Shopping LegendDoll faceup?

Oct 21, 2024

    1. I contacted Legenddoll about a version of a faceup that wasn’t listed among the purchase options. They responded that it was no longer available and also, “I just added the face up A not official option. We will send you the photo of the face up before the artist does the last step.

I didn’t know that Legenddoll also offered a faceup service, so I’d like to know if anyone has already purchased their faceup? Is it good? Is it really similar to the company’s original faceup? I would be very grateful if someone could also share photos.

    2. So i dont know for sure if the AE face up on a doll i had was done by AE or by Legend Doll as i had ordered 1 full doll and ended up going back to other another 2 additional heads (1 blank, 1 with a face up just like the first) and even though the face up was similar to the promo pics, i wonder and have a theory that they may just do them themselves potentially or has people on staff in case the company doesnt offer face ups.

if in fact the ones i got were done by them, they were done well, but the reason i wonder if they did it is because they werent matching. for example, im sure if i ordered a face up via Fairyland, Luts, etc that i have and expected them to be the same. these were not the same in terms of telling them apart or not. Overall good quality (but of course this is speculation as i never inquired why they were different from different orders)

    3. I have a doll currently shipping that has an anime faceup done by a Doll Legend faceup artist. I didn't know it wasn't a company faceup when I ordered so glad DL is clarifying when it's non-offical. I was shown a photo of the faceup towards the end and it looked close to the original but the lighting in the photo was a bit poor so can't say for certain. Hopefully the doll will arrive this week so will be able to see what it's like in person.

One thing to be aware of is that I think it added about an extra 3 months to the wait (I ordered the doll end of November last year with 8 month estimate, was shown the photo beginning September this year and the doll shipped on the 16th October). I've noticed on other listings where you can order a non-offical faceup it does say to allow 3 months for the faceup.
When I've sent heads out to faceup artists it's ended up taking 3-4 months as well so don't think the wait is that much different. It ends up being much cheaper as I don't have to pay for postage + return postage + customs if I were to send the head out. I'm not fussed about who does the face up as long as it's close to the promo photos so it's a potentially convenient service if the faceup artists do a good job.

In a funny twist of fate I'm currently eyeballing an instock head that has the non-offical faceup option. I actually bought the full doll as I loved the faceup (and the company doesn't sell head separately normally) and the company sent the most hideously bad face up so I ended up selling the doll. If the non-offical faceup artist is good then it would be a way to get the head with the faceup I wanted as the company isn't able to reproduce it's own faceup. I would assume the artist is probably different from the anime style artist who did the doll i'm waiting on so would definitely be interested if anyone else has a DL faceup and what they think of it too!

    4. When they answered my email about the faceup, they immediately updated the doll’s page and added the “non+official faceup” option. They told they would send pictures too. I’m so tempted to order this specific doll just because of his faceup, but i’m kinda scared that the non-official faceup could end up not as I expected.
When you receive your doll, could you share some photos please? That would help me a lot.

If they were doing their own faceups on dolls without informing the customer beforehand that would be really messed up even if it ended up looking good. Hopefully this was not the case. If it’s not too much trouble, do you have any pictures of the doll you mentioned? I would like to see how the faceup looks, that would help me a lot.

    5. I have a May Doll Lemon Cat that I think has a Legend Doll faceup.

I say 'think' because May Doll didn't offer her with faceup but Legend Doll did. I'd thought maybe Legend Doll had a special arrangement with May Doll when I ordered. However, looking back at my emails asking about my order (as it took forever to be shipped, over 6 months, it was partly a delay on May Doll's part), I think it's probably a faceup by Legend Doll that's made to look like the official faceup...

When I asked about my order, they told me 'The doll is ready. We will ask the artist to make the face up.' Then they asked me to confirm what faceup I wanted. After that, it took around 3 weeks for the artist to complete the faceup. They did send me a photo of the faceup to make sure I was happy with it before sealing it.

Despite being possibly unofficial, the faceup is of high quality and looks just like the official one.

The only problem is that they didn't say it wasn't an official faceup when I ordered. I think they state now on their newer listings when the faceup isn't official but they didn't when I ordered.

I actually have one more order I'm waiting for. An artist head with faceup. Once again, I thought it was an official faceup but it's looking like it's going to be an unofficial one again...

I don't really mind since Legend Doll's faceups seem to be of high quality, but I'll probably ask whether or not the faceup is official before ordering from them again, because this artist head is taking forever as well.

The head is ready but it sounds like Legend Doll's faceup artist is backed up as I was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks for the faceup to be completed...

    6. Reading through this thread, it makes me wonder if the Asleep Eidolon dolls I ordered through them have official face-ups or not (but I don’t really mind either way because they both look good). One is Abyss, who when I ordered wasn’t available anymore on AE’s website anymore. The other sculpt is Yukimi and I asked if the face-up could be done similar to the artist face-up in promo pictures instead of the default face-up. I’d heard previously AE face-ups can vary pretty wildly, so I wasn’t expecting exact-exact faceups. However, they’re both very well done and close enough for my liking :whee:

Like others in this thread, I was sent pictures to confirm both face-ups, which is what makes me question my experience… (or Legend just makes sure to double-check AE’s work since, like I mentioned, they can be hit-or-miss :XD:)

    7. Here we go, here's my dolls face-up-
      [IMG]
It seems fine as a standard anime style face up and the eyelash details are very nicely done. It's pretty close to the original and about what I would expect if I sent the head out to an artist to get a face-up.

    8. And a follow up on another face-up. I originally bought the updated mini Agnes as I really like the face-up but was very unhappy with the company face-up I received. I noticed Doll legend had a mini Agnes head in stock with the option for a non-offical face-up. I did end up buying the head during the winter sale and opted for the non official face-up so see if they could get the face-up closer to the promo pictures. Here is the comparison-

I think the artist did a great job of matching the face-up and i'm very happy with it! Again, it did take a while for the face-up to be done (ordered in Dec, got the preview image in April and received the head in May) so be prepared for it to add extra waiting time. So far, I've been happy with the service and face-ups :thumbup

    9. oh my gosh, I can’t believe how much nicer the legend doll face-up looks— it’s so much closer to matching the promo :o that’s crazy!!
(Congrats by the way, she’s very beautiful! :D)

    10. I am thinking about ordering a doll through Legend Doll with an unofficial faceup from them, as well. A DollZone Echo.
I fell in love with the official faceups but passed on her when she was officially available since you could only get the faceup with the fullset and the fullset clothes and resin items didn't really speak to me.
So now seeing her being available as just the doll with a faceup option from them is tempting. And after seeing the comparioson pictures from @Epicari I think I might order her. Thank you for sharing those pictures.
