Mature-looking Mini discussion

Apr 20, 2006

    1. I agree. I do love the leg options! Reminds me of the Infinity Doll SID>

    2. I love mature MSDs. If I had the money right now, I'd totally jump on getting one of the new DM girls! Curvy is where it's AT.

There are a lot (relatively) of mature MSD girls, but where are all the boys? The only ones that have both mature faces and bodies that I've seen so far are minifees, of which I already own quite a few... and of course the new Chicline. But other than that, it's hard finding MSD sized boys that look proportionately adult next to my minifee boys.

    3. I really like mature MSDs as well- most of my characters are teenage-early 20s and I like them to look the part. :) I'm planning on buying one of the new DM Judith girls ^_^ it was instant love- she reminds me of a character from one of my all time favourite book series.

I love SDs as well (I've got both in my collection) so I end up separating my MSDs into early teens (14-16) and my SDs into late teens/20s (16-21). It works well for me even if the sizes are a little strange sometimes.

    4. Bluefairy as well as Peakswood offer larger bust. Dream of doll new body for 40cm is mature looking as well.
      Zinna White here I come.

    5. See, as I am thinking about this, I had a bit of an epiphany. Some people say that for their size (40-45cm about) That they should be mature. YET, the world is populated by the ever so popular 30.5cm very curvaceous and disproportionate doll known as Barbie is beyond popular. Yes some people do not like equating Barbie with the BJDs but many people do see the similarities with the size. Their are now even more dolls on the market that are even closer in size to general MSD measurements and they are mature in body. So I just don't see why people feel that MSDs have to be mature. Yes I have seen people who are vehemently opposed to mature MSDs. Not because they don't fit with their other dolls but due to what I guess you could call moral objections.

    6. Most people are looking to expand and get away from the "Barbie" size most of us grew up with. I wanna feel like I own a actual doll not a upgraded Barbie.

    7. So True. So very true. :)

    8. immature or mature. Everyone has their preferred cake. I just hope the option of expanding a doll type from it's set standards continues. And more inviting mature MSD size dolls expands. Or busting out of VOLKS molds so to speak.

    9. My first MSD was Dollmore kid Pado. I discovered that not only did I think of her more like a teenager, but also I wasn't able to sew the types of outfits that I like for her because of her severe lack of curves. So I went to the other end of the spectrum and got an L-bust ChicLine gal >:D

But honestly if Dollmore does release Judith body by itself, I may give my Pado an upgrade. The nice thing about Dollmore is that the quality is very good for the price. They're not as highly engineered as MiniFee but they are solid and affordable.

I'm curious to see what clothes will fit the 'curvy' MSD type.

    10. LOL! My BFF, her first MSD is a DM Kid Pado. (Her character is Mimi's BFF!)

I have tried making clothes for her girl and you are right, the lack of curves have limited styles.

    11. It depends. Some clothing is easier to sew without curves. Historical especially Elizabethan can suit lack of curves but other styles really look better on a less childlike body. I like the overall look of the the latest Dollmore girl. I'm actually tossing up whether to spend my money on her, the current twin pack of dolls at Aria or the new Curvy Aria tiny. I've got one of the Sweet 7 yr MSDs due to arrive tomorrow and I'm still waiting for Aria to post comparison pictures between the Sweet and Tiny dolls. I'm a little wary of the Tiny dolls because I'm worried they could be Aria's answer to the Chicline and I find the Chicline heads WAYYYYY too small for my tastes. I prefer pumpkin heads. Even barbie's head looks too small these days. I've started buying Bratz and Moxie girls for my kids.

I'm fairly certain that if the Judith girls prove popular that Dollmore will release a wide range of clothing for them. A lot of their outfits are fairly stretchy anyway.

    12. Saddly the Limhwa ForYou is discontinued. She has such a dainty mature body, and the detail on her body is delightful. Down to the butt dimples.

I make more mature clothing to fit my girls. Pity there is few premade clothing set for mature MSD bodies. That actually look mature as well.

As far as historical clothing goes, French Rococo style would look lovely on a mature MSDs. With the pinch waist corsets and pushed up busts.

    13. I am into historical clothing. Medieval, Renaissance, Regency, Late Victorian. French Rococo is a lovely style but some times the over the top details does get to me.

Gracefairy Patterns does have some lovely MSD styles and can be adjusted accordingly to your desire. (Including a corset top)

    14. I agree about the detail, but it makes it all the more worth it and that much more special. Actually the Judith dolls make for some cute Rococo Marie Antoinette girls.

I would love a mature, large bust MSD. To have optional bust piece to make the breasts look flat on one side like when a large busted girl lays down on her tummy. :D

    15. I have a doll that her head accidently popped off at a meet and her name has been changed to Marie Antoinette!

I would love to see what kind of clothes that DM comes out with for the new girl. So far I keep looking and from what I see, the iplehouse clothes would fit best. I do love IH curves as well. :P

    16. I make fetish style clothes for my dolls. I love elegant style fetish :)

Also Bobobie/ ResinSoul has a option for larger bust body. And new double jointed MSD looks a little mature.

