, company, or an experience?

For example... my confess is that I think the chole head is overrated. :p

But my confession is: Of all the dolls I own and have owned (and that's a lot!) my very favorite is Valentine, my Volks F-32. Shhhhh! Don't tell the other dolls!

    9. I just brought home my MDD Rena and already have moments when I think it was a mistake, moments when I think of selling her.
I just don't really know what to do with her, and she's also a lot chunkier than I envisioned her to be.
Is that what people mean when they talk about not being able to bond with a doll? I'm a sad Panda. Sigh...:(

I tried to make Yo stand and when I was holding only his leg he fell and got hit in the face, and I was there shocked with him hanging from the leg I holded, for half a minute.
He didn't get hurt outside, but his feelings are hurt.
      And I hate myself now.

    15. I think I am turning into a bit of a BJD junkie. I keep telling myself that I'm going to stick with the resin BJD dolls I have, all 10 of them, cough, blush, but I'm not sure I am going to be able to stick to that. I'm going to try but putting together inexpensive hybrid BJD's is so much fun and I keep seeing heads I really, really like...

    19. A lot of recent sculpts are too weird for me. I know artists need to do something different to stand out, but to my financial benefit, there's a lot less temptation now than there was, say, three years ago.

Which has nothing to do with my other confession: I modded my favourite doll, and now she can't stand properly. :doh Elena, I'm so sorry!

My main confession is this: I feel really guilty whenever I buy anything for my dolls, even if I've specifically saved money just for doll stuff. I honestly don't know why, it makes no sense when I really exam the reasons why.

    29. I started off buying bjds solely based on what sculpts I found really beautiful and just sort of using already existent fictional characters that the dolls sort of reminded me of as the inspiration/starting point for their styling/fashion sense... but not actually making them character dolls or making detailed characters of my own for them... and no backstory for anybody.... but slowly over time fragments of story/character have sort of randomly attached themselves to the dolls... and now they kind of have characters and I think the doll I've currently got on layaway is accidentally my first "OC", given that not only did I pick out her name but suddenly realized that I had a whole character in mind for her already. Which is just super weird for me, since the whole "character creation" aspect was never a draw to this hobby for me or anything I was at all interested in.

    34. Yeah, well, the nastiness expressed in many tumblr confessions should stay there.

Onward -- I hear you folks about ironing clothing. I even bought a crafter's tiny iron to do the job. Junk. Was never hot enough.

My main confession is....I sometimes lose body parts. Maybe while restringing, or an old-style foot pops free from the screw-eye, or I didn't find a hand or wrist ball or elbow joint in the box of parts being unwrapped. They always turn up, but by the time I find them, I've already adlibbed with and started to flesh out a handicapped character -- and don't want to backtrack....

    38. I wash (hand wash) doll clothes...and iron them if needed.

I only develop a character after I find a sculpt I like. The sculpt "tells" me who it is...how they want to look, etc.

I don't like (for the sake of civility I won't name the specific company) one of the most popular makers of BJDs today. UGH...What is the big deal over and over and over. I'm gonna pull my hair out...there are SO many companies out there and I'm like "this is the most popular one"...

I also read the "trouble transaction threads".

      And one more...

Sometimes I'm more fascinated by the owners box opening backgrounds than the actual doll. Or at meets seeing people's faces. OMG I sound creepy. I just like seeing other doll owners "lives/selves".

I've never, knowingly, meet another bjd owner. So, I guess that plays into the above.

    39. Most of my dolls are unfinished...and instead of finishing them I buy a new doll. (Hence my 5 year project..joker)

    41. Personally I think we should keep confession stuff off DOA. It gets mean and hurtful really fast and and its not relevant to the discussions. I get that it can have a truth or dare kind of excitement and appeal but it's not appropriate in my opinion. If you want to talk about mods or over rated or under rated sculpts there are already established threads for those subjects. Let's save the secret sharing for a doll meet sleep over with your besties.

    43. My Juri '12 twins still don't have face-ups...

While I do play the "character game" with many of my dolls, I don't do it with all of them. A few of my crew have nothing more than a name, and are unlikely ever to get elaborate characters or backgrounds. (I have them just because I liked the doll, not because I wanted them to be some sort of shell for an OC.)

I still love the "classic" CP/Delfs, and probably always will.... But I'm just not a fan of Fairyland's more recent sculpts. Something about all of those girls just looks off to me, though I can't point out exactly what.

I really want that Doll Chateau spider-girl. Really want. I just don't know if I have room for her leggy self in any of my display cabinets and that's stopped me from ordering her.

    44. I once lost a doll finger for about three years.
I put it away so I wouldn't lose it before I had a chance to glue it back on and just couldn't find it. I even messaged a bunch of people I sold dolls to just to see if the finger ended up in their package.
When I finally found it I glued it on..crooked, and with a bit of black fuzz visibly sticking out.

I want to get an SD10 4 sisters (I had and sold one already) just to model my extensive kimono collection. Sometimes I think I like those more than the dolls they are supposed to go on.

Most of my dolls live in boxes, some for a year at a time.

When my Delf El (Toshiya) was getting his leg mods done, I joked about doing a photoshoot of him dragging around bloody stumps. I also threatened to use carrots as lower leg pieces.

I felt guilty for the week it took for him to arrive but now when I look at him I just feel gleeful.*_*

I also have to admit to slightly prefering the new arrivals over the older dolls.

    47. Bwahahaha!! Me too! :XD: Maybe that should be a thread, "root vegetables as limbs."

I'll confess. . . it took me 3 years to work up the courage to fix a chip in an LE face up. It wasn't even anything difficult but I really didn't want to ruin the rest of his face. . . . and given my usual luck it was a distinct possibility. :sweat

I admit I laugh whenever I read about the problem transaction that some friends and I were in held up as an example of how far some people will go to cheat others. . . almost like it was an urban legend or something. It wasn't funny at the time, of course, but now I kind of get a kick out of the fact people had read through that thread, remembered it, and posted about it elsewhere. I sometimes read the problem transaction forum looking to see if anyone has topped that one. Hoping, of course, that no one does. . . :|

    48. I have an old MNF Lishe. One of the first things I did with her, around 2008, was put a pretty new outfit on her and take her outside in the springtime in my yard and take numerous photos. It was only after I brought her back inside and was putting her in her box, that I noticed that she'd decided to lose a pinky somewhere along during the session. From the first hands I ever blushed/manicure-painted.

I was horrified. I checked every photo spot and searched in the grass, bushes, and dirt for well over an hour for that tiny piece of resin.....

    49. I can't get any of my dolls finished, because I keep buying new ones. I only have four dolls (well and some off topic ones) and not one of them is finished. I'm really close on one... Then after deciding to not buy anymore until I finished these, I decided it would be REALLY fun to make my daughter an Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender. So, instead of sewing and what not, I'm browsing for a good doll for that. :doh
