Making Endelion~ IMG HEAVY ~ *NWS* ~

Apr 27, 2011

    1. So, last night I FINALLY started on my new doll, Endelion!

She will be a 54 cm Dark elf, when completed. I'm making her out of Premier Ladoll, and may or may not cast her, I'm still deciding. Anyways, I'm really exited about her! She's not my first doll, I've made 4 others using sculpy clay, but they were all really badly made, and most of them broke. (there were 3 tinies, and 1 small msd). So, this will be my first SD scale. I hope you like her! :o

So, this is her concept diagram. Nothing really special about her build, I know. But this will be my first time making a 3 part torso, so I'm pretty exited~! (I'm also going to try and make a joined foot!)

and last night I started on her head. I spent about 2 hours on it, and I'll probably finish it today. (I still have to sculpt her lips and ears.)

I'm VERY happy with how the arch of her nose came out~

(ok, there were supposed to be 2 pictures there that aren't showing up, sorry guys) :(

And I built her head around an aluminium foil base, so she has a freaky, evil glowy eye look. Here's what she looks like after I took that out...

      ah, much better!

So, I'll hopefully have more up soon! Enjoy~!

    2. UPDATE : Endelion now has LIPS!!!! I'll be working on her ears a little later~ (I really hate sculpting lips...)

    3. Looking good so far! :D Keep up the good work!

    4. Thank you! I have her head finished now, but my camera is acting up. So hopefully, I'll have some pictures of the finished head up for tomorrow~

    5. Sounds great! :D

    6. Eeep! I have SO many new pictures to post, but I can't get them on yet, sorry everyone! (hopefully, they'll be up soon~)

    7. I'm really curious to see your progress. Good luck!

    8. Yaaaay! I finally have pictures to show you! So, I feel like I got a lot done! I completely finished her face and torso, and now, she has a wig cap! (I'm starting to weft the hair for it now, but that's going to take a while, hehe)

      Her pretty face~ :love

      With her headcap on

I got tired of looking at her with no eyes, so I made some temporary paper ones XD
(She already loves posing for the camera!)

      The First Armhole Completed!!!

More pictures in the next post!!!

    9. Can I just say I hate sculpting arm holes?
      (oh, and both armholes done!)

Hehe, she has a boy's chest right now :o

      ...I like Domo :arrr

I really like the way she looks from this angle, a back shot with Endelion looking up~

      And, her shoulder blades

      One more post, sorry folks!

    10. ...another back shot
(she's embarrassed because she's still flat chested)

But no more!!! (this is where it stops being work safe)

By now, they've completely dried, and I've smoothed her skin down a lot, but I don't have any pictures of that yet. You'll see that when I have the rest of her abdomen done!

Well, until next time, I hope you like her!!! :blush

    11. eep! Hopefully, I'll have updates for you soon!

    12. Wow, I haven't worked on this in 2 years.....well, I'm back, and finally back to sculpting!

So, I've scrapped the idea of doing a 3 part torso, it was too much work, so I merged it into a 2 part torso. I also realized the ears looked horrible, and tore them off. If anyone has input as to whether or not elf ears or human ears would look better, I would love to hear from you. I also re-did the headcap, destroyed my partially constructed legs, and will be remaking them soon. Finally getting her sanded properly too!

    13. oooh, I'm almost finished modifying her neckline, SO PRETTY!

    14. ...I'm going to post more pictures tomorrow, does anyone care?

    15. She is looking lovely =) more photos, good for you that you can pick up a project again after a break! I always end up restarting probably why after 2/3 years i have still never finished a doll! :p

As for elf or human ears... hmmm age old go with what you love =) (i loooove big elf ears)

    16. she has a very classic prettiness. I really love her gentle profile and the arch of her nose :) (I like her elf ears by the way )

    17. :o Thank you guys so much! I'm really glad that I got back to working on her too, I'm having so much fun with her. Finally got the Styrofoam to make her arm and leg cores, so that's my project for this week! I can't wait to show you how she looks with her eyes in, ^///^

and sorry I'm late posting updates, ended up being out of town this weekend. So, here are her new pictures! I've finished fixing her hips and butt, made a foundation to sculpt her ears onto, and adjusted her chest a bit. Also, I have decided to go with elf ears, yay!

the bottom image is my idea for the facial markings I'm going to give her. Once I can have her cast, I'm planning to sell the duplicates, and my personal doll will be dyed blue~

    18. Alright, just finished the cores for Endelion's arms and legs!

with a new scale drawing, since the last one is long since missing :sweat
      [IMG]]

      First one cut out!

I imagine she's all like, "What the fuck? THAT'S an arm?

This green Styrofoam is ridiculously crumbly. Seriously, I rounded it by hand.

      Legs done!