    17. [IMG]
I Don't think he looks child like but then again, he may to everyone else (he's a bobobie, wu) I heard that bobobie/resinsoul Ans look adult like

    18. Hi, all,

I'm looking for a smaller, dainty MSD doll, 40cm with a mature body. I've found Bobobie's Lan, and she's a definite possibility, but are there any other dolls similar to her? Most of the MSDs I find are at least 42 cm, and I really want the smaller, slimmer size.

    19. Have you looked at Planetdoll? They do two dolls in a smaller more dainty msd size. There's also Qpito's HeeAh and if you want slightly smaller than msd, there is Dollmore's Narsha at 35cm and my Narae is very petite compared to some other msds.

    20. I have been looking at bjd for a while, and I love the more mature dolls. However, I know it'd be easier for me to have an msd sized doll, and its so hard to find one that isn't cutesy or more child-like than adult like. Do any of you guys know of more mature msd dolls, both male and female? Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    21. The Angel of Dream boys have quite mature bodies compared to a lot of the others. You can see an example here: http://aoddoll.net/ProDetail.asp?id=180

Even if you don't like any of the head sculpts, you could always put another type of head on an AoD body.

    22. also if you`re looking for more mature MSD`s Iplehouse and DIM are both bigger MSD`s.....

    23. Look at Unoa, look at Mini Fee at Fairyland (some of their faces are more mature than others), Dollmore's Judith doll is mature.

There are lots of options besides those, but I could remember them. :)

    24. solitary agent: I love this body, thanks so much for the suggestion!
Thanks for the help guys ^.^

    25. The link above for an AoD boy doll is actually to a SD sized boy. I just bought him but the MSD boy should be there somewhere. I'll go take a look.

    26. Oooops. They look so similar I didn't notice!

    27. Apologies for the slight hijack, but can anyone recommend MSD-sized heads with mature faces? I've got a body all picked out (Minifee active line) but their head style doesn't appeal to me. I'm looking for something more like the Iplehouse EID faces (Asa, Jessica, etc.) or the Dollmore larger dolls - really realistic, like they could be a real person.

I'm just not finding a whole lot in that range that will look proportional on a MNF body that doesn't look like the face of a 12 year old. I'm fine with modding the neck/head a little to get it to fit, or blushing to match - I just can't find a company with sculpts that make me squeal.

I'm looking for a female doll but I don't have a problem using a male sculpt that's not super all super brow ridges.

    28. While they still have fairly large eyes, I think DOC's Too and Bee-A are much more mature than DOD's other DOC dolls. They look like they could be high school students, while some of the others, Like Leya and Pitts, look like they just started preschool!

I don't understand why MSD's always have to be "children," and if that's the case, why every company still gives all the girls breasts! There is something seriously strange about that!

    29. kayjay,

My apologies for not responding to this earlier! I didn't realize I had to subscribe to threads in order to be notified of replies. I have not looked at the dolls you mention, but I will definitely check them out. I am especially intrigued by the pictures of HeeAh that I've seen. Thank you!

    30. Have you looked at fairyland's mini fee or c-line bodies? They are pretty darn slim and very pretty.

    31. Resinsoul, Bobobie's sister company makes some nice slim mature mini's as well.

    32. Just be REALLY aware that with Lan (who is LOVELY) her proportions are FAR more realistic than most BJD. She has a 'tiny' head compared to most others, it's what makes her so much smaller than other dolls on that same body. Her head is actually only .5cm bigger than the 27cm dolls from BBB and RS. I just know that there have been people who love her, buy her, get her home...and are dissapointed with how 'funny' she looks next to their other dolls because of her little, realistic head.

MNF might be a good way to do, as they are a little shorter than the BBB and RS double jointed dolls. I adore mine, but haven't really measured her size or stood her next to my Mei (Resinsoul doll, on the original, smaller, single jointed body) to see how she measures up against the smaller, single jointed, RS dolls. But ANY of the Resinsoul dolls, even the ones that really measure about 42cm (like Mei), on the single jointed body look REALLY dainty compared to most other MSDs, even other mature ones, because they are SO skinny. Even compared to BBB dolls, or the double jointed RS body, the old single jointed body makes them look delicate and dainty. I know that sitting next to eachother my Mei looks daintier than my MNF, but like I said, I've never really checked who is actually the taller of the two.

And if you want to go, not just dainty, but SHORT, too, Dollmore just released...1? maybe 2? new sculpts that are mature bodied, but only stand 30cm tall.

