Wait Times Masterpiece Eyes - Recent Order Experience?

Feb 4, 2011

    1. Has anyone attempted to order a single pair of eyes from Masterpiece Eyes lately? I tried ordering from them a few years ago, and even after six months, I never saw the eyes I ordered. I know the wait times were extremely long, individual orders were not being made, only the larger batch orders...

      Their Website for Ordering:

I've looked through the various reviews, but I can't seem to find anything recent. Most Masterpiece dealings seem to be from 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Has anyone had any recent dealings with this company lately? What sort of customer service have you experienced? What are the wait times you've seen with individual orders?

I appreciate any input that can be provided!

(I do know there are Masterpiece dealers out there, but none of them carry the eyes I'm looking for.)

    2. Bump!
I'd like to know here too! I've been considering a purchase from Masterpiece for a while but had been put off by the fact that they didn't correspond to emailed questions I'd made a couple of years back.

    3. Well, I decided to go ahead with my planned order. Will let you know how things go processing time wise. The eyes ordered:-
1 pair 19mm Soft Glass eyes in Finavon Green with dragon pupil (narrow slit) and embedded veining options chosen.
Their intended for a WS shiwoo dreaming vampire - turned - gentleman cat
I'm interested in seeing the turn around time and quality compared to custom taxidermy quality glass eyes I've ordered in the past from a favourite US glass eye supplier I've been looking to re-order from for a while.

    4. Well, received a shipping notice for my eyes last Saturday 16th of April. Hoping that means I might see them this coming week.

    5. I ordered from them last year, took about three months for the order to arrive [which wouldhave been december/January time when they did]- and the eyes had faults of bubbles in the surface. Not the best of experiances, I'm afraid!

    6. :( Salvagore , I'm so sorry to hear about your bad experience with them :(
Did you contact them? As I've read they're happy to exchange bad eyes ?

I've been wanting some Afghans for a long time, but am so put off ordering now. >_<

Also, Salvagore, what did they value your parcel at? And was it classed as Gift?

    7. Well, received my eyes on Monday and will reserve most of my comments about the eyes themselves until I receive my replacement eyes as mine were damaged in transit... no surprise as they were FLAT PACKED for transport 1/2 way across the world ie. put in a tiny snaplock bag inside a DL sized envelope that was placed inside an A4 envelope and that's it... not even a bit of bubble wrap to protect them. Hence, the clear surface silicone on one of the eyes had started to shear off the surface, and both eyes had general pressure damage, or at least that's what I'm hoping due to their cloudiness making them look more like cheap acrylics eg. Dollmore. However, there was also an issue with bubbles around the iris which is an issue in the casting and setting of the clear surface silicone. I'd say I'm hoping this is a one off problem and see how the replacement eyes turn out but for the fact that Salvagore also mentioned a bubble issue, meaning this could be a case of bad casting practice.
Anyway, will let you know how the replacement eyes turned out but this has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth....a $58 USD + postage bad taste. Next time I want a good pair of slitted pupil eyes I'll stick with Tohickon Glass....best taxidermy quality glass eyes ever, even if postage to AU from them is a killer!

    8. I ordered some during their 40% off event.
On the 30th I got an email from USPS with a tracking number.
No updates yet, but Ill let ya'll know whenever they arrive !

    9. Update= They arrived.
Again, A4 bubble envelope , with a paper wallet inside it.
They all look fine, nothing as bad as recent people have had. Except one pair of Afgahns domes , they're so high they look like nipples :| And the other pair, one pupil isn't round, it looks a bit smudgey :[

    10. Callum, be careful with the eye with the smudgey pupil. I had one like that and, with the normal pressure of fitting them into the sockets, the pupil eventually bled out and made the eyes unusable. I hope that yours isn't as fragile, but it might be best to be extra gentle with it.

    11. That's what I thought, MauMau :(
All the others seem fine though, it's just the Afghans that have the problems :(
I know I got them in the discount sale, so is it worth emailing them and telling them the problems, do you think? I have a feeling
the nipply-ones won't fit in the eyewells, as the dome is that high :/

      ETA -
Upon closer inspection, one of the other pairs; Copenhagen 11mm, one has cloudiness on it :( Looks like there was some kind of film on the dome which looks like it's come off :-/
And a few pairs seem to have surface bubbles on them too :(
Will upload pix when my camera is charged x

    12. callum91, your lucky...a bubble envelope! I didn't even get that...just a plain non-lined manilla envelope with a standard DL size envelope inside...no padding at all.
Still waiting on my replacement eyes that were finally re-sent about 3 weeks ago.

    13. Well, my replacement eyes did arrive..this time nicely packed in a USPS priority mail box...and the eyes in an acrylic case BUT I'm just not happy with the eyes themselves. For the $65.50 spent on a pair of 18mm Finavon Green eyes with dragon pupil and embedded pupil the eyes look no better than the smudgy off-centre look of Dollmore's 14-16mm acrylic cats eyes, complete with cheapy digitally printed and badly trimmed iris and all.

I honestly don't know where Masterpiece get their wonderful reputation from in my experience... if I want silicone / soft glass eyes I'll stick with EyeCo with their lovely big eye whites and Soom with their impeccably well made eyes in the future. And, if I want well made 18mm + "animal" eyes I'll stick to the glass taxidermy quality variety!
callum91, I had the same issue with the "nipply-eyes"! Very high-raised domed eyes they are!

    14. I'm not happy about this. I really wanted to order some eyes from them but this sounds horrid to me.
