Hi everyone! So I recently picked up DreamValley's Florence from DDE, and love her! Only problem is, her neck is suuuuuper floppy. Quickly I realized that this is due to the fact that she's meant to be interchangeable with the human version of Florence, as the elastic in her neck goes from her head to the first joint of her neck. (You can see the resin hook and part of the s-hook here.) And here's the other side of it, with a hook that catches the elastic that goes through her body. I already plan on sueding her after I unstring and dye her. To improve stability, would sueding and a wire in the neck be enough, or should I also drill channels in the neck joint to allow a wire to go entirely through the body and neck to be more stable?
Try sueding and tightening the elastic first. DV engineers their dolls to have SUPER tight stringing - I'm surprised that the neck is floppy. Maybe they've been reading our joking reviews? Or maybe she was strung loosely to protect the doll. Friction helps a lot. I'm always hesitant to recommend drilling into dolls, especially if I don't know how thick the resin is. Different company, but I ran wire (plant wire from the hardware store) through a Dollmore Model F body, and it now stands unaided on heel feet. Wiring makes a HUGE difference.
I got the human and dragon for her and pretty sure it's a stringing thing cause mine doesn't flop. Tho I do also plan to have a wire in there as well cause the neck always seems to want to stay in the same position cause the way the petals line up. (it refuses to hold a pose long and with a noodle neck, I want noodle posing xD)
Oh! one thing that dunno if it'd help or not, but the direction of the neck base helps. I normally put it on with the side etched with an 8 being in the front
