Aesthetics Little Monica Gloomy Enrill Face Up

Mar 18, 2014

    1. So after a long wait, my Gloomy Enrill has made it home!! I was patiently awaiting the weekend so I could get started on his face up.

Gloomy Enrill is going to be one of my Seven Sins Demons (gluttony). The poor guy still has no name, but I am hoping that while I work on him, it will come to me...

He is a great base!!! The ears are just fabulous! I am also a big fan of heavy eyelids.

Initially, I wanted to to go with a very minimal look to his face up. So I started out with very light blushing:

But I sort of kept going with the blushing...

I am still terrible when it comes to the eyebrows, so I always dread doing them. I am just asking to destroy the face up I just completed when I go to put them on. But this time, I was pretty happy with the brows.

I am not sure if I am happy with his face up since it really did not go in the direction I had initially set out to do...I may add a little more under the eyes, I am just not sure.

Please please please, if anyone can give me tips on the eyebrow, I would greatly appreciate it! Also, If I could gain tips on how not to make the pastels and pencils look chalky - that would be the BEST!!
I use pretty high end products for the face up, so it is definable me doing something wrong.

    2. About pastels and pencils - are you using watercolor pencils? It's very hard to avoid graininess with pencils (which is why I prefer to use acrylics), but to reduce the texture it's best to sharpen the pencil to a really fine point! That way you can get nice, fine lines and reduce chalkiness. As for pastels, the best way to go is to use LOTS of layers. Don't put on too much pastel at a time, make sure you brush off excess with a large brush, and you should be fine.

I think the eyebrow shape looks perfectly fine? You may want to add a touch of color (pastel or pencil) because it's rather hard to see. Other than that, he looks absolutely fantastic! Good luck!

    3. I love the blueish-gray shadow on his upper lid. You said it didn't turn out how you wanted, what was your inspiration or idea?

    4. I'd suggest outlining the eyebrow a little darker with pastel. I find that it is so much easier to do the hairs once you have a very definitive eyebrow shape! Like others have said, painting hairs with acrylics will give you smoother results, but fine brushes are harder to control, so if you are using watercolor pencils, make sure you have a very high quality brand that puts out high pigmentation and make the hairs with a sharp, damp point in one sweeping motion. This should help eliminate graininess.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

    5. I am in love with the face up progress .. I think you are going amazing <3 ..
Can't wait to see how he will end ! =)

    6. I think this is coming along really beautifully, but I agree that it may not look quite finished! Part of it for me is that the eyebrows are hard to see, like peppercrushes said. It looks like you made nice and confident lines for the eyelashes and lips so I know you don't have to worry about eyebrows :)
