OT/General List of casting companies?

Jan 8, 2013

    1. Bump for Canary's question and also some Weiju pricing info for y'all: they are casting my 14cm doll, and the initial fee breakdown is the mold/resin master fee is $380, and each sample doll is $100, which is a little less than double the amount each doll will cost individually afterwards. Plus shipping from China. I didn't ask for any modifications.

      Dollshe never replied to me, and anyhow after reading about their standards for the doll's insides from silk, I wasn't really up to modifying my doll AGAIN after putting her back together from her Robust Casting misadventure. Weiju is pricey, but for me at the time it was about convenience. The whole RC casting thing burnt me out pretty bad.

    2. Salior, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with Robust Casting. When DollShe said they couldn't mold my old doll the way it was (the insides where perfect since it was 3D printed, but I can see how it would be too complicated to mold) it was pretty devastating. I almost wish I spent the money to let them modify it, but they seemed like they didn't want to do that. It was at a pretty crappy and busy time of my life and I was looking forward to it so much that the let down really burnt me out, so I understand. I was too scared to try again since at the time I couldn't handle a similar disappointment. I regret not bouncing back and finishing that doll. I hope things are going much better for you with Weiju!

    3. firefly i don't know about now but i believe dollshe had a policy against 3D printed dolls

    4. When I talked to them they were fine with it. I forget what they said since it was a few years ago, but they were pretty nice about it all. I think they were concerned with people 3D scanning dolls to modify them slightly then reprint, so they were fine if you could show them it was original. Though that whole thing is pretty silly since I think it would be just as much work and even more expensive than just recasting. The main problem was some parts where too thin, which I agree that they were.

    5. Can I ask how many dolls you ordered? Dolls in the 14cm range are exactly what I'm wishing to start with, I don't mind sculpting in that size but haven't exactly attempted a ball jointed (hollow) doll before either. Just doing all my research now! I'm terrified to attempt making a silicone mold and casting even just a master doll. It's so costly and no matter how many photos I see online I'm too afraid to try.

      Also, I've always known about MUdoll's casting service, has anyone tried them?

    6. I haven't placed my full order yet, just got the 2 samples. The dolls for the order will cost less than the sample dolls, though.

    7. firefly oh i see that makes a lot more seance! when i red it they had no explanation to that policy but that was quite some time ago (when the service first started being offered)

      DanceCat i would suggest starting in whatever size feels right, go with the head first it will help you decide how big the body should be ^^

    8. Does anyone happen to know weiju's email address? I seem to have lost it and id still love to work with them one day.

    9. Does anyone have any experience with Haru Resin Casting Service? http://blog.naver.com/haru_resin
      They have ads on DoA... I like their color selection (I really want lilac color resin) and they do work for other bjd companies. I thinking of finishing my doll and maybe going with them.

    10. armeleia on Tumblr has been documenting her experiences with them, you might want to check that out! I'll probably go with them too for my next doll.

    11. I had an excellent time with Haru and I recommend them.

    12. Has anyone had experience with Amy from maysuntoys.net?

    13. Dunno if anyone brought this up before but, Weiju is Island Doll.

    14. Just want to add to the feedback on HaruCasting. I received my order from them today. Communication with them was smooth and clear, no translation trouble. Also regular updates through their flickr. I definitly recommend them : )

    15. I have loved following your progress photos from Haru Casting! They are unbelievably quick! Did they return the master head back to you?

    16. Yes, I think it took them 20 days in total? And that is counting the weekends and the korean holidays. They have returned the master back to me in near-perfect condition (only a little damage/roughness at the places where they cut off the plastic(?) they used to make the pouring gates)

    17. I am loving the Haru feedback! I never considered pro-casting until now. Haru's photo updates and low minimums are seducing me.

    18. Are you happy with the quality of resin from Haru? And they send you the dolls unassembled, don't they? And, do you have to prepare the dolls in any way for casting? (Some companies ask for the insides to be smooth and such like)
      Thank you! so many questions... >.<;;;

    19. Haru now provides stringing and magnets for an extra charge per doll. I sent them an email about the preparations for casting today and they will do the modifications if any are needed but for an added fee determined by how many parts and what the modification is. Feel free to email them with questions they reply right away and are very helpful! I believe you can even get resin color samples from them now if you ask. As far as I know you want to have your doll primed and they like to have their interiors filled in for the torso part (but don't quote me on that part)

    20. Hi guys! ^ ^

      I wanted to ask if anyone, who used Haru Casting services, know if their resin color matches other companies resin?
      This would be helpful for those, who cast only head (to match a proper body for it).
      I have a lot of information about F-doll Pale Normal color matching other companies, but none for Haru ; _ ;