And if you choose the 'taller' single jointed RS for your new doll, you CAN decrease the height a little bit, if you're willing to mod some. Either in sanding down a little bit at the ankles, knees, wrists, and elbows (to keep the arms proportional to the legs) or by having the doll modded to a 3 part torso from the 2 that they are by default. That gives more posing ability, when done right, and also takes out some of the height.

    33. There's a good body comparison {HERE} The dolls are naked btw so NSFW.

And here is a naked fairyland c-line body (even slimmer and smaller than MNF).

    34. I agree with checking out the Minifee's at Dollfairyland, but there is also the possibility of the Unoa's using the bigger bust option, and if you can locate them, the Serendipidy Sharmin/Alice?

    35. *takes notes*
      *bookmarks like woah!*

Ayas-Shadow, I had looked at Lan, but the smaller head, realistic as it is, finally made me decide against her. I have several vinyls, and the ones I play with the most are the ones who are "less" realistic in their head-body size. The slimmer BBB body might be the way to go, though, with a different head. As for modding, I'm not ready to go there yet; just got my feet wet in the BJD world. MNF, Mini-Fee, I"m guessing? I'd need a different head; their faces all look too immature for what I want. But I had thought about them and will definitely keep them in mind.

xanthi: Awesome! Thank you so much. That is a wonderful picture for comparison.

Absynthe: I'm not familiar with Serendipidy, but I will check them out. Unoa... those are still by lottery, right? I like what I've seen of them, but I'd like something a bit easier to get hold of at this point. Thank you, though!

I wound up getting two 1/6th dolls this week, still not quite sure how that happened, so the search for the "perfect" MSD is a bit on hold. But information gathering is always good. Thank you, all!

    36. Serendipity actually went out of business a number of years ago. Their master molds were bought by Dollndoll, who continues to make Sharmin and some of their other dolls http://dollndoll.com/shop/step0.php?b_code=1131695700&c_code=C20081024061507
The Diamond girl body is becoming popular for hybridizing with Unoa faceplates (you'll need to find someone selling a headback or make your own--check the Unoa Hybrid thread.)
I've got a Unoa faceplate on a Serendipity body and she's the shortest and slimmest of my MSDs.

(For getting Unoa faceplates, you can order at any time through AL's webshop through a shopping service. I've used http://noppin.ocnk.net/product-list/10 who also handles preorders for the girls. They have kits for the boys and the Chibis available, but the girls are preorder only at certain times.)

    37. I personally think Bobobies look young and often wide-eyed, but there's nothing wrong with that- they're cute. :)

I love mature minis! I've never had an SD, and as much as I love them, and I don't know if I could really handle them. They're so difficult to work with, in my opinion. Tinies fit right in my hand and MSD's are the perfect crook-of-the-arm doll- just grab 'em and go. :D

I have Narae, MNF, DoC, and soon enough, Judith girls. All are adult characters. In fact, I have trouble considering buying childlike MSD's since all mine are adults. ;P The only one of my girls whose look is sometimes not as mature as I'd like is my DoC Petsha, but that has more to do with her face than her body.

    38. first of all, sorry about my english, it's not my native language.
so, im very new to this hobby, and havent even recieved my first doll yet. However this story keep popping up in my head now, so im wondering if i have to get a boy aswell. (perhaps even two....=)

Im looking for something in the mini size range. Not bigger than 50 cm, and not shorter than 43 cm, pref around 45-47, a bit taller than my girl (when she arrives, but not to tall)

Im looking for something like Narin Charisma, but in a smaller body=)
I have just seen one owner picture of him,..and i know one shouldt look at faceups when deciding.

My problem is that most of the mini sized boys i have seen so far looks kinda girly. and i dont have anything against them, its just that i prefer not to own a feminine boy myself. I do like androgynity (no idea on how to spell that) to a point, but he would still have to have some masculine factors.
I think its something about the lips that sets me off,...the Narin Charisma has the kind of lips im looking for, not so full and round as so many other boys ive seen have.

As for now i've just researched girls, and i fell for soulkid fafner- and if i get a boy i want him to match her in maturity.

so, do you know of any mature/ manly/ masculine looking mini sized boy sculps? company dosen't matter.

I dont know if i posted this in the right place, feel free to place this wherever it belongs.

    39. Have you ever try to look at Soul-Vito line at souldoll? They are MSD size about 50 cm. and both body and face look mature. I think they will perfectly match with Fafner.

Sorry for my bad english grammar. It's not my native language too.

    40. I have a latidoll Rucas and he's definitely more mature than other MSDs.

    41. I think almost all the Resinsoul/Bobobie dolls look pretty mature.

    42. I have a BBB An, and I think he's the most adult looking of my guys. He has the look of a romantic poet!

    43. I didn't know if this was meant for size specific or general as size specific looked more like just a company discussion....

I've seen plenty of "cute" more childlike male MSD's but I'm personally into manly MSD boys (faces and bodies) what are some companies/ sculpts that would be considered more mature as apposed to childlike?

