Props Making a flat book cover more 3d

Dec 12, 2020

    1. So I got this 1:4 Hocus Pocus book and I love it! But I was thinking it would be cool to make the flat design pop out more. I was wondering, would it work if I used superglue gel to trace on top of the snake designs to give it more depth? I'm afraid to test without asking because I don't want to ruin the book cover. I also don't want to repaint or use colored gel for more depth because it'll kill the snake detail itself, so I figured maybe clear gel would do the trick?

    2. just do a sample off the book first, like blob some glue on a plastic sheet, dry, peel off, and move it around on the book cover to see if you like it. there is also something called "crystal resin" that needs uv to cure, which are what people use in those jewellery with flowers/stuff suspended in it, those are super clear and you wont lose the design.

    3. i think there are also other water based craft gels that are specifically for adding embellishments like that, that aren’t as permanent or smelly as superglue would be! I know i’ve seen them, but off the top of my head i’m not sure, so I’ll poke around. People might get that kind of effect from a different kind of glue too. :3nodding:

      edit:
here’s some that might work similar?

      modpodge brand:
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic - Brand - DIY Craft Supplies | Plaid Online

      judikins diamond glaze?
      https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B26II4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_P6y1FbXSSG2CM

and it seems like any clear glue from brands like Elmers, Aileens, etc (so... like the school glue or tacky glue just clear!) work well too! i’d just try it on a paper to see if you like the effect ^o^

    4. Mod Podge Dimensional Magic is great to use and doesn't smell. It takes a few hours to cure (I leave it overnight) and very easy to use.

Diamond Glaze and Rangers Glossy Accents are basically the same product as Dimensional Magic, iirc. You can find them all at Michaels.

    5. Thank you both! My local craft store has Mod Podge Dimensional Magic in stock, I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow and play with it.