Now for the fun part...cleaning. Yay. :dead

      :o

    19. well, now I'm working on the legs! Starting on the first one!

yep, it looks like crap so far

as you can see, I made it much shorter, as I realized the long one looked awkward

the socket needs to be widened a bit, it doesn't fit quite right

and, here it is with a bit more definition added to the thigh!

    20. alright, quick status update- Her first thigh is finished, but her calf still has no definition. I've started the form for her second leg, but it's taking forever to dry. I'm also considering reconstructing her hip-sockets, to make them a little smoother. I just don't know how to go about that yet, but I'll figure it out!

My grandma also brought me a ton of her old crafting stuff yesterday, omg, I have the COOLEST yarn to make a dark blue and black dreadlock wig now!!!

    21. uhg, think I made her thigh too narrow. I'm not sure it looks right, or if it has enough strength to support her body weight. I HATE making hip sockets! Will post pics later to get your opinions as to whether or not it looks ok.

    22. So, here's what she looks like so far

up close from the front, it still looks pretty good

but from the side, it still looks weird. I can't tell if her thigh is too skinny, or her butt is too wide

      from the back, it's alright

and I'm not sure it bends quite right

      and, here's everything together

so, what do you think the problem is? I'm widening the thigh socket, and going to enlarge the thigh, should I sand the butt down too?

also, I'm going to try doing something like this to the thigh (the seam giving it 180 degree rotation)

    23. I think "your" bumb is just a personal taste thing... the one from island to my eye looks alot flatter/smaller so if you looking at that then yours it will look different... i actually think the island one is a bit flat for my taste, anyhooo looking good so far

Edit: adding some meat to the thigh and enlarging socket like you say will help with the balance (visual and physical) i'd leave the sand butt till that is done cause it could change her look quite abit

    24. Thank you for the tips JetPack, they are greatly appreciated~ I've gone ahead and made her thigh just a hair thicker in the back, but I did decide to decrease the size of her butt (once again, only a little bit), and it looks great! Can't wait to post more pictures, I've also enlarged her thigh sockets a little, started fleshing out her second leg, re-did her shoulder blades, and...yeah, I think that's it XD

    25. alright, here's an update~

Halfway done with her thighs! The top segments work fantastically, and have great mobility. The bottom segments, I'm still having a little trouble with. They fit together, but I'm making the segment that joints them together a little wider, and I haven't quite gotten both her legs to match yet, :sweat
      [IMG]

But still, she looks great from the side! Yay! :o

    26. uhg, once again re-constructing the hip joints, this time for increased poseablilty

    27. I can't wait to see her done. I love the idea for her eye make up. She's looking great and you got her so smooth.

    28. :o Thank you so much! I haven't done much on her since I'm taking summer classes right now, but I hope to post more pictures soon! The eye makeup is sort of a fusion of my ideas, and work done by Stella (god her work is gorgeous!). and thank you for noticing the texture, I've spent WAY more time than I would like to admit smoothing her down, :sweat

      <3

    29. She is looking really good so far, but I think the head is too big for this body. Now it's looking like she will be only 5-5.5 heads tall, while normally there should be 7-8 heads.

    30. thank you~ And yeah, I'm a bit afraid of the same, so I've decided to re-do her legs. I'm making them wider and longer, which should help her proportions a bit. I'm also re-doing her legs, hope that making her shoulders wider helps :sweat

    31. alright, so it's time for another image dump! :o So, as I said, I destroyed what I had done with her arms and legs so far...

      My poor little cripple...

but, now she has half a leg!

I still need to smooth it down, but I'm really happy with the shape, and how it fits into the socket
      [IMG]

I also finally started fleshing out her ears, but I've only started one of them
      [IMG]

      oooh, she's just so pretty!!! :o <3
      [IMG]

I wonder if this is what being a mommy feels like *shot* XD

    32. on another note, these are TOTALLY the eyes I plan to get her when she's done!

      http://ersaflora.ipower.com/?p=1839

seriously, if any of you are looking for eyes, the ones on this site are fantastic~

    33. so, I will be taking a break from working on Endelion. I do have more pictures to post, but I'm taking a brief hiatus, to work on a costume for an anime convention next month. If anyone's interested, I can totally post a picture of that once it's done, but only if you guys want to see it. Anyways, my last pre-hiatus Endelion photo dump will be up later today :o

    34. alright, con's over, getting back to work!

    35. finally, a photo update!

So, I had to start her thigh over, since the last one shattered. Still need to sand the leg and hip segment, but so far so good.

and here's her other thigh, still very much in progress
      [IMG]

I tried making her a new set of eyes, I'm happy with the size but they don't look very good...

Here they are in her head. Much better here.

