Repair Marks on doll's torso

Jul 8, 2023

    1. I bought a 19 year old doll, Volks SD13 Isao Nanjo 1st edition, and he's obviously a bit yellowed because of his age, but I noticed these whitish marks on his lower torso, particularly near his navel.
I don't know if it's old sealant or just the resin aging, but if anyone could help me identify what's caused the marks and how to best clean it without damaging the resin, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance for any replies!

    2. Have you tried using a magic eraser?

    3. I haven't yet, but I have some on hand because he must have been stored in pleather shoes that disintegrated on his feet and left black marks.
I'll gently give the eraser and some water a go and see what happens.
      Thanks for your help!

    4. It looks like sealant residue to me, especially if you gently run your nail on it and feel some degree of texture. I hope it won’t be too hard to remove! It has to be quite old!

    5. It does look like sealant. I would try washing it off with a suitable solvent (anything safe for removing face ups should work).

I would only use the eraser as a very last resort for something like this. Keep in mind that it's and abrasive. If you are not super careful to only rub at the sealent itself you may end up buffing the undamaged surface around it as well while the surface under the sealent is protected. Especcially in an older doll this could give a blotchy colour difference to the area.
