+1 on the faux leather hate. Such an impractical, wasteful product. So many articles of clothing for both myself and dolls turned to garbage. And I'm quite gentle with my things. Still mourning my favourite jacket turning into a peeling mess, when it would have lasted my lifetime if it were real leather. Next time I'm saving up for the genuine article. Love to see you sticking with this project. It's really coming together! I love how the horse's eyelids turned out, complete with lashes.
I found even more faux leather peeling on the tip of his boot. I am so mad. Cobbling has been added to the Quest List!!! Edit: I am dumb and forgot to put the photo 20221126_102719 by Kaxen6, on Flickr
I love everything about this project. Thank you so much for sharing it for us all to enjoy! He looks great now. That soutage work is amazing. The horse looks so alive. Over all proportions looks wonderful.
I am so happy for you! What a wonderful job! I wish I could attend the con and admire your work live, and meet such an accomplished artisan as yourself! Just sit back and enjoy all the googly eyed people who will crowd around your booth in awe! Thank you for sharing you process with DoA! I'm eager to see what you'll do next! (After a well deserved rest, that is!)
I did get a lot of nice compliments during the convention! Next year's doll convention theme is Medieval Fantasy, so my next project journal after I finish the last bits of my boy (shako 2.0, sword belt, pelisse, portmanteau, etc) might be 3D printing armor and making new medieval horse tack. Will be much less exhausting to reuse this horse! I want to do a jointed horse project, but that is probably my next 3-or-so-year project because engineering is hard! But probably much smaller than 70cm scale because I don't have the space for a 70cm herd (as much as I want to! lol).
Oh this turned out SO good!! I've been watching this project for a long time now and you really did a spectacular job of it.
If it's not too much trouble, could you share more photos of your work? I'd like to admire more of the work you did on Parzival and his horse.
Oh for sure! I can't decide if I want to get a green screen backdrop or a sky backdrop and some fake grass... but the fake grass available is too manicured lawn looking. The hussars are meant to be running through the countryside not like... football astroturf xD The dry weather is making his wig look like a disaster. x_x Also need to add more stitching to the flat braid. It's so stiff it keeps wanting to lift off his pants if I pose him too much. 20221129_081356 by Kaxen6, on Flickr 20221129_081452 by Kaxen6, on Flickr 20221129_081502 by Kaxen6, on Flickr 20221129_082041 by Kaxen6, on Flickr
I think he looks great! I'm excited to see a medieval version, too... This has been so much work and he looks amazing! If you want some faux grass with more natural variation, try a fake moss mat--you can get them pretty big. It'd be short grass, but much less manicured-lawn-looking.
This turned out so great! It was really awesome to see it step by step and even the steps that didn't work out! And the end result is just amazing. The amount of detail you've put in! Wow, just wow!
I'm super impressed by the dedication you put into this, by any chance does the horse have a name? I've just been calling him hjörse.
I loved seeing your progress and your wonderful work!! Thanks for sharing. The horse!!! Brutus turned out so well!! Also- ah, yes, the wrinkles vs. poseability battle... I hope you find a solution! I work at a local puppet theater and weighing how well you want something to move against how smooth you want the fabric to look is so frustrating. Tbh though I think Brutus looks excellent. I just really resonated with that specific struggle.
Amazing project, and it came out SO good! You are definitely an inspiration to start our own long term projects.
Brutus came out amazing! I've enjoyed following along your progress on this adventure. The results are just awe inspiring. How cool to have such a big boy for your dolls!
