Maskcat 57cm Dolls - part 2

May 2, 2017

    1. I don't have the tall DT dolls so I can't help that way.

But I will chip in and say that my Maskcat girl works extremely well with my DT7 girls so the aesthetic aspect of your idea should work.

    2. @Jane, they look wonderful together! I really didn't want ANOTHER company to fall for, though . . . :...(

    3. Hahahahahaa! That's what I said to begin with too........and I held out for a long time too. But in the end Maskcat *got* me.....and I am thrilled!

    4. Lirin - I have all sizes of DT except 18 yo and Margo (maskcat) who just got a face last weekend - I'll try to get a shot for you comparing them today.

    5. It took a while to get a picture - rain, flooding - what a spring
Here is my Margo (Maskcat) amongst the Dollstown girls - left to right - Elf, 17 yo, 7 yo, Margo, 5 yo and 13 yo. As you can see she is the same proportions.

    6. Thank you @Xiaoli! Your girls are all gorgeous! Is that 13 girl in the copper resin?
Your totally right, they are all in the same proportion, and look great together.... Wow, I feel like this is a great lead on finding Alice's sister. Now I just need to save up (just! She says lol) and figure out which maskcat girl is really my favorite :D

    7. Thank you so much for the photo from me too Martha......Maskcat really does work so well with the DT dolls.
Is your Margo on the Maskcat body please?

    8. Elf, 7 yo and 13 yo are the copper oriental resin - it looks different in different light. 17 yo and 5 yo are fresh skin.
Margo is on the maskcat body and is the pink resin. Interestingly she is wearing a dress I made for my elf size girls and it fits great. I haven't had time to make her own clothing.

    9. @Xiaoli
      @Jane
Your girls are sooooo pretty! Great to see more and more Maskcatdoll girls here! I really love their aesthetics.

I've just brought my Edin (Maskcatdoll Evelyn) with me on my UK trip. She was not heavy but enough to make me give up my DSLR and the small digital camera I took with me instead wasn't working well. Only a few photos survived T_T and here is one of them:

It was taken in Edinburgh castle.

    10. Hello! This is my first time taking photo with a 50 mm STM lens which I've just borrowed from my colleague. I'm so excited now. I still need a lot of practice and my hands were shaking all the time. My first shot was dedicated to my Fargo (Maskcatdoll Margo)

I guess I better save up for my own STM len ....

    11. Ooooh lovely new photos since I last visited.....thank you Moria_ash
I love the photo taken at Edinburgh castle. You did so well to give up taking your DSLR though!!!

And did you do the face-up on Fargo?

    12. I bought a Margo and hope to get her Monday. I got a Dollheart outfit and Luts shoes for her. After looking at her measurements, they seem to fit perfectly in standard outfits. So Maskcat girls are beautiful and versatile!

I wonder why there aren't more of them on here.
How do they look next to other SD size girls? Does anyone have pics with others? (I see the Dollstown photo below and they look great)
      Thanks!!!

    13. @Melly123 Here is a photo of the Maskcat body with the Volks SD13 body. Very similar, should fit the same clothes!

I ordered my blank Ronia on April 10 and got a shipping notification from Banyo yesterday!! Can't wait to get her!

    14. That is a great comparison of the body! Thanks!
Hopefully your Ronia will come quickly :)

    15. Congratulations Kuro! I ordered my painted Margo head in April and I got a shipping notice yesterday too!
      Exciting....isn't it!!!

    16. @Melly123 Thank you!

@Jane Hopefully we'll have lots of new Maskcat girls showing up! Can't wait to see what you do with your Margo :)

    17. @kuro Thank you!
I can never tell how a doll will be until I have them in hand, so to be honest I have no idea what I am going to do with my girl yet.........but my mind is swimming with possibilities.

Do you have a plan for your Ronia? I am guessing yes if you ordered her blank

    18. @Jane
Hello! I didn't do her faceup myself...I wish I could:pout:. It's a default faceup and I think it's pretty good except for the pink colour under her eyes. I think it's a bit too pink? But I really love her red lips and the freckles on her little cheeks.

      @Melly123
Can't wait to see your Margo!
I took a photo of my Fargo standing next to a Volks SDGr girl. I'm afraid she's the only SD size girl I got (I got a SD boy but I've just sent him for a new faceup) . The SDGr girl body is supposed to be slimmer but they just look the same to me with their dresses on :XD:
Fargo is a pink skin and the SDGr girl is NS.

The SDGr girl's face is so different from Fargo that she looks like somebody who came from another planet lol.

