Hi everyone! I let this account sit untouched for 3 years as life got in the way of my plans and I was without the social battery or funds to really participate in this lovely hobby. But now I'm having more time and funds I figured it's a good time to actually start to contribute and hopefully make some friends I'm quite introverted and while I have been reading the forums a lot I find it hard to post. But I want to push myself out of my comfort zone a bit more. So hello I'm bunbee, I chose this nick because I adore bunnies, mine sadly passed away recently after a decade together </3 I'm based in EU, more specifically the Netherlands. I primarily collect dolls, not only BJD but also other types. I saw there's a dedicated space here for off-topic dolls which is awesome. I got interested in BJDs when I was still in primary school (around I think 2008 or 2009?). I was on deviantart and saw someone's adorable diorama featuring a Lati Yellow and had to know more. Following that moment my sister and I spent many, many hours browsing through various companies' online shops, picking our faves and daydreaming about these beauties. Many years have passed since but even though it took until last year for me to own a doll of my own I never stopped reading the forum, browsing bjd spaces and loving the beautiful pictures people take of their resin babies. Last year I happened upon a listing of a lady selling her "twins", both Custom House Ange Ai Uri's alongside other items I was interested in and because the girls were being sold together at a big discount (and not gonna lie, the whole twins thing really tugged at my heartstrings) I decided to pull the trigger and see if I will actually like BJDs. I'm sure many people can relate to wanting to "try it out" with a less expensive doll, after all we all know how expensive this hobby can be so I was hesitant to invest a lot and end up not liking it. So this was a great chance for me to see if it's for me and well, I'm absolutely hooked One of my (still nameless..I'm really struggling with coming up with good names) girls came with hommade faceup which is awesome as I felt less guilty about wiping it off and having a go at doing my own than I would've with a company one. The first try, which she is still wearing, turned out moderately bad but now I should have a bit more time on my hands so I look forward to sitting down and giving it another go. Recently got a lot of clothes for them off ebay and I'm super stoked to make them even more clotehs and accessories and to expand my small doll family (in the meantime I also got a heavily coveted by baby me Lati yellow SP Haru). I also think I want to try my hand at making dioramas and honestly my photography skills are crap so I'm also excited try to improve them! I'm mostly interested in Tinies(YoSD and smaller) but I have been thinking about getting a few MSD boys too...Not sure yet, we shall see I want to say that the passion I see on this forum and other BJD spaces that people have for this hobby is 100% infectious and one of the reasons (other than the beauty of the dolls lol) is what kept me coming back to read up on what's been going on in the BJD world So thank you all, nice to finally meet you :P
Hello from New York! There’s plenty of room for more voices in this hobby! I hope you will add yours to our convos here on DoA I also tend to be very shy. I had to push myself to join in as well, but once you do it’s so much fun! (And now I can’t shut up ) How exciting that you got one of the dolls you admired from afar so long ago! That’s such sweet memories with your sister. I think we can all relate to being a kid dreaming of that expensive, elusive item that is just oh so cool. What makes this hobby even more fun is the variety of hobbies you can do in tandem. There’s something for everyone whether you like crafting miniatures, sewing, photography, or even creative writing! And we all start somewhere. The more you have fun with faceups and photography the more you’ll like your work! I’m sorry about your bunny! I’m sure you two had many adorable memories together. My username is also tied to my beloved pet. His name was Lucky, but his nickname was Lully like lullaby. He was just a good kitty He passed from old age as well a few years ago.
Welcome from Florida! I sometimes have trouble with faceups too. My girlies need new faces, but it'll be a while.
Hello and welcome! I also have a doll who's faceup i did and I absolutely hated how it came out, lmao. Im saving up to get it done by someone else! Upload pictures of your girls faceup when youre done! Good luck!
Hello hello Lully! Thank you very much for the warm welcome and encouragement! I hope in time, like you, once I come out of my shell I won't shut up hahaha That is the goal Indeed it's a hobby where you can dabble in a lot of different aspects of it and I'm excited to see what I can come up with. You are very right that the amount of fun translates very well into enjoyment of the creations, I do have to say I'm a bit hesitant to post anything as I worry it looks sooooo noobish... But we all start somewhere, eh? I'm sorry about your cat and what a sweet story about his nickname I find it very nice we both chose to immortalize our furbabies in the same way and thank you for your kind words
Hello and thank you! I can reallllyyy relate... but I also kept it on her for ages thinking "a faceup is better than no faceup" XD I hope my next try(or the one after..or the next one...or the next one..lol) will turn out acceptable! Thanks for the encouragement and good luck saving for someone else to do it! Do you have an artist in mind already?
LMAO. Even if it takes multiple tries you got it! Im still looking at different artists since im looking for a specific style!
Hahaha yes practice makes perfect, eh? Ohh fair, good luck with the search! I hope whoever does the faceup will do it exactly how you imagined
Yes I understand! I was, I guess you could say embarrassed? To show my first faceup work publicly. Even with practicing on Monster High/Ever After High dolls first, my first faceup on resin was ehhhhh questionable lol Once you learn your tools and canvas it becomes much easier. Same as any art or craft, I suppose. Painting or drawing on a 3D surface is learning curve that’s for sure! What’s nice though is that if you want specific advice about technique or materials we on DoA are always happy to help! And even if you don’t post your first works now, I say still take the pics for yourself! Maybe in a year or two, you’ll want to see how your style has changed.
Thank you for the advice! Yes, I have also customized fashion dolls before but indeed resin is something else... I love the idea of documenting my progress! Even if I don't want to share it now...maybe in the future it's fun to compare it and see the progress
