My latest doll is finished at last! Painting her took a while, but I'm finally satisfied with how she came out. She stands about 29cm tall and has a removable back plate as well as a hinged wrist plate. All of her is hand-sculpted and will not be cast, and her UV-reactive eyes are glass beads with resin lenses. She was made using about 4oz of black Sculpey, aluminum foil and paper clips, and she was painted with acrylics and sealed with translucent liquid sculpey. Her mechanical skeleton, ports, and faux screws were painted with nail polish and acrylic wash, and her faceup and decals are acrylics with clear nail polish over them. She took maybe two and a half weeks to actually make - much of that was baking and re-baking her torso, as it was always cracking and changing how the back plate fit. I took these photos at a doll meet because I'm lazy and the lighting in my house is horrible. I will try to post more once my photography skills improve... Her WIP thread and all of those blurry photos are here. Here she is standing - her hip joints are wobbly due to the socket size, and I don't dare suede her... Here, you can see the little silver "pins" in her plating. And here's another blurry picture of her innards underneath her back plate... Sorry about that. And here are her eyes all lit up! This was taken underneath a table, but in actual dim light (and with the UV light a little closer...) they are amazingly bright! I'm really glad I made her in polymer clay - resin would not like the effect, I'm afraid... She may not be perfectly symmetrical, or even stand very well, but I think she's a good addition to my doll collection. She certainly has character.
Very cool! I really like her design! The black and white is a nice contrast to the complex metal bits, and the light up eyes are amazing!
Great job! One thing I would be cautious about--nail polish can actually 'dissolve' polymer clay due to the acetone in it, causing it to become tacky and even sticky over time. the website The Blue Bottle Tree (though it's main focus is polymer clay jewelry) has some very useful articles on what/what not to use with polymer clay--sealants, paints, etc. Hope you end up doing more, she really is beautiful!
