Wearables Making Outfits from Dress-up Games as Real Doll Clothes!

Sep 1, 2024

    1. I play a few dress-up mobile games, and I've always wanted to try recreating some of the clothes in doll scale!

I have a lot of different ideas for various outfits from various games, but this time I decided to go with an older outfit set from CocoPpa Play.

Here's my general idea for how it would work on a doll (with some alterations). I'm making it for my Dollfie Dream mainly

This is probably gonna be a long term project due to how many pieces there are and how much effort it will take to source the right fabrics and trims for this.

      Planned tasks so far:

Alter pinafore pattern to make the vest
      - ✔️ pattern altered
      - ✔️ first draft sewn (needs small alteration still)
      - ✖️ check fit on doll
      - ✖️ find fabric, embroider gold detailing
      - ✖️ buy scale gold trim (also for capelet)

Mix blouse and skirt patterns together to make OP dress pattern
      - ✔️ several possible blouse patterns found
      - ✔️ several possible skirt patterns found
      - ✖️ pattern alteration/mixing needed
      - ✖️ 3-layer ruffle sleeve pattern not found (might need to alter generic ruffle sleeve pattern)

      Make round apron with ruffle
      - ✖️ find pattern
      - ✖️ find fabric with in-scale black and white checkers or buy custom
      - ✖️ buy black ruffle premade

      Make stand-collar capelet
      - ✖️ find capelet pattern
      - ✖️ find stand collar pattern
      - ✖️ buy scale cross beads

Make accessories (hat and travel trunk)
      Hat:

      - ✖️ create pattern for hat
      - ✔️ buy foam for base
      - ✖️ make draft copy from cardstock to check size and fit
      Trunk bag:
      - ✖️ buy some kind of rectangular box form (wood, plastic, cardboard; does not need to open; should be light)
      - ✖️ create fabric pieces and handle (straps, gold bits?)
      - ✖️ buy gorilla glue fabric glue

So far I've worked on the vest, I'll update the process pictures of that in the next post!

    2. Process part 1: Vest

For the vest draft, I used the pinafore pattern from this pattern set and altered it to have more of a vest shape

Just by cutting out the pattern in fabric and pinning it in place, it already looked pretty decent.

The lapels went through four iterations, from too small to too big to just right (pls ignore the awful stitching, I promise I actually try when it's not a draft!)

And I ended up with this draft copy!

I still have to test the actual fit on the doll (she's waiting on a new torso right now that's currently in the mail), but I can already tell the shape is a bit off.

I marked out where I'd have to make some shape changes, but I want to wait to alter the pattern until after I can test the fit and make sure there's no issues with the general construction.

As for the accessories, I already purchased some cheap foam sheets for the hat.
I'm going to make a pattern from cardstock and test some sizes before I go ahead with the foam.

    3. I love seeing the muslin test pieces! I need to try that, thank you for the inspiration!

    4. This is such a cool idea! I've got a couple Moe Can Change and Dream Girlfriend outfits I've considered making for dolls, but you're obviously much farther along with planning. :blush

    5. Looks good! For the apron pattern, Dollybird 8 has a pretty good one. I have a very large collection of lolita sewing books so I might have a few patterns that might help, although they'll be human scale.
I already digitised the apron pattern myself if you'd like to use it:

Print on A4 paper and it should be the right size for 1/3 scale. The seam allowances are supposed to be 5mm

    6. It really is helpful! I usually do test copies when I'm trying a pattern for the first time.

There's SO many DGF outfits I've wanted to make for dolls too! The designs are more complex than most cocoppa stuff though, so I haven't gotten around to trying them.

Ooh thank you so much! I'll definitely try it out :thumbup