Do you like these more masculine sculpts for your boys or do you prefer more kid-like?

    44. Fairyland's Chicline dolls are VERY manly and are proportioned like 70cm boys but in a MSD package. I have a couple myself, but I also have a few more childlike MSD's...I love them both

    45. I love masculine boy BJD and I love them in MSD size but I would prefer that they are taller than MSD girl like Withdoll's sculpt and Fairyland's Minifee whereby they are just right for MSD girls n___< Childlike is fine just that I prefer masculine body especially for photoshoots, they look better n___n

    46. I prefer masculine MSD faces ans bodies more than juvenile ones, for the characters I like to put into dolls. AoD bodies seem rather fine too.
But I haven't seen any face I find clearly male and adult in MSD size...:?

    47. A little bigger than typical MSD's, I guess they are a new category of mini's,
50cm boys: Souldoll Vito line and Soom's ID51.
I've been away for a bit so there could be others

    48. I liked more manly sculpts when I first started, and still look for the most manly sculpts for my boys. However, my asthetic had to change to fit the bjd style. My eye no longer tries to see them as humans, LOL. I see them as other beings, mostly. My only exceptions are my Fairyland Chicline dolls. They look human.

My favorite sculpts still include dollmore kids because I adore their faces, but they're still grown up in my crew, except my daughter's boy doll who is a tall teenager of about 12-14

The other boy sculpts I like are:
      Lati Blue boys
      Iplehouse boys
      Withdoll boys
      and limwa mano

I want a fairyland minifee boy or two but I am worried at how short they'll be next to my girls and other boys. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it :)

    49. The manly MSD is a rarity indeed. As is so often in this hobby, bodies don't match faces- we have little girls with giant boobs, little boys with muscly bodies...so it's hard to find an MSD boy face that can look as mature as some of the girls. Fairyland has very manly body options, but the heads are still a little baby cheeked. I've been in this hobby for about a year, and I still haven't found the perfect manly bjd. My personal preference (and the most manly MSD I've found that's not one of the 50cm or the Chiclines because Chiclines don't proportion well with MSD girls) is Fairyland's Karsh and Lishe- Lishe boys can look amazingly mature, as can Karshs. I'm hoping others will have more specific sculpt recommendations too.

Edit: Iple boys can look very mature, but at the same time they look more realistic than say Fairyland, and somehow still manage to look sort of little kiddish to me at times.

    50. Bumping to find a mascuine MSD or MNF sized doll! Have been looking everywhere!

    51. I think AoD's mini bodies are pretty mature, though more slender than muscular.

    52. Lumedoll's got a 30 cm guy who's a lot more manly looking http://www.lumedoll.com/koit.htm

I actually took one of my machina guy heads and made a custom to make Snake-eyes:

someone mentioned the Limho boy. I shaved mine's cheeks and lips down so they weren't so puffy and he looks pretty manly. He's still not as masculine as Saint.

I wanted a more manly regular head too, so I worked on a head for the MNF that was more in line with what i wanted, but i never did finish him. He's in a big basket on my desk that's for projects I need to complete... along with a head for Tali from Mass Effect.

Then i think Dollmore's got a 16 inch boy that's OT for DOA but he might be what you're looking for. I'm not crazy about the sculpting of the body... but that's a personal hang up. XD

    53. The Lume dolls, while stunning, are really way too much smaller than any MSD girl to work.

Fortunately, there are many more options to choose from than in 2006, when this thread started. Withdoll, which is a much newer company, makes a round of boys that work very well with most mature MSD girls. They have stylized faces, but not all of them are super boyish and/or androgynous like some MSD boys can come off as.

LatiDoll's boys both might work, too, but they are very tall and lanky guys, and Lati's waiting times are incredibly long.

I think, though, the most masculine you can get that can scale well to a mature mini girl are Souldoll's Vito boys. They are very broad, chiseled, man-dolls, but they dwarf the average MSD girl with being 50CM tall, and certain childish faces may look odd next to them.

    54. Since 2006, they've also released the active body for MNF, which is pretty 'Six pack at the gym, oh yeah, baby.' And MNF resin matches a bunch of other resin, so if their *heads* are all too girly, hybriding is go!

    55. Souldoll 52 cm Vitos & Idealian 51 will work with some MSDs.

The ID51 line has tiny heads, though, 6-6.5 wig size. A fluffy wig on him & a sleek wig on the MSD with a common larger head will help the disproportion hide.

I expect to receive my SD Vito Lester today or tomorrow from DDE, so I can take a comparison picture, if you'd like.

    56. Ooh, Ann, which body did you get? I just discovered Souldoll's visible and "hidden" double-jointing!

    57. hobbywhelmed, I got the "visible" jointing because I liked better how it looked. Ironic, right?
