Just For Fun "Make a tinfoil outfit for your doll" Game

Aug 4, 2014

    1. The traditional 10th anniversary gift is tin or aluminum. Which may be tough to go shopping for anniversary presents! Tin lunchbox? It's definitely neat, but a thermal lunchbox is definitely more efficient. Tinware? Also a very cool idea, but by 10 years, most people have enough dishes around the house already!

So, here's a just-for-fun game to make an outfit for a doll out of tin foil! Fold, bend, and layer tin foil into something fun to wear! A tin foil evening gown? Fabulous! A set of armor? Genius! A hoodie and jeans? Awesome! Let's see what you guys can come up with!

Your submission to the game must be a minimum of 2 photos, no more than 750 pixels on the longest side. You should have a front and back photo. Please describe what your outfit is, in case the tin foil makes it hard to figure out!

Have some shiny tinny fun! :D

    2. such fun! is tape allowed? Also, where do we post pix?

    3. Sure, tape is fine! ^_^ And you can just pop em in here for all to see!

    4. Shiny! Could our dolls wear a body stocking underneath to prevent scraping/rubbing??

    5. Lady(?) Liberty!

    6. Awesome Aernath!

    7. That is glorious Aernath. XD
This looks like a lot of fun too~ I definitely want to try inbetween these competitions. >V> Now I need to decide just who to humiliate properly...

    8. Ichigo: "Give me your tired, your poor. . .
      . . . :|
      Stop staring at my butt!"

      :mwahaha

    9. @ellipses; of course you can use a body stocking! :) This is a just-for-fun game, so pretty much anything goes!

@aernath I'm loving that torch! XD

    10. Thanks, you guys!
Heh heh heh, xtal... you hear the voices too, don't you? ;)

Would you believe I forgot we had to have a shot of, erm, from behind? I went back inside, took it all off him, then went and messed with the two pictures I'd taken of the front... and when I went to see what size the photos should be, there it was: and back photo!
      Woops!
So I had to get it all back on him, get him outside, and get a photo. :sweat That's what I get for not paying enough attention, and forgetting!

Now, where are all the other entries? My Lady(?) is getting cold and lonely!

    11. I've been so busy doing wings! :) but I absolutely mean to do a foil outfit and I have it all designed. Sunday, if all goes as planned.

    12. Ichibuns! Hello, love, I haven't seen you in ages and you still cut a fine figure :)

      And Xtal... *giggle* :)

    13. Love it, Aernath! And just after the 4th of July!

I'm running about going to another con, so can't do any fun stuff. :(

... at least not for a week or two...

    14. Omg this is gonna be great. I'm out of town (and thus doll-less) but I will be watching the thread with amusement :D

    15. Here's my Delf boy Komori in his shiny Kimono! It actually looked pretty nice until I put it on him... :doh

    16. :D I can see the collar parts though - that's my favorite part of a kimono!

    17. This was actually the theme for a 1 hour long BJD project runway contest at Doll North a few years ago. Here's what I came up with during said contest:

    18. Was cleaning out the storage room this morning and realized I had some aluminum foil.... HyunBin got "volunteered" (EF Mir head on Dikadoll body). I had to use a stand since the lower torso joint is kind of mal-fitting and tends to slide around without warning. Also had to blur the seamlines of the background foamcore board sheets since they're developed a slight curvature over storage-time... All else is untouched. Light sources were ambient daylight and my new favorite mini LED flashlight.

Foil was folded, crimped and bent, including the front "hakama" pleats. A minimum of tape holds the inner waist sash together (there are 2 obi-like sashes plus 2 rope-like ties. The weapon was the last piece of foil, and the serrated edge came in handy!

    19. My crimps and bends didn't hold together too well =( I love how you used the cut edge of the foil for a saw edge!

    20. Very cool guys! I love how each of you has a different outfit!!

    21. Everyone looks like they're haveing fun I thought I'd join in :)

Babette is wearing the latest tinfoily dress made from only the finest Réynolds Wrap available.

FYI: tin foil left some dark marks on my doll, it came off with a magic eraser but I though I'd let yah know

    22. Hehe that's lovely Hieisfuzz~ I like how you even made her some foil sandals.
I'm looking forward to joining between challenges @v@ S-sometime!

    23. Don't worry Siber, Alkas is only staring because he's jealous his suit isn't that cool.

    24. Hahahaha! I knew mine was cheesy, but you guys are all doing some really fabulous things! So fun to see them all - even those who are Not Amused to be treated thusly. :XD:

    25. I just was going back through these and realized THE WEAPON! .... HOW cool is that? Bravo!

And wow, there are some more really nice outfits! I am so wanting to do this. Finish the major thing first, though...that's what has to happen.

    26. Well, you know...no tin foil clothing collection is complete without a sci-fi tin foil bathing/space suit.

      :mwahaha :mwahaha :mwahaha

      BEHOLD! Ophelia IIIIIN SPAAAAAACE!

She's got her handy tin foil ray gun. And a little tin foil pouch on her belt, you know to put stuff that you might need while in space.

She's got that random thing on her thigh that serves no purpose.

      Yep. Totally safe for space.

Oh, oh, oh, and space booooots! With high heels. Of course.

(I am so proud of the boots. :blush)

    27. And well you should be proud! Great outfit and accessories! Love the random thigh-thing comment too!

Did you color your foil some, or are those sienna tones on the boots and belt all light reflections?

    28. Aw, thank you. ^__^
      I couldn't resist. Hehe.

It is just regular silver tin foil, but I was using a rather yellow lamp to try and get some light on her for the photo since I really wanted to take the them against my dark blue door for more of a full space effect. Er, it was really dark so I was having a hard time of it. ^.^"

    29. Funtastic job! I really like the halo! And of course there would be heels! ;)

    30. Who would ever want to go into space without heels! I mean, you're already that much closer the the stars, right? ^_~

Ah, this was a lot of fun though. I really enjoyed seeing everyone else's outfits too. ^___^

    31. Ok, I have to say that I absolutely love this one. Major props to you!

I was trying so hard to get a puki in a zoot suit (just because the idea cracks me up) but all my efforts thus far have failed. I bow to everyone's prowess!

    32. Hahaha, a zoot suit would be hilarious. ^___^

    33. I'm in love w/Ophelia in Space LOL

    34. So since the three challenges are over, I was able to breath a bit and have some fun. I decided to give my unnamed Catish Reaa some love - though she didn't seem to impressed.