    19. BTW, the new hands I ordered a month and a half ago finally arrived and I quickly applied the UV cut spray sealant on them.

Honestly the sanding was not really satisfactory...but I love the sculpt very much and well considering that they are not expensive I will complain no more. With some hand makeup I think they will make some beautiful elegant hands.

      • x 6
    20. @Jane I'm planning on a pouty, sun-kissed California girl!

@Moria_ash The hand sculpting is so pretty, especially the wrinkles in the knuckles :D And LOL, Jo's faceup is definitely stunning but in its own world, haha.

    21. Tracking has not updated anything about my Margo head since June 3rd last weekend........when she had reached La Havre in France. The next stop after that was the airport down the road from me (less than 20 minutes away!) so I am not sure if Customs have caught my package and that is the cause of the delay.
I will just have to wait for an email to see what happens next.

Any news on your head kuro?

And thank you for the photos and for sharing your experience about the new hand sculpt Moria_ash. And it is very interesting to see the different aesthetic of the Maskcat and Volks sculpts too....thanks for the photos.

    22. Margo arrived and she is so delicate and pretty. This is her default wig and eyes, and a Dollheart dress. I wish the spotting on her cheeks wasn't quite so bold, but I do like that the color isn't just flat.
      She sits so nicely!

      • x 6
    23. Congratulations! She is really is so lovely, I really hope that mine looks as good as your girl does. And I am so pleased that she sits so well for you too.
And that dress fits perfectly too by the look of it.

What colour resin did you get her in please?
I see what you mean about the cheeks, I must prepare myself for that on my girl too as it seems to be their particular style for blushing at the moment.......doesn't it.

    24. Hi this is the pink skin. Maybe yours won't be so spotted. I like a little variance, but this almost looks like rosacea. I might try adding some blush. It doesn't look as noticeable in person.

The Dollheart is size SD10/13. The waist is a bit tight and the bust is a bit loose - but it fit right on and looks great! Her Luts shoes fit fine without socks. I ended up with 2 left high heeled feet, lol. They are mailing me a right foot.

    25. Thanks Melly.
DHL have just update their website and my girl has spent FIVE days in La Havre in France..........and she is still there! Though there is now an estimated delivery date of Friday for her *bounce*
I think she likes it in France so I might have to give her a French name! LOL!

I really do like your girl so I am getting really excited about this head now.
I need to get the Nerine head off the body so that I can start this new way of playing..........body share!
Wish me luck as in all the years of me collecting BJD's I have never managed to play this way. And I bought my first BJD in 2004!

And what a bother about the two left shoes you were sent, but great that they are correcting their mistake.
I know that the Musedoll shoes I already have fit this body so I will choosing one of those pairs for my girl to wear.

      • x 1
    26. @Jane My girl is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Friday) - did you receive your girl today?!

@Melly123 The more I see Margo, the more I love her! There's something about her mold, that at first glance you think she is sort of ordinary, but you can't stop looking back again and again ;)

    27. Thank you for asking........I paid a Customs charge on her this morning so with luck I should have her tomorrow.
I still haven't taken Nerine off the body yet though!

    28. Jane and Kuro - how exciting that delivery is so close!! Yay!

    29. Thank you Melly123!
Rather 'foolishly' thought I would try a new look with Karenza (my Nerine) today.

I really do like her like this........she has much more character in this wig than than the red wigs I usually have her in.
      *bother*
I think I am going to find this body sharing a lot more difficult than I thought it would be! LOL!

      • x 9
    30. She looks great, @Jane! I really love that wig on her :)

    31. Thank you so much.......I love to see how difference a wig makes.
I wonder just how much difference there is going to be between my Karenza and the new Margo head? I will find out tomorrow

    32. I love your Nerine head Jane

I was surprised how snug the wig fits on Margo. I didn't put a wig cap on. But I have no other SDs or wigs to experiment with.

I need one more SD to sit with Margo in my curio case. I can't decide whether to get another Maskcat and dress them similarly or get a boyfriend - like Luts SDF65 or Migidoll 65.

Any thought or help? I'll have to buy clothes and a wig no matter which I get.

Another Margo! she is so pretty :drooland the dress looks great on her! And OMG you got her default wig :o I order mine through Taobao and there was no default wig so I just found something that looked similar.
And for the future partner of your Margo...it's really a tough choice... I also got three Luts SDF65 boys and they are really handsome. But I am not sure whether you want the couple has the same 'style' or not. It might not be as extreme as the case of my Fargo & Jo combination, but Luts dolls also have that that kind of 'anime-style' faces, which might not harmonize with the more 'realistic style' of the Maskcatdoll girls very well . I don't have a Migidoll but based on the pictures I found on the internet they seem to be more 'on the realistic side' like Maskcatdoll.

