Wigs Link's hair is proving difficult

Jun 6, 2024

    1. Hi y'all! So I'm trying to put together a botw/totk Link msd and I've run into an issue--his annoying anime hair. I found the right shade in wefts at a human salon supply store (27 fyi), but it was so stiff, it looks like he put the master sword in an electric outlet. I was thinking of maybe using this wig as a base: WS-002 (Sugar Caramel)
But idk if I'll run into the same stiffness issue or if it even has enough fluff for those bangs. Has anyone used this company before? Thanks

    2. I would personally go for a lighter, fluffier material. Mulberry silk, acrylic wefts, ramie, soy etc would all be more suitable to create Link's hair than a typical synthetic or human. Because of his inhuman amount of hair placed at the front to achieve the bangs, it would be easier to make yourself. Most wigs aren't going to have the right distribution of fibre.

    3. I've only used pre-wefted hair and faux fur to make wigs before so idk what half of those are. I just know some doll wigs are super soft like Dolly Planet or idk Monique? I used to have an old Monique wig that was super soft.

    4. They're different types of fibers, if you google 'making BJD wigs' there's lots of tutorials that explain the process and different fiber choices. Most use mohair or alpaca. Personally banana fibre is my favourite. They all have different properties, benefits and drawbacks. Viscose is quite cheap and good for a beginner, too. The main thing is the individual strands are thinner than a typical synthetic weft so you can achieve a more in-scale volumous look. Monique did use a nice thin synthetic yes, no idea where they sourced it. Unfortunately they closed down

    5. If you want to use synthetic wefts, I highly recommend just buying shorter ones! They are usually tapered at the end so if you buy something that's really long, it'll usually look stiff and chunky when cut shorter. You can buy pre-made wefts that are 5 or 10 cm long, it's much easier to go from there.

    6. I find easier to style anime-style wigs that are made with synthetic materials o mohair. Using hair fixing products can also help to get those rebel wefts. Make sure those don't touch your doll's resin as they can stain.
Also, if you can find cosplayers tutorials for wigs you can have a look on the different techniques (just apply them on mini scale).

    7. Seconding not to use mohair or alpaca, not to say it isn't possible but they're not great for more rigid styles like this and tend to have minds of their own :-D not all natural fibres are like this though, soy, banana, ramie are better at keeping shape but would need product applying to keep it that way! I made a wig not a million miles away from Link's with banana and that works fine.

    8. I guess I was just hoping for a wig I could just trim and heat set into his 'do and not fuss with making a wig. Idk where to even buy these materials
