Hello! I’m looking for artists/companies that make male BJDs with strong-boned, realistic or semi-realistic facial sculpts -- defined cheekbones, hollow cheeks, noticeable brow ridge, and strong jawline. Demiurge Dolls' sculpts are the most impressive I've seen so far, so I would like to know if there are others I should also check out as I'm still on the hunt for the perfect character shell.
I was also going to say Granado sounds like they fit everything you want! But another option, if you're up for it, is modding a doll to be exactly what you want. When I was trying to get my boy perfect, I just could not find a doll thin enough...so I got the thinnest in his scale that I could find, the right sculpt for his face and.....sanded him like crazy! Opened his eyes, heavily hollowed out his cheeks, shaped his chin and jaw line, sanded his nose and upper lip and shaped his forehead. Then sanded the body as well, to hollow out his stomach, hips and collarbones, add rib and chest bone definition (though that is IS limited by thickness of the resin...I wanted him thinner, but the body couldn't take it.) It's a LOT of work, but it's worth it to get that perfect vision. Spoiler: Cooper, Before and After Mods
Iplehouse and SartoriaJ were my first check-ins -- and I follow the latter's new releases pretty closely. Handsome, rugged, sure Haven't found that "chiseled but pretty in melancholy" vibe yet. @AllSmokeAndMirrors @CloakedSchemer Granado's variety really surprises me. Their Vindoll collection is my favourite and I'm just so sad their best sculpts (and generally most of their sculpts) are out of stock Do you know if they do re-releases? @Christina_Xx Size doesn't matter so much as the sculpt. Though there is one Raccoon doll I've been mulling over modding from a smiling sculpt into one much moodier and with fuller lips. Just thought I should see as many options I can before deciding. @lutke @carterhaugh So much character in JR doll's sculpts, I love it! Do you know where I can find more about the artist? I'm guessing Stacy's Pink Ocean is their international dealer, right? @babezoid Followed! Thanks for the rec. I'm always on the lookout for artist dolls with unique sculpts such as these as I feel I may have the best luck in finding what I want in that sphere. @CloakedSchemer Your modded doll came out wonderfully! That's a lot of labour (and resin dust), I'd imagine I don't know if I'd be brave enough to do it myself, but chances are, I might have to if nothing comes along that truly strikes my fancy.
they are gorgeous! lovely realistic planes to their faces, not just solely at the cheekbone or brow; you can almost feel the bones. i recommend emailing Stacy to ask, as she is very helpful and can liase directly with the dollmaker for you. i have done so when ordering LuuusiQ dolls (whom you might also like for female sculpts - though I will be modifying one into a man.)
It was definitely a lot of labour, and I was for sure masked up, wearing gloves and wet sanding to cut down on the dust! It took courage too, and I only took the risk because I had a spare head with a ton of yellowing that I wasn't too worried about ruining. Definitely recommend practicing first on a junk head/cheap head! But if you can find a sculpt that already works perfectly, that is by far the best option! I'm not sure if Granado does re-releases, but they do pop up secondhand somewhat regularly, it seems.
