I used to collect the littles and stopped mainly due to quality, so I didn't even look at the OMG dolls. Recently though, I saw one and realized they are not the quality of the littles at all and I LOVE them! I kind of went nuts buying up the ones I could find that I really like. I have 11 with 6 more on the way. I don't see any stopping with these in my future unless they stop making them. Anyone else love these dolls?
Hi! I have three myself. I actually go back and forth on them. I cannot stand their knee joints and that their legs cannot open wide, but I love that they can do splits. My favorite part about them is the hair designs, so neat! I also like the black light effect most of them have. I also like their hourglass body shape. I heard a line of "tweens" (called btw) will be coming out soon, curious what those will look like. I personally like the failfix dolls more but enjoy my OMGs all the same.
I have a fair few heh. I enjoy them. The detailed outfits and varied makeup and hairstyles make me happy. So many modern playline dolls tend toward fairly simple outfits and the standard "center parted straight unstyled hair" thing which I find really boring. the OMGs all have different hair styles and some have really unique makeup and they're colourful and all those layers of outfit make them far more interesting to look at. My only gripe is that they're expensive and they keep releasing new ones too quickly. It's a bit exhausting. Now that said, i'm waiting for the dance ones to come down in price as well as spicy and i'm looking forward to the dawn/dusk pair.
I am not keen on the legs that have the snap joints either, but I love the aesthetic of the legs. The outfits, make up and hair have me sold though! I miss the days of getting good quality outfits on a playline dolls. Now we just seem to get flimsy fabric that is printed on. I also used to collect POP! so the big eyes also suck me right in haha I am looking forward to the Monster High dolls coming back, but afraid that we won't get the type of quality we got with them originally. I have 3 Fail Fix dolls and they are ok, but am loving the OMG girls (I would guy too, as I do have Rocker Boi, but he is not a favorite at all. I got the set as a present yesterday for my birthday, and I love Punk Grrrl, but just meh about him)
I love the clothes and body shape but really dislike their faces. I have several though that I've customized with bratz heads. Bratz look amazing on omg bodies. I also do plan to make a few customs with the lol heads though, I'm working on powerpuff girls, and I want to do bettyboop
It is great when you can swap and customize how you want! I would love to see those when you are done with them!
I have 5 at the moment, with 3 more on my wish list. I really love the quality and detailing for the price point. BJD stuff takes FOREVER, so it's nice to have cheaper dolls I can order on amazon like RH and OMG that come quickly and don't break the bank. I didn't think I would like them cause of their faces but I got Big Wig and fell in love!
Leaks of the tweens are already up online. They look kinda weird, I don't think I'll be collecting any. But that's mostly because I like curvy and more "adult" looking dolls and am not a fan of child like bodies.
What did you think of the Dawn and Dusk/Sunshine Gurl and Moonlight BB? I found them underwhelming in comparison to Spicy Babe and Sweets, both of which I own and adore.
I bought second hand a few LOL wigs, thinking they might fit pukipuki. I didn't realize there was a band of silicone around the inside edge. They are nice wigs as far as styles. If anyone wants them, I'll mail. I think I have 4
I quite like them. Though they are nothing on Spicy's look. That said, Spicy's plether outfit concerns me as I know from experience that stuff does NOT stand the test of time and after a few years I worry it'll start to peel and flake like my old Bratz clothing. which makes me reluctant to get her.
This week several dolls got hair washing. My poor Big Wig's hair got mangled, and wow is her hair LONG! I hated to take it down, but there were so many pulls in the style from being strapped in the box That got me started on washing some of the other dolls hair that I wasn't fond of, and I have to say I am happier with those dolls overall looks now.
I have 5 - I'm probably going to get rid of three of them. I'm not a fan of any of the others (tweens, littles). The clothes are gorgeous. However, I think they're deceptively fragile. They look beautiful but will fall apart with any amount of handling. The accessories are amazing, and I love that MGA made the packaging into a play item. I'm just not into the faces, and as others have said, I hate bend and snap legs. I have seen some adorable face repaints (and some really bad ones - oof). But ultimately, I don't like the heads in proportion to the bodies, and the bodies aren't articulated enough to be worth keeping for me. I don't know. I keep going back and forth on them. Maybe I'll try to repaint one.
Now I have all of them except for Crystal at this point. I went hog wild! I feel like I am in the minority in that I love the non articulated legs for asthetic, and I had Blythe dolls and Pullips so the big heads don't bother me. I like that they are affordable and I can use some of the clothing on my Atelier Momoni girls. Dolls that can share wardrobes is something I love a LOT. I really missed being able to buy things in person, and hunt stores for dolls. I haven't been this excited about a doll line in a LONG time. The only issues I have had with the clothing are the glued on "buttons" on a few items but overall everything has held up with lots of redressing and clothes swapping.