    36. LaDoll can be very frustrating. I love the stuff, but it takes so long to dry!

    37. So, a project update! Not much visible progress, mostly sanding. I'm also reworking her internat structures, starting with her hip sockets, to make everything work together more nicely. I've also carved out some of her inner torso to make it fit her abdomen better. So far, so good =)

    38. She's looking very promising! The only thing is (like someone already pointed out) her head proportion to the rest of the body. It's already quite big and it will look even larger with a wig on. I think if you make her lower torso piece bigger that would help, it would also put her leg size into perspective. I totally love her bust! It's very elegant.

    39. Aww, thank you so much! It was really fun getting all the curves to flow, busts are fun. And I agree, I am a bit concerned about her head size. I might make her hips larger, but first I plan to finish her arms. I'm really hoping that if her shoulders are wider, her head will balance out. It's still very much trial and error for now.:o

    40. Aah! So much to post! I've only been able to sculpt late at night since I've been at work so much this week, but I have pleanty of pictures to share! Just no time to upload them...

    41. alright, so no new pics yet, but her hips are wider, her lips are more centered in her face, her nose just slightly more realistic, and her second thigh is on it's way to being....useable :sweat and she has part of a knee joint piece. So far, so good :))

anyways, I'm just curious. I don't get many posts in here other than my own, so who out there is really following this? I hope to have her cast and sell her at some point, but I want to know that people are actually interested in her first. (And to all of you who are following, or have posted, thank you :o )

    42. I thought her face looks very expressive and her body is elegant. Your bjd making journey certainly is inspiring, thank you for sharing.

    43. :love wow, thank you so much~ I'm really glad you enjoy it, and I look forward to seeing your journey when you start sculpting :o

    44. Aaaw dont worry about other people posting , pritty sure i posted around page 3 or so and have looked at most updates since, i just did a first print out of my first digital doll and been very distracted with that, most of us here i would think have our own distractions, so no or little comment really does not meen you should stop pushing for you goal (but your on page 5 of a thread so you have more than most!)

The thought that has kept me going though 2/3 years of flops is that you really have to do somthing YOU like, if you find someone else that likes it its just a bonus :)

She is looking good dont give up!

    45. :o thank you so much JetPack. I know that comments from other people aren't the most important thing, but I really appreciate them, and yours just now has been a great confidence boost~ Also, congratulations on your first 3_D doll! That's awesome! I'll have to check her out now :))

Also, I think I'll have more pictures up tonight, Endelion's second thigh is finally starting to look human!

    46. So, here I just have a large photo dump, because I've been taking lots of pics, because I like to :p anyways, enjoy!

    47. she has such a lovely profile hun :)

really want to see her with some nice glass eyes in there (i am a sucker for the reflection of eyes just adds so much life)

    48. :o mmmmm, thank you so much!!! I agree though, she needs some gorgeous glass eyes~ I have a decent pair of acrylic eyes, but they're too small, and the wrong color. I found a few pairs on saffron doll I plan to buy for her though~

    49. She's really coming along! I like that you're being brave and tackling some more complex joints! Keep going :)

    50. :o thank you so much~ I actually got the idea for her hip joints from your Ruse, she's so adorable! I'm hoping her knees come out as well~

    51. alright! So, I haven't made much progress, and we have college to thank for that. I'm having trouble getting her right thigh to match the left, but hopefully I'll be able to work on that this evening. Probably won't post more pictures until something significant is finished, like maybe her calves.

    52. Yay! I now have primer! Maybe I'll start priming tonight, but there are so many pieces I'm still tweaking! :sweat

    53. #firstworldproblems, I have primer I want to use, but it's optimal conditions for use are when the weather is below 50 degrees F, and below 85% humidity...I live in Florida XD

    54. just so you know, I'm now posting my dolls on Tumblr! So, if any of you are on Tumblr, please take the time to check it out, maybe even share this with your friends who aren't on the joint! :o

    55. finally, more pictures~

You may have noticed that Endelion now has a bored sister waiting for her, :XD

but more important than that, SHE HAS A LEG!!!

I'm happy with the range of motion, and it holds its position well enough :blush

I can't wait to see her strung together again~ And once it stops raining every day, I can start priming!

    56. Looks really nice! The motion of the knees are awesome. I also really like how well the parts flow into eachother, nice work!

    57. :o thank you so much! I'm still having a little trouble with them, they don't hold their position very well. But, they do look great!

    58. so, I took a quick break to work on this;

but now I'm back to our regularly scheduled dolls!

So, when I started priming, I didn't know if my primer would work. Therefor, I needed to test it somewhere inconspicuous. So, I went with her face XD. God am I glad it worked!

She also finally has complete legs!

      They rest fairly well,

but tend to snap back like this

I'm afraid at this point that she won't be able to stand. Does anyone have any advice for fixing it?

    59. Thank you for showing your process. It is inspiring and informative. Your hip joint looks interesting. I like the way it slants slightly outward. Makes a cool body line.

    60. I have dolls that tend to do that. I call them my sit models >_>;; I don't really know what's going to stop it though, but I like how far you are already! And the piece of art you made is really beautifull
