Anyone here using lo fi film camera or plastic lenses on their digital cameras for a lo fi effect? I've seen some Blythe photos taken this way and the results were really fun. Getting focused on the subject is going to be a challenge, since dolls are small... Please share if you have examples!
Not too familiar with the Lensbaby, but you can get some pretty fun tilt shift effects with it can't you?? That would be awesome for group shots
I have a cute little Diana lomo camera. The main trick with the thing is to play around with it until you're sure you're familiar with the amount of sheer light it needs to work properly. It is not a low light camera. Outdoors pics are best, so you can take advantage of the natural fill of real daylight.
Not any Loma or Holga... But a pinhole photo. Pinhole photography have fascinated me since I was a child (very long time ago), so I just had to try it out with my Canon system camera. I wanted to make a scary picture of my little demon (Tsuk - Soom Glot) waking somebody up in the middle of the night... Perhaps not perfect but the effect that I wanted, the zero too eternity focal length, is there, that the picture is slightly blurred is probably due to the the hole not being optimized.
I've got a couple of lomo cameras but given the cost of film and development I haven't really had chance to do much in the way of doll photos with them but it's definitely something I want to do, especially playing around with expired film. Digital wise, while it's more phoneography (or whatever they're calling it x_x ) I personally really love hipstamatic because it has more of a realistic lomo vibe than a lot of other apps since you choose the film and lens and what you get is what you get, you can't tweak it and play around with it afterwards but you can get loads of different film and lens packs to play with and mix up. It's good fun and I've used that for doll photos in the past. It lets you set your resolution too (well, it gives you the choice of low, medium or high res) so you can pretty much get 12x12 prints out of it that look great if you're using a phone with a semi decent camera. I've got a couple of examples of photos I've taken with it:
I have a Holga, but I don't use it for doll photography. You can't focus a Holga camera very exactly and I don't have the macro lens attachment, so all my doll pictures with it have turned out blurry. I haven't really worked with the Holga as much as I probably should. I might try to get the macro lens and try it again. Here's a scan of a print I made from one of the negatives: Rigel.1 by ケンジー, on Flickr