I don't really like the super round-everything MGA seems to give all their dolls, like the RH girls, all have super round heads, super round eyes, super roundish-mouths. I also didn't want to collect these dolls, but I have gotten a few random Lol surprise ones. Some of my nieces collect them, and sometimes they ask for them incase I get new ones they don't alreay own, but I have to keep a few repeats, which I never really wanted but I am stuck with. My mother has a thing for super curly hair on dolls, so she got me Queen Bee for Christmas 2019, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't unbox her, because I don't normally unbox my toys, unless they are 1:6 action figures, customizable-dolls/kits or I gotten multiples. I did get Candylicious myself last year, because I had a lot of Amazon gift cards, and I really loved her aesthetically -- she came with all her little sister in the brown shipper from Mattel, so I didn't even get to see if there are any flaws on her (because I'm a weirdo, stereotypical MISB toy collector). I do collect a few Pullip and family dolls, but mostly I own the kits -- but their faces I do love, not their porportions. I'm not really into the big headed dolls, unless I really love the faces. I like the faces on these girls, they remind me of cats (due to the super dilated pupils and super round eyes), but I don't like the heads being as big as they are and I'm not a fan of all the extra stuff I wouldn't know what to do with, if I didn't keep them inbox. I don't believe I'll be getting more.
The two I adore and am definitely keeping are Kitty K (the one with the long pink hair) and... Da Boss? I think? She's in leopard print. Her hair is so soft. I love touching it. I bought the Remix set of 4. I mean - the four little instruments will play a song at the same time. It's ingenious. And the box was a giant boombox straight out of the 80s. I have mad respect for the designers.
I like them but I won't buy anymore until I find shadow in box for under 100. Shadow and Swag are by and far their best characters and I don't have either. Edit, Snowlicous is another favorite I don't have.
You might want to stalk Amazon Warehouse - assuming perfect boxes aren’t a high priority for you. I’ve gotten several OMG dolls for $17 and under that way.
It’s basically their returns. I have been shocked by the items people returned because the exterior box was damaged - and I’m not just referring to dolls. Appliances. Sheets. Stuff you would never keep the packaging for anyway. But they get a damaged box, and back to Amazon it goes.
I just got Shadow from the official website, I got her in the family pack for $89.99. I figured I could sell all the LOL's she comes with to recoup some of the money spent at some point, so that is another option. Also Target has the first 4 in box for $99, so if you just want Swag you can sell the other 3. It is a long box and inside it has all 4 dolls in their own boxes in it, that is how I got mine.
I love the detail in the hairstyles and outfits. So much value & variety for your buck!! The only problem is the faces are really limited. Ive started repainting them (i only paint over the face with acrylic in case i want to go back to default) I think giving rocker boi half closed eyes is what made me fully fall in love w him!!
I absolutely love these girls. “Same face” with dolls doesn’t bother me at all when the rest of the dolls are so wildly different from each other. Love the fashions. Love the hairstyles. Love the themes. And love the POC representation.
I agree with all of that! I feel that even though they have the same face they all look different enough where I can appreciate each one individually. I have all of them that have come out so far at this point and now can keep up as they come out. I plan to buy all the BTW that are coming out as well. Or I should say the ones I have seen because I like all 4 of them. It is nice to be excited about a play doll line again, I cannot express that enough!
I am starting to see some amazing repainted versions of these dolls that inspired me to keep a few I was thinking of getting rid of. And I'm such a sucker for those molded little toes. Anyone tried painting their toenails, by the way?
The "same face" doesn't really bother me either. I really love the clothing and accessories designs on these dolls, they're so cute! All of their styles seem super original to me. I'm the current proud owner of a 24K DJ and a Sweets! They're both super adorable. Also, DJ has the softest hair I've ever found on a doll, I swear I spent several minutes gently playing with it after unboxing her!
I’ve bought a lot of these recently, and now I’m just missing five of the LOL OMG dolls that have been released so far. I need Big Wig, Cosmic Nova, Shadow, and the two collector’s dolls. I’m kicking myself because I saw a bazillion Cosmic Nova’s on the shelf when I started collecting last summer, but I wasn’t a completionist at the time, so I passed over her.
Oh no, I think I’ve fallen for more of them. Moonlight, Sunshine, and the Movie Magic dolls all look so amazing. This isn’t good!
I'm loving the tweens. Going to wait until they go on sale (after all collectors and kids got theirs first).
Trying to decide if I want to order the two new sports girls from Amazon, or if I should wait awhile. I swear MGA has taken so much of my money this past year!
