Hi, so I've recently started to get back into (well actually into) Lolita fashion, and was thinking it would be cute to make some matching outfits of what I make for myself (85% handmade stuff, 15% bought/Brand stuff) to my Minifee. I found some prints that come in multiple scales so it would be possible with those. I was wondering if there were any other lolitas hanging around as well as how you may twin with your dolls? If this doesn't go here, let me know
There's quite a few lolitas collecting dolls actually. I would also loooove to twin with a doll someday but I haven't actually done so yet. Maybe I'll start with coordinated outfits before actual twinning though .
i need to take some new pics, as these are quite old and i don't wear chocolate prints anymore. but here's a few AP inspired pieces i've made for my dolls to match my wardrobe i'm planning to make a SD sized version of brilliant color misty sky jsk soon!
I've been really wanting to do this! I only have one lolita dress, but if I ever find someone to commission for a doll sized version I'll defo be doing it! It's such a cute idea
I'd love to this!! I love the lolita style its so pretty, ive never tried this style on myself but my dolls have! i think it would be soo cute!!!!!
These are awesome! Did you have some sort of fabric printer to get the print scaled down? I'd love to do something similar since all the brand dresses that are doll sized are from Baby The Stars Shine Bright and most of my female bjds are MSDs rather than SDs. Such great work. There's a facebook group as well for this, BJD X Lolita, it's not very active but some people with some great matching coords. I've matched a bit with my Azone while in lolita but so many of my BJDs are guys I haven't done a full matching coord yet but I'd love to if I could get a hold of one of the BTSSB SD dresses.
thank you so much! i used GIMP to make scaled-down versions of the prints, then ordered them as quilter quarters from spoonflower. (i kept the uploads private btw. since it's not my art, i'm not comfortable using them for anything other than personal use!) there is at least one MSD sized official BtSSB collab, it's the akazukin coat OP from the huis ten bosch (sp?) toppi! i have that one too, but i can't post a twin pic because don't have the human sized one. i'm pretty sure i saw someone selling that set here in the marketplace recently!
@Mr Bitterness those are so unbelievably cute! It feels sad to call myself an ex-lolita, as I still have my clothes, (and have finally resumed my pre-babies sizing so I COULD wear it again) but I live in such a tiny rural town now, with neighbours who probably already think I'm a bit 'off', (and I'm still breastfeeding) so I don't have much inspiration to wear it. If not outright twinning, I totally love the idea of making some doll dresses to coordinate with some of my favorite prints and colour palettes. I have two female dolls, and when my project backlog clears I would like to make gothic looks for one and sweet for the other. That's my heart and my wardrobe split right down the middle right there, lol. I have seen some really cute fabric prints on Aliexpress that look like the right style and scale, but I hesitate not having any idea where they came from.
@Mr Bitterness Spoonflower is awesome for smaller prints and custom orders! Not Lolita, but I'm planning on twining with my fid, making her matching historical (Victorian-Edwardian) garments from the offcuts of my own fits. I dont wear prints, I prefer solids and textures so it's a little easier.
I recently spotted a Lolita outfit that I used to wear back before I had kids. I don't own it anymore but I'm going to buy the match for my doll. I'm feeling nostalgic
Can I ask where you found the files for the print art? Is there a particular website or keyword to search for? I've been looking on lolibrary, but it seems that it's mostly AP and BTSSB pages that have the high quality pictures of prints. The Moitie prints are often cut off, sadly. I totally understand if you're not comfortable sharing it, though! I just thought I'd ask.
Do keep in mind that reprints in lolita fashion are the recasts of that hobby, so it is in very poor taste. I know laws vary from place to place and it's possible it's not illegal to take someone elses design and reprint it for personal use where you live, but it's still important to remember that you are taking something that does not belong to you. And if you show it off on line it's actually not private use anymore, it's public display.
I just heavily edited the low res official AP images, you'd have to find and edit them yourself. And if you do end up doing that, please do be careful with how you use the images! If you use Spoonflower, be sure to set it to a private upload so that you're not selling prints of someone else's work. This is at the very least, a moral/ethical grey area. Best to err on the side of grey area than doing something unequivocally wrong like profiting off of it It's a difference of like printing someone else's photo and sticking it to the wall in your house, vs displaying it in a gallery as your own work.
There's more than one Volks x BTSSB colab, and I want them all! But they're so hard and expensive to find secondhand, or they only come with the Volks doll included... I have the red riding hood OP, so I really want to find that set in doll scale. I second what Mr. Bitterness said, do it as a private upload for personal, non commercial use only.
I've been into lolita for quite a while but only just got into bjd as in i still haven't received my doll yet. Twinning with a doll would be so fun, although i will not do it with the doll i ordered, maybe with a pulip in the future. It seems like the way to go is to just make your own dress, which is probably the route i will take which should be easy because the stuff i wear is very basic. I'd imagine with sweet lolita it would be a bit tricky because of how print orientated it is.
Hoshibako recently released a doll version of one of their human-sized dresses, Lilian's Sister: リリアンヌ姉妹 ドールワンピース | hoshibako powered by BASE It seems like it would probably fit MSD!
I do not wear lolita myself I don't think it will looks good on me, but my dolls wear it. I have two shirts of a japanese street wear brand and I made a tiny version for my dolls, but I will redo it.
Oh that's smart, thank you!! Since many different sized dolls fit into 1/4 and 1/3 respectively (like 1/3 dolls being anywhere between 55-75cm) and each fit furniture made for "1/4" or "1/3" differently well, I've started to forget that normally one can just divide human size by four or three XD
I hope it's okay to reply to this thread after so much time has passed, but thank you for the info on how to go about getting fabric this way! I would like to twin with my doll when she arrives and finding a way to get the fabric just for my personal use is super helpful!
oooh i have quite a few lolita dresses but only one dress for my doll from Volks, i wish i knew how to sew so i could twin with him...maybe someday. i think its a cute thing though, maybe someday ill do it even if we dont 100% match
I would love to have a few dresses that match with my dolls. I want AP's Holy Lantern in doll size. But with the flocking on the dress I have no idea were to start with something that size. Its one of my dream dresses so I am very happy to own it. I think non-print dresses would be easy to do twinning though.
There are a lot of premade doll-scale recreations of old school stuff especially, like this one for example. IIRC this was by K2 Workshop? Bought years ago from Mint On Card before it closed, rest in peace, it came in yellow, blue, and pink. I also own the blue version so dolls twinning is pretty easy for me, but if you were to do some taobao/Bodyline hunting for human pieces similar to what's available on Alice's Collections as a starting point, for instance, you could probably get pretty close! Round 125 Scraps: Starshine's petticoat! by Jules B, on Flickr The quintessential A-line old school OP, on my Obitsu Gretel. I'm not super active in the community atm but if old school is still seeing a revival then now's a perfect time to try it out!
omg I've never even thought to twin with my dolls! I'm into Lolita as well and dress my dolls up in it sometimes but now I'm inspired to make the some matching coords. I have some more basic body line dresses that won't be hard to recreate I think Does anyone know if there's a place where you can buy human sized and doll sized matching dresses? I'm not super experienced in sewing and just curious if there's ones available to buy
I would love to twin with my dolls! This feeling gets stronger with every BTSSB X Volks collab I see I wish that the Usakumya plush outfits fit on BJDS haha