      @Jane
Your Karenza is lovely:love I think simply by changing the wig makes the whole image different is one of the fascinating things of BJD hobby. I am also a PVC figure collector but they can never be as flexible as BJD.
I think your Margo will arrive very soon! And the body-sharing thing...my dolls do it all the time XDD. There are never enough bodies for all of my dolls because of the lack of space and money. (well space is a larger concern because I can always save up for a new doll but my house will never grow bigger) My three Maskcatdoll girls (Margo, Liz and Evelyn) are now sharing 1 body but I just bought a Guudoll body during the sales campaign. It will arrive tomorrow I guess? Hope it work well with my Liz lol.

    34. @Moria_ash What brillaint suggestions about a possible partner for Melly123's Margo!
From what I have seen of Migidoll in photos, I think you are spot on and that they have a similar aesthetic to the Maskcat girls.....good thinking!
Edit: I just saw that Migidoll was already on Melly's possible list *duh me* :eusa_sile

And thank you too for your support about this body sharing that I am trying for the first time. I have the same problem of it being lack of space being the real driving force behind this decision.

Today should be a good day for arrivals then with your Guudoll body and my Margo head.
I am interested to see how your Liz hybrid will work.

    35. I just got shipping notification on my Melodie. She is leaving Hong Kong! She will have another Maskcat body but
I also am in the sharing bodies state - due to space with my big Dollstown girls, but the shared heads are blank so far.
I saved one of the cases that Summo oranges came this winter so I will be able to safely store them once they are painted.

    36. Brilliant news Martha....I hope your girl gets to you asap. I m really looking forward to seeing owner photos of her.

And at last my Margo head is here.....but she didn't arrive until late in the afternoon.
However I do not have her on the body yet, as unfortunately she arrived with a pin prick of black dirt on her chin *wail*
I tried to ignore it but couldnโ€™t, and so emailed the wonderful Nouma from Maskcat and asked for help. I also sent a couple of photos to show the dirt speck.
Nouma talked me through how to clean that dirt off the face without damaging the face-up, I was very worried, but I managed it and now I am thrilled with my lovely new girl.

I will play with her later tonight and find some smaller glass eyes for her. I can see that her eye-sockets are not even so I am not sure how hard that will make putting in new eyes.
The left eye is more 'hooded' near the bridge of her nose than her right eye is.
And I love how my girl has been painted.............it so delicate and exactly what I wanted (even though I didn't know it! LOL!)

I am thrilled with this new Maskcat doll and canโ€™t wait to try her on the body now. :dance

    37. Congratulations Jane!

    38. Thank you! I can't wait to get her onto the body now but that will have to wait until tomorrow, it is too late here now.
I will sit and make lists of possible names instead tonight.........are you giving your Margo a new name?

    39. My Margo is named Tara.

[IMG]New Girls by Martha David, on Flickr

I still need to finish her face - her eyelashes have come but need gluing and she needs a little gloss.
I also have fabric to make a light green dress.

      • x 3
    40. Gosh! You Margo looks so different from mine.........I love how a face-up changes a doll so much.
I hope you find time soon to make her dress.

    41. Congrats Jane!! Can't wait to see your new girl :)

I'm so mad - my Ronia was supposed to be delivered today. I pre-paid my DHL fees online and authorized for the package to be left without signature, but the company that delivers DHL packages in my area didn't get the notice from DHL (or that's what they claimed, who knows) so they left an attempted delivery notice on my door AND it says I still owe the charges I paid. I called the company and they were so unhelpful  Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly when they attempt delivery again on Monday

      • x 1
    42. Oooh that would be so frustrating!!!

Does anyone have photos of several maskcat girls together? Do the different molds look different enough?

      • x 1
    43. Oh how maddening! And so disappointing at the same time too!
I so hope everything is sorted for a hassle free delivery on Monday *fingers crossed*

      • x 1
    44. Here you go....heads only of Nerine on the left and Margo on the right. They are both in the normal colour resin.

I know the face-ups and eyes will make a huge difference...........but I think you can see here just how different the actual sculpts are too.

    45. That is great! They look a lot different when next to each other - and so pretty! I've decided to get a tan Nerine.

      • x 1
    46. @Melly123 They really are different....aren't they! I was quite taken aback at just how different they were actually.

