Props Making a spear

May 29, 2016

    1. To give my doll a more ~magical~ feeling, I decided to make a spear for her.

As material I used some Aura quarz crystals and an arrowhead necklace I got for cheap online:

The process itself was pretty simple, I just carved a notch into a wooden stick and tied it together with golden wire. It looked a little empty, so I just grabbed some old jewelery and beads I had lying around and added them to the tip.

And here one more to show the Spear at full length, its about 65cm long.

I was considering painting the shaft with gold patterns, what do you think? Would that be too much?

    2. That staff is amazing. I think gold patterns on the staff would look amazing on it and give it that extra magical feel. The other thing you could do is wrap some fabric around the middle of it for a grip.

    3. Hey, the grip is a great idea! Maybe I can get some fabric scraps in the same colour as the tip. Thanks!

    4. No problem, I made plenty of staffs for spears when I was doing props for a stage production and hand grips seem to just make it pop if you do not wish to go through painting it or fear painting will become to much :3

    5. Wow this looks amazing and really fits your doll. :3
Maybe I should make something like that someday too it's quiet inspiring ^-^

    6. Thank you! And absolutely, you should :D It was easier than I thought. I'd love to see the result if you decided to make something similar!

    7. Ok I guess I should give it a try then ^^ thank you!

    8. That's cool! I love the intense blue you chose. It definitely makes it feel more like a magical object than a conventional weapon.

    9. Thanky you! It's even more beautiful in nature, it shines in subtle purple and red hues. I think it's titanium plated or something? I just found the pendant and thought "wow, i need to do something with it" :D

    10. ahh So pretty! Everything comes together so well. I really love the stone you chose :love.

    11. Thank you! I'm glad everyone likes it so much :D

    12. Thanks for sharing how you made the spear. I certainly will try this method with a scythe blade I have lying around (as you do). :)

    13. That is epic looking! And I think the gold patterning would only enhance it--especially if you are going for a fantasy feel.

    14. @Lael Ohhh, I know that feeling, I keep the weirdest things around :D

@Scholar thanks! I think I'll actually go through with it and paint on some patterns.

    15. So, after dropping off the earth for a while, I decided to only paint the base and the tip with a few, simple patterns:

I meant for it to look a little like circuit boards, considering that it's supposed to belong to a character who is a technomancer.

The tip only got a few rings, all the bangling and beads are busy enough, I feel.

    16. That is such a great idea! I was about to say the body of the spear looked a little bland but that gold markings did the trick. It might be fun to try and add texture or maybe carvings to the body of the spear.
