Shojo-Chan submitted a new tutorial: Make Knit Tights from Socks Read more about this tutorial here...
Tights Tutorial for DoA by Stasia, on Flickr This wouldn't upload in the tutorial, but here are my two finished pairs on the girls.
This is genius! I'm definitely going to try it for my girl, she needs some knit tights and this is a perfect method
I'm so glad you found it useful! I think it would if you can find some relatively thin toddler or kid socks. I'd love to try it out for my tinies too, but it's a lot easier to find cheap adult socks. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled now though!
Oh gosh, that works AMAZINGLY well! I think this might be my favorite sock sewing tutorial, it looks like those were meant to be the entire time. Any tips for hunting down socks for SDs? thankfully i have no shortage of unworn knee high socks in the US 5-9 range for my MSDs, but i’ve never had to look for any sizes bigger so… But this would be super cute for my big girls and boys too.
Unfortunately, I don't have any SDs and I'm terrible at picturing size differences, but maybe you could look for thigh-highs in larger sizes? Maybe even kid's tights honestly - you'd just have to sew up through the elastic waistband on one or both sides to make them fit.
Wow! Socks are no longer dog toys, lol! Brilliant and easy! Love it! I'll post here when I get some made up, Woot!
Thank you! I'll keep this in mind once I start learning how to sew. I love socks so I have so many unused ones lol. I wonder if ankle socks would work for the real small dolls?
Ankle socks wouldn't work with the method I use in this tutorial, since the operative part is that the "cuff" of the sock is the same size as the doll's waist. You'd have to find baby socks or something very small to use this tutorial for tinies. If you're willing to do more sewing though, you could easily use the fabric from an adult sock to make tiny stockings.
