Melbourne BJD Emporium Swap-Meet, December 1st

Oct 17, 2018

    1. At long last, the Melbourne BJD Emporium is coming back, slowly but surely!
We're starting our return off small, with a sweet swap-meet before we all get lost in the madness of Christmas and the summer holidays.

More information will be added as we get closer to the date, but feel free to address any questions or concerns to either myself or @Gathephaar :)

    2. Hey guys, girls, and dolls! We've seen a lot of questions floating around about what this "swap meet" is and what it will entail, so we've picked a few to answer for you. Please, if you want to know something we haven't answered here, don't hesitate to contact us and ask! We don't bite and neither do our dolls! ;)

"So, what do we bring to a swap meet anyway?"
      - A swap meet is a place for you to bring your second-hand doll items to! All those dresses that never fit, the eyes that just didn't look the way you wanted, and even those dolls that you just didn't bond with! Let's not lie, we all have these stashes, so this is a good time to try trade for something that you like better!

"I'm new and don't have anything to trade!"
      - That's OK too! While we ask people to consider trading rather then selling all their items, we're sure that if you ask them nicely, they'll be just as open to selling to you (think of it as a dolly garage sale ;) )!. Or you can just come for the company and to get to know other doll owners!

"Can I make some new things to trade?"
      - We admins did discuss this at length, and have decided that while we are not going to police what people bring, we would ask that you please limit yourself to second-hand items. We will have a sales meet sometime in 2019, which will be a far more accommodating place for you to bring all your newly made wears!

"Will there be an entry/table fee?"
      - There will be a small entry fee to help cover the costs of room rental, this will be $3 for adults and $1 for kids or adolescents under 12. There will be NO table fees, so please try share your table with someone else so that everyone gets a space! We ask that you mark your space in a clearly defined way to help distinguish what belongs to whom (something like a coloured cloth to place your items on).

      "Will there be prizes/games/activities?"
      - Yes! As our first hosting of an Emporium event, we don't have much to offer, but we have gotten a couple of things in order! There will be a raffle door prize and a small photo competition (a poloroid camera will be provided, one snap each, more details on that comng soon). The prizes will be some restringing/care kits that we have put together.

      "Is there a theme?"
      - Yes! The theme this year will be "Christmas in Australia" and whatever that means to you! Whether it's Santa hats or beach wear. It's not strict, just have fun with it! Of course, if you don't feel it, you don't have to do it either.

"I don't have a "BJD" as such, but I do have Pullips/Blythe/Dollfie/etc. Is that OK?"
      - Sure is! Or only ask is that you don't bring recasts to this event, as the BJD Emporium is strictly pro-artist! Any other types of dolls are A-OK!

    3. We are hoping that a few new people will attend this event and as such, we've written up a small post on etiquette! Most of you will know this, but if you don't that's OK too!

      - Please don't touch other peoples dolls without permission!
      - If you are holding someones doll, please avoid touching their face
      - Make sure your hands are clean before handling others dolls
      - Be polite to others!
      - Ask a trader before trying on/handling their wears
      - Be nice about other peoples dolls, even if they're not your style
      - If someone says something is not for trade/sale, then please respect that.

See, nothing to it! If you're worried about something just come ask the door guard and they'll help you!