And I am really enjoying playing my new Margo doll.......the body swap was easy.
What is not so easy is deciding how to dress and style her. But at least I know her name.......she settled on Eloise. I think it really suits her.

And great news about your decision to order a tan Nerine....what fun!

    47. @Xiaolie
Your Tara is lovely! I love her freckles and carrot wig:D I always admire someone who can do the face-up and make dresses for their dolls.

      @Jane
Congratulations! Good to hear your Margo is alright now! My girl's eye-sockets are not even as well, but fortunately it didn't affect the eye wearing. Looking forwards to meet your Margo!

The Guu doll body has arrived yesterday night! My Liz (I named her 'Sofia' ) finally got her won body! I've spent a whole day spraying UV cut sealant and re-stringing. I only have enough time for few pictures

I'm not gonna do a detailed review of the Guu doll. There are some useful reviews in the Guu doll thread and Youtube already. Just a few things I'd like to say:
      1) The sanding is bad. It's uneven and some little scratches over the body . I mean the sanding of Maskcatdoll body is already not good enough but Guu doll? Even worse. I tried to do some simply sanding but didn't help much. It definitely needs some proper modification. (but I don't know how to do it) But it's still OK because you will not see them after your doll gets dressed.....AND it was cheap!

      2) Since the neck Circumference of Maskcatdoll is 8.8 cm while Guu doll is 9.5 cm....there is no surprise that the neck looks a little bit longer, but I personally it's acceptable.

      3) The string is tight, but it sits well and the poseability is quite good. I was surprised that it got a stopper on her chest, which I wish my Maskcatdoll body had, so it won't flap backwards like my Fargo often did.

      4) I only 4 different types of bodies (Luts, Volks, Maskcatdoll and IOS) so maybe it's just me not seeing enough doll bodies...but the feet sculpt of Guu doll is the most ugliest feet I've ever seen....BUT it was cheap!
Beside the feet, the body shape is quite pretty.

      5) Since Guu doll has no pink skin I order a NS (said to be similar to Volks NS) for my girl (pink skin). I was worried about the colour difference but it turns out the skin colour is more on the pink side (Volks is more yellower). I can't say it matched my Sofia perfectly but the colour difference is not obvious.

      • x 7
    48. @Moria_ash.......great that Sofia (your Liz) has her own body now. I take this body was significantly cheaper than a Maskcat one.
It is such a shame that your Maskcat body doesn't sit well *sigh*
I love the Maskcat body I have for my girls

And I am still trying to find the 'right' wig for my Eloise (Margo) and to decide what style of dress she would like to wear too.
It is fun having a new doll.

      • x 1
    49. On sitting, I was just playing with my Ruolan on the original body. She does have little hip scoops on the upper legs. When those are engaged on the back of the hip socket, she sits very well. They can easily be overlooked and it does take a bit of practice to use them.

      • x 1
    50. Eloise is a perfect name!

    51. Just a photo so you can see where I am with my Margo doll
I am having a blast with her........I have never had a SD doll with such small eyes before either

I am absolutely thrilled how my plans have worked out so far.

Does anyone have two Maskcat girls in both the NS and the pink resin please? I would like to see the difference in colour in owner photos if possible.

      • x 7
    52. @Jane She is lovely! She reminds me of Tavi Gevinson. What size eyes does she wear? 14mm?

At Doll North, Maskcat donated 3 heads - Melodie in pink, Lisette in normal, and Margo in white. Keep in mind the lighting in this photo is not great (basement ballroom in a hotel) but I think it shows the contrast in colour quite nicely. I was surprised that the normal was more golden than I expected; I thought normal was supposed to be a match for Volks NS, but seeing it in person I would say that pink is closer to Volks NS.

My Ronia arrived today! Unfortunately she has noticeable scratches on her cheek and eyebrow.

I emailed Banyo about it, and she said she will send a replacement head as soon as possible and that I can keep this one! Now what am I going to do with TWO Ronias...? :D

The tan resin colour is beautiful as well, although there are some sanding imperfections, in particular a pale patch below her navel and, really weirdly, the tip of one nipple :XD: But so far I am loving this body! She stands and sits like a rock, and I love the added mobility from the upper torso joint.

