Hello, I am planning on making a doll, to cast and sell a very limited number of, but I was wondering if it would be better to have it done by lumincast? I have a few questions Do they just make a mold? Or do they actually cast the resin for you? How much did it cost you? How was your exsperiance? Thanks!
Hi Lyrical, Is that Tom Banwell's company? If so they make the molds and will cast the resin if you want. I had a quote from them about 12 months ago (I'm relying on an old and fading memory here so forgive me if I'm wrong) but I think it was about $1,000 for the molds and about $75 for each casting .. more if you wanted the castings sanded. $1000 to make the mold does seem like a lot, but $75 for each casting is SO cheap. You'd only have to sell, maybe 10 dolls at $100 to get that mold making fee back, and that would be VERY, VERY EASY.
Oh .. I forgot to mention .. my quote was for a 12" doll. I guess that would make a bit of difference and the doll I was making was not a BJD .. she was just a head, small shoulderplate, lower arms and legs to knee. I could be wrong about the exact prices too because, at the time, I got quotes from Linda Kays .. http://www.lindakays.com/ .. as well so may have confused the prices!! I know Linda's quote for the molds was a lot cheaper than Tom's. Kaye
