Aesthetics Marian, Or-Doll Hayami ~ in progress & done

May 2, 2015

1. I thought it would be interesting to share this faceup, because I came to a point where I overdid it again, the blushing looked a bit cakey on close inspection and it wouldn't take on any additional pastel color. I then added freckles to somewhat cover it up, they'll have to disappear when I redo his face, won't miss them! So what I learnt is, I have to stop myself sooner.
As for the watercolor pencils, I'm still looking for a real good brand. Either the ones I have could be better quality or it's my technique that's not good enough. Problem is, when I take the color with the wet brush (I always make a few strokes on paper before I aim at the face) the pigment doesn't dissolve equally and I feel like it depends on good luck whether it'll have the right conistency or not. Luck... or practice? Especially the white is difficult. The strokes get visible only a couple seconds later when they start drying. Personally, I like the first photo best and am looking forward to our next time.
If you have ideas/advice, that would be great.

2. I love the mouth! You did an absolutely gorgeous job, it looks real! The only crit I may have is that the veins on the temples look a little dark in my opinion, like they could have been blended to look more like they are underneath the skin, but that may just be a stylistic preference. Looks beautiful!

3. I will try to use pastels for veins, instead of the aquarell color, I'd love to get an "underneath the skin"-effect. Thank you so much LoudOwl for liking the faceup, and for your great advice!

4. I loves him......*3*......great face up....;)

5. I think he looks great

6. I like the concept a lot! The eyebrows look a bit dark against the hair, though. The red blushing on the tip of the ear is v adorable

7. Thank you so much... I am sorry I didn't even notice the latest comments :blush! I totally agree about the eyebrows, there's much room for improvement and if I get to redo him, I will definitely try to make them lighter (but keep the red ear tips).

8. It's quite the lovely faceup actually. I especially like the lips, lovely job on those and the eyebrows while a little dark to match the hair are very nicely done. They look quite thick and bushy, as if you could touch them and they'd be fluffy. XD

Can I ask though why you are using a brush with watercolour pencils? I'm just curious because I haven't heard of that before, usually people just use the watercolour pencils either dry or slightly damp and draw the lines on with just the pencil. I'm just a little confused there, but you are doing a job job and I would definitely say keep up that good work, it's really brought your doll to life. XD

9. this is so beautiful!! your application and technique is really something to envy