      • x 3
    53. @Jane
Your Eloise is adorable and her dress is elegant. She looks like she's the owner of the house behind her and she's just having a walk in the garden.
      @kuro
Congrats! Tan Ronia is attractive. My Fargo (Margo) and Edin (Evelyn) wears 14~15.5 mm but Sofia (Liz) wears 16mm Osar eyes. 16mm made her look more...innocent? I guess.
And thank you so much for the colour comparison. All my girls are pink so it is amazing to see NS and WS placed side by side with PS. I'm surprised how pale the WS is...it looks a bit...greenish...? to me. And the NS is much yellower than I thought.
As you mentioned about Volks NS, I got a picture for you

***Please notice that the body is from Guu doll (NS) but it matches the head very well (there is no noticeable colour difference) . I think Volks NS is right at the middle of Maskcatdoll NS and PS.

      • x 5
    54. @kuro and @Moria_ash Thank you both about my Margo girl. I am over the moon thrilled with her, but I am surprised just how much of a yellow undertone the Maskcat NS has. It wasn't until I put the two heads together that I saw just how much blushing my Nerine head had.
And I am going to assume that I am using 12mm eyes, as there is very slight gapping in the corner of the left eye (but it is very slight). I can't be sure about the size though but they are very small and I think they were bought for my Unoa girls a long time ago.
I tried them in her as a joke and found that I really liked how much life they gave to my doll......almost a sternness (or determination) that wasn't there with the larger eyes. The larger eyes gave her a much softer look and I didn't know who she was.

@kuro Congratulations on the delivery of tan Ronia.....but what a shame about the scratches *sigh* I know that tan resin always has 'issues' but scratches on a face are simply not acceptable.
And personally I would sell the spare head as a 'seconds' but only when the replacement one has arrived!
Do you know how long you have to wait for a replacement?

And thank you both for all the comparison photos........much appreciated.
As I mentioned above I have been surprised to see just how yellow the NS is. But I absolutely love my new girl and am just so inspired by her. Beautiful as my Nerine undoubtedly is, this girl has so much more character in her and I can't stop picking her up and imagining her story!

      • x 1
    55. @Moria_ash Thank you for the full body shot! Volks NS and Maskcat PS look nice together :)

@Jane I agree - I am not too bothered by the pale navel, sanded-off nipple, scratches on the back of the headcap, or even some marbling in her shoulder joint, particularly because Maskcat is a small studio. (If it was on my incoming FCS Sunlight girl though, you can bet Volks is getting a stern email!!). But the face has to be perfect! Banyo suggested I clean it with a wet Magic Eraser and it did help a little bit (albeit under a desk lamp at night - I suspect under natural light tomorrow it will still be very visible) but it's still there. Banyo said it won't take 40 days like the full doll, and she'll let me know when it ships. So hoping it's soon!

      • x 1
    56. @kuro I got a flurry of emails telling me to use a damp magic sponge on my doll too! Nouma must have been busy sending emails to you and me.
I was lucky and the black dirt marks did go with a little wipe.
But I was very worried about doing it, as I didn't want to damage the face-up or wipe off the MSC!

And I hope that your the replacement head arrives sooner than my head did!
I am guessing that because I had a face-up on the head I ordered that is why it took so long for my order to ship. I ordered my Margo head on 30th May and she wasn't shipped until the 4th June!

But I have to say I am absolutely besotted with my new doll..........

She is just so much fun.
I am so pleased that I bought this head as I gained a doll with a lot more personality than my Nerine head has. I love my Nerine doll (Karenza) but she is just a sweet and pretty doll......whereas Miss Eloise Carter is a force to be reckoned with! LOL!

    57. Yesterday I gave my Ronia her first faceup :) I have a rough idea of what I want her to look like, but I'm not very good at planning faceups, so I just did what seemed interesting and I'll keep what I like for the next iteration and change what I don't. So far, I like the lips but I definitely want to change the angle of the brows to make her more assertive. I think I'm going to play with her freckles, too. Well, anyways, here's Poppy 1.0 :XD:

    58. Oh gosh! She is gorgeous! I don't have your vision for this doll in my mind so all I see is an amazing face-up! Did you manage to hide the scratches? I can't see them at all now.
I had to say that I adore the freckles just as they are....you are so clever.
      Welcome to Poppy 1.0

What size eyes are you using in her?
And have you tried smaller ones at all?

    59. Thanks, @Jane! The sealant seems to have filled in and covered the scratches pretty well. She's wearing 16mm Enchanted Doll marble eyes. I haven't tried smaller, and I don't know if it's even possible to get these same colour and style eyes again! I got them at the Doll North dealer room but it seems that Enchanted Doll is not offering the same colour anymore.
