Yea, a window is not a good place for display, but it would have been funny. As it is, I am still looking for a good spot for him, for now he just hangs out wherever I worked on him last. He is tall enough that none of the available shelfs could fit him.
Hello! Didn't realize there was a thread for these awesome trolls yet. Mine in ljung arrived last weekend, and I've been hard at work trying to make a suitable wig since...my first one didn't really fit, but I got a tolerable photo out of it. [/url]Mara Creatures Ramunder by
Thank you @Lillith ! I like it too. I'm going to retry that faux fur soon, once I figure out how to make a pattern for that head....
@themonsteryoho After much head scratching I made a soft cap that is kept on like this: Tha cap istelf is just a piece of mesh with all the surplus removed in darts. The elastic is what helps the wig keep its shape and stay on. I'm sure a similar method could be used for faux fur, just with a bit more attention to direction.
@Lillith oh that’s awesome. Thank you for the tip & photo! Definitely going to give that a try. I might even just be able to strap some elastic on the one I already made and salvage it…fingers crossed. I take it the ears still fit in ok?
Yes, as long as the elastic isn't too thick and the ears are positioned well into their sockets it works very well. Here he is with the wig finished: And a side view of the wig cap with the face plate on under the spoiler. Spoiler: Side view
@Lillith he looks cool! I like his distinguished grey hairs. Thanks again for sharing your method. Finally got a wig to fit the way I wanted! Made a matching tail puff to celebrate. I don't quite have a handle on posing him yet, so he's doing a lot of sitting around.
That looks so good! Love the tail puff too. Same here, he is quite cumbersome. I made a stand for mine and I have managed to get his arms to mostly behave, but I am still thinking about what to do with his lower part. I do want him to be able to stand reliably on his own, but I suspect that will require some modding that I am not yet prepared to commit to.
Thanks all! Yeah, I'm at a loss for standing him up so far, which I kind of expected. I was surprised to find he's even heavier than the 70+ cm dolls I'm used to.
I've just been trying to counterbalance him, as yet. I've never actually wired a doll. But for this guy I might give it a whirl.
It isn't difficult - I find that one long wire going up one leg into the upper torso and then making a U-turn to go down the other leg halps a lot with leg and body stability in some dolls. The wire basically follows the same path as the elastic. I use armature wire as it lasts for more bending and posing before snapping (at the points it's bent most often) and needing replacing. I've heard some people prefer plastic-coated electrical wire but I've not tried that. It's more flexible but that might not help with stabiity for standing. Teddy
I might just try that sometime this weekend. Thank you for the advice! (This thread has been such a good mini-example of why I enjoy this site. You're all so helpful. I feel like I learn something every time I log on. )
So, time passes, how are you guys doing with your trolls? I am getting used to his size and weight, but I still struggle a bit with his posing. But at the same time, I LOVE his size. Compared to my other dolls he is an absolute gigant and it's so satisfying. Uhm, I suppose that sounds a bit weird, but perhaps you understand how I mean? Here he is posed with a tiny little Maskcat lady. Sorry about photo quality, I am still not good at photographing things this big.
Here is an old picture when I first got my Ramunder doll. Also big thanks to @Lillith for telling me about this thread it was so nice to read and see what other people who also love Ramunder have said and uploaded here. So much creativity, I love the wigs
@senseihinata Good to see you here! I love the pictures of your troll interacting with your other dolls. Since you are new, you may not be aware that it's only one image per post here in the discussion forum. Feel free to post more images in the galleries or other relevant parts of DoA, though! Edit to add: You can also hide the extra images under a spoiler.
Oh thank you so much for telling me. I didn't know that, and I had totally missed it when reading the rules. I will remember it next time and I can also edit the last one if needed
It happens. DoA is a big place and there is a lot to take in. Editing the post is probably best, just to comply. Don't feel bad about it, it's an easy fix.
