I love my floating head collection, and wanted a way to both display them and making wig making less awkward. I have seen some very lovely busts by several companies and thought trying to make one myself would give me a taste of bjd making on a much simpler scale My BluePrint I forgot to take a picture of my armature before I laid the base clay on Here is my base level of clay over my armature Now I have to wait 48 hours to ensure its fully dry so I can continue building the shapes up to my blueprint
Very cool! How do you plan to mount the anchor for the string/elastic inside the body like it shows in your second set of drawings?
For now the goal is to anchor on a deep hook like the second drawing shows. But after watching others people’s sculpting developments I’m trying to decide if I change the base for stability if the anchor method will need to change too
Small Update I managed to slip out my armature without any trouble I quickly reached the point where I believe I should do some sanding and smooth out to better see where to build up more or make changes, after making two pass throughs I had gotten used to the changes and felt I wasn't making any real progress (outside of adding cleavage) but now that I've compared the pictures from my base clay foundation and this up day I can see I have done more than I believed Beyond Sanding to smooth everything out for easier visuals, I also plan to slice it in half so I can strengthen the inside clay with apoxie so I can string for testing stability and function with a decreased chance of crumbling my project.
School has me swamped But I did some framework work. Which I ofcourse forgot to take good photos of rushing to finish before class started I checked if it fit msd size heads and woot! it did. I can't tell if the body is actually tiny or just looks tiny because it I stopped before the shoulder joint, and if that was there would it look more in size. It took me several days to slice her in half safely inbetween life. but I managed, and then was able to take some apoxie sculpt and reinforce the channel and add my little hook for the elastic to catch on. Today I decided to do a test "stringing" I used sewing flat elastic so its not a nice tight test but it works! I am still determined to clean up the bust to look as best as I can make it, hoping to correct this lovely slouched position my attempt as back muscles created This experiment has been so satisfying, I just want to start a million different sculpting projects now ugly or not its all about learning anyways
Sculpting really is so much fun! Nice work. It's so cool to learn the ins and outs of different kinds of mediums!
